  • Wouldnt buy another one. - 2000 Volkswagen Jetta

Check engine light came on three times since purchased due to burned out carbon sensor. The glove box hinges have broken twice. There is unknown goop oozing out of both door hinges. Like the look of the car, fun to drive, but their have been too many irritating problems since I purchased it in 2000. Would not recommend.

Had one non routine problem that was covered by warranty. Some repairs are a little more costly than other cars. Burns oil. Otherwise the car is great and I love drving it.

I love the interior & exterior design and thats the only good thing I can say about VW. I had so many problem w/ this car that Im planning to trade in. Here are some of the problems: (1) engine oil consumption (1qt/ every 1000miles) - dealer said it was normal but now VW has a special repair kit. (2) air flow meter failure (3) oxygen sensor failure (4) door lock actuator problem (5) rattle from interior (6) Catalytic converter failure.... And Im preparing myself for window regulator failure soon (it hasnt happened yet but my rear door window dropped few times). And most of all, bad treatment from dealership makes me to hate myself for buying VW.

I wish that I had done more investigating when buying my car. I bought my car with less that 5k miles on it, and in the 4 years Ive owned it, I have had the same problems as everyone else. I had to replace the Mass Air Flow sensor; the sensor in my driver side door failed, causing the car to always think it was open; the glove box drawer is broken; and now the driver and passenger power windows are dying. It took $1000 to figure out the MAF sensor, and I became a regular at the car shop. VW has yet to acknowledge any of these issues. I hope to sell it (be rid of it) before anything else dies. This is just a poor quality car.

I fell in love with the Jetta the first time a saw it and just had to have one. Big mistake!!! This is the worst car I have ever owned. I have had all the complaints that I have read about and then some. My bumper is hanging, the light on air conditioner control panel does not work, I have had my oxygen sensor replaced at lease 5 times, Im working on my second pair of rear breaks and my brake light has a short in it!!!! Again, dont be fooled.

  • YUCK!!!! - 2000 Volkswagen Jetta

Driving it out of the dealership was a very happy day...until the car started giving problems at about 26K miles. How convenient, right after the warranty expired. What problems? Window regulators (same window, twice within 5 months of 1st repair), back brakes, bad fuel tank, engine light turning on and off...Need I say more? Now the happiest day of my life will be the day I get rid of that pretty tin garbage can.

  • Disappointing for a VW--Caviat Emptor! - 2000 Volkswagen Jetta

Buyer Beware!I have a 2000 Jetta GL and Sadly,I must say that this will be my last!At 24K miles, the temperature gauge stopped working. When I asked the dealer about it,they said it would cost $90 bucks JUST to hook the car up to their "computer" to see WHY it was happenning! Also, around 20K miles, the cars suspension(they think)started making a loud "sqeaking/crunching" sound whenever I turned right,or took a corner while breaking. My rear breaks were shot at 22K, and after only normal driving. My check engine light and ABS light go on and off for no reason. The radio controls are inconveniently located too low to the floor.

  • The best and worst car you can buy - 2000 Volkswagen Jetta

My Jettas check engine light is always on, it stalls every once in a while, it eats oil and the dealer hasnt been able to pin point the problem. My car is a lemon. However, as weird as it sounds, I love everything about the car. If mine wasnt a lemon it would be the best car I have ever owned.

Run away from VW unless you want to pay BMW prices to repair a glorified Kia. The thing is always in the shop and you can only take it to over priced VW dealers which include poor service. For example $300 for a headlight. Buy anything else!
