I have had more problems with this car than I could have ever imagined. It was my dream car that turned into a nightmare of recalls and problems. From the engine that is constantly in need of repair, to the glove box that broke when I opened it, the catalytic converter that was recalled, but they wont fix until $1,000 of parts are replaced to make sure it is the converter that is the problem. If I was a mechanic, and someone gave me the car, I still would never get one again! You couldnt pay me enough!

Not tightening the gas cap enough, moisture in the air, wrong oil, wrong gas, when it feels like it light. Thats what I call it. You would have thought I would have learned from the first VW I bought, but oh no, I bought a second one. What a waste of money. A lot of money. 3rd time is not the charm in this case. I will never buy another VW, warranty or not.

  • What happen to German engineering??? - 2000 Volkswagen Jetta

I love the interior & exterior design and thats the only good thing I can say about VW. I had so many problem w/ this car that Im planning to trade in. Here are some of the problems: (1) engine oil consumption (1qt/ every 1000miles) - dealer said it was normal but now VW has a special repair kit. (2) air flow meter failure (3) oxygen sensor failure (4) door lock actuator problem (5) rattle from interior (6) Catalytic converter failure.... And Im preparing myself for window regulator failure soon (it hasnt happened yet but my rear door window dropped few times). And most of all, bad treatment from dealership makes me to hate myself for buying VW.

I fell in love with the Jetta the first time a saw it and just had to have one. Big mistake!!! This is the worst car I have ever owned. I have had all the complaints that I have read about and then some. My bumper is hanging, the light on air conditioner control panel does not work, I have had my oxygen sensor replaced at lease 5 times, Im working on my second pair of rear breaks and my brake light has a short in it!!!! Again, dont be fooled.

Run away from VW unless you want to pay BMW prices to repair a glorified Kia. The thing is always in the shop and you can only take it to over priced VW dealers which include poor service. For example $300 for a headlight. Buy anything else!

  • Poorly built - 2000 Volkswagen Jetta

This vehicle has tons of tech bulletins for costly repairs. Our problems in the first 25k miles include: **Bad Clear Coat, damaged first week of ownership - fixed after complaining to vw a few times. **Engine knock/tic that is reduced with an oil change every 2-3k miles. **Musty Smell coming from padding under carpet - told it is an $850 fix related to this poorly built car **Sway bar link came loose at 22k miles. **Rear brakes on this stick shift down to 10% after 18k miles. Front brakes are at full padding.

I have a love hate relationship with this car. Love the way it looks, hate the way it performs. Since day one, nothing but problems, currently working with vofa to try to get it fixed (cat convert anyone?). 10 y. O., just turned 60,000 miles because Im afraid to take it anywhere for fear I wont get there -- or back home. Cup holders, glove box hinge, arm rest: broken. Currently, bucking like a bronco. Do not buy VW.

2000 JETTA = Worst Car EVER! Problems since day one, it was a lemon. Within the first year i had to have the full TRANSMISSION replaced 2 times, the trunk replaced -would not shut, the two front windows replaced. After my warrantee ended the car fell apart even more: O2 sensors malfunctioning, Wheel Speed Sensors failing, etc. Most recently I took because my ABS/Traction lights flickered on, after 6 RETURN TRIPS TO THE DEALERSHIP in two months + $3,900 they ?fixed? my car. They had to replace the ENTIRE ABS BREAK SYSTEM, THE MASTER BREAK CYLINDER, 2 MORE WHEEL SPEED SENSORS, A Wheel ROD, and A BALL JOINT. The car rarily WORKED!

  • Major Disaster - 2000 Volkswagen Jetta

For those looking to purchase this car, take every problem listed seriously. I encountered every single problem listed in other reviews. My car has had a bad coolant sensor, a windsheild crack, bad coil pack, one of the pistons went out, problems with the brakes and brake light, a bad oxgyen sensor, the check engine light went on, the glove compartment broke, and the cupholders broke as well. VW customer service stniks and they dont even know how to fix their own cars. I am never buying a Jetta again!

I bought my Jetta from my sister and thought I was getting a great car, boy was I wrong! I should have known when she had to have the engine replaced when it was brand new! Since I have had it I have had pretty much every problem you read about: windows falling into the doors, the A/C broke twice (2 years in a row!), thermostat replaced, trunk latch is broken, too expensive to fix and the check engine light has been on for so long I forgot what it is like for it to not be on! What a piece of junk and to top it off every Volkswagon dealership I have dealt with has been a nightmare! I cant believe they can sleep at night knowing what terrible cars they sell! I will never buy VW again!
