  • Great First Car!!! - 2000 Volkswagen Jetta

I bought this car for $3500 from a military family in August of 2009 at 98,000 miles. I have had no issues with the car since The previous owners took very good care of the car. As far as interior problems the only things that have gone for me are the clove compartment hinge and cupholder. Luckily I know a friend who has an extra cupholder, so that fixes that issue and the glove compartment isnt that big of a deal. I get about 32-40 mpgs depending how I drive. Also I take very good care of the engine and components and havent had any problems yet. Being at 102,000 miles I am considering getting the timing belt/water pump changed.

I love the car. No major complaints, just a few minor ones. The cupholder is terrible. Its flimsy and rattles all the time, whether its pushed in or extended. It does not expand to fit other sizes of cups. The transmission (auto.) is also a little screwy. Frequently, when slowing down for a stoplight, it will suddenly drop to 1st gear, propelling me forward. A minor annoyance, but sometimes I just dont like the way it shifts. However, the car rides very nicely, is quite comfortable; even though Im six feet tall, I still dont feel terribly cramped. There is not much room for average-sized humans in the back, though.

  • You have to love your jetta! - 2000 Volkswagen Jetta

I have destroyed 5 cars now. I really drive my cars hard. This jetta is by far the finest car ive driven. It kicks BMWs ass in everything but quality and gadgets. When i purchased the car the check engine light came on because of the mass air flow and turbo cutoff switch, dealer fixed everything under warranty. car was in dealer for 2 days. dealer explained to me how you have to use 91 octain fuel to protect the sensors and components. Since ive followed the fuel requirements i have been nothing but 100% impressed with this car. It hugs the road like a 60k+ sports car and the 150hp 1.8L turbo acts like a compariable 3.0 v6 without the low gas mileage

  • Great car, annoying problems - 2000 Volkswagen Jetta

Great driving experience, great handling (w/17" wheels). Fuel economy is great as well. There a are NUMEROUS small problems and quality details, and most dealers as well as VW do little to back them up. Anything plastic on the inside you can count on deteriorating, or breaking at some point. Not enough to make me sorry for owning, but VW and their dealers should do more in the way of good will for their customers. Despite being a great car, their sales numbers are sliding because of the issues, although they are small.

  • Awesome Car - 2000 Volkswagen Jetta

I loved my Jetta, handled wonderfully, quick acceleration up to third gear. Very comfortable, reliable. Never had a problem, except for cheap watered down gas. Fun to drive. Extremely sturdy. Only reason I dont have it anymore is that an F150 slammed into me. The car was able to get me home, but it was deemed a total loss due to bent frame.

  • Fun and unreliable - 2000 Volkswagen Jetta

The list of my problems began with electrical failure in dash lights. Replaced pigtail harness. Next, the infamous window dropping problem. All this with 9000 miles on it. Next at about 30,000 miles, new rear brakes and rotors. I was told that everytime I replace brake pads to be prepared to change the rotors..BS. 38,000 miles, new front pads and rotors. Not to mention the cost of scheduled service. My dealer quoted me $850 for my 40,000 scheduled maintenance. What a joke. Next the O2 sensor went and needed replacement. Went from VW enthusiast to the point where I will never buy another.

  • First VW for Me - 2000 Volkswagen Jetta

I just got the Jetta GLS 4D and am having a blast. I am, admittedly, coming off a minivan so I am an easy mark for some fun, but this car is giving me joy in driving again. I am a big guy (6 foot 230 pounds) but the drivers seat is very comfortable for me, with lots of excellent body support. The car handles very well, and is peppy enough to make me feel like Im driving again. Interior controls are great, and the dash lighting is spiffy. The trunk is bigger than it looks like it possibly coulod be, and the sunroof is very nice. Back seat is very tight. My wife and I are ready to just enjoy riding together again, and this perky red Jetta is just the ticket.

  • Dont Buy One!! - 2000 Volkswagen Jetta

My father sold us the vehicle because we needed a reliable car and this one has had no problems. Before he sold it to us he had the 40000 mile service performed. Since then we have had the car back in the shop 3 times for over $250 each time (o-ring in air conditioning, brake light, stabilizer bearing, brake light sensor) and now the master cylinder (brakes) is out and they want over $500! They act as if its my fault and, of course, nothing is covered by warranty. I will never purchase a VW again!!!
