This is my first VW and to be honest it will be my last. I have had no major problems with the car , however a number of minor issues. I think anyone who is looking to buy VW should look around before buying.

This is my first, and last, VW. Ive had it less than a year (bought at 24,000 miles) and have had the following problems: oxygen sensor, brake switch, engine light will not go off and the drivers side window mechanism had to be replaced.

  • NEVER ENDING - 2000 Volkswagen Jetta

I already posted a review, but I have to add to it. Above all the other problems, I had my transmission replaced 1 1/2 weeks ago. I had to take it in a second time, and now it has to go in a third time, becuase, VWs suck and their service department doesnt know what they are doing...

  • How did I get into this mess????? - 2000 Volkswagen Jetta

great to drive..disaster to own after warranty. (5th VW) 4 times for clutch/ sulpher smell/$600 starter at 25K Miles/ cheap plastic inside/out: front bumper pulled off TWICE/ O2 sensor (3 times)/ The best part is every time I bring it in for another ELECTRICAL repair, the dealer breaks someting else I have to fight about because they deny that anything is related to anything. I GIVE UP!!!!! Going for a volvo now.

It is my first car so my dad wanted to get me a used one. I was stupid to start with a volkswagon. I wanted a cute car so did not even think about reliability. The bumpers are cheaper than something at the 99 cent store. The plastic underlining catches on to anything and everything. I have had to replace the bumper once and recently cracked it again. But because I am getting a new car in a couple month, I just taped it. The brake makes a terrible sound every time I take my foot off the pedal. Fun ride but not worth it with the cheap build.

  • Dont Buy One!! - 2000 Volkswagen Jetta

My father sold us the vehicle because we needed a reliable car and this one has had no problems. Before he sold it to us he had the 40000 mile service performed. Since then we have had the car back in the shop 3 times for over $250 each time (o-ring in air conditioning, brake light, stabilizer bearing, brake light sensor) and now the master cylinder (brakes) is out and they want over $500! They act as if its my fault and, of course, nothing is covered by warranty. I will never purchase a VW again!!!

This car could have been great. Its engine is fantastic. However, I have had many random parts failures (catalytic converter after 50K miles, complete power steering replacement at only 70K) resulting in thousands of dollars of repair. Overall, could have been better quality for the premium price paid.

  • glad its gone - 2000 Volkswagen Jetta

I bought this car because it was fun to drive and great looking. There are also lots of safety features that come standard on this vehicle. I loved it until the nightmere began. rear breaks replaced at 30K miles-no warning. 6 different problems with the engine-all once the car was out of warranty. tons of goofy electrical problems-heated seats stopped working, lights on dash burnt out. I felt like i was always taking this car to the shop and spent tons of money maintaining it. I didnt even put many miles on it. If you are thinking about buying this car, PLEASE consider the time and money you will spend to maintain it.

  • Love VW but it is not Reliable - 2000 Volkswagen Jetta

This car was great until it hit 60,000 miles. The O2 sensor, vaccuum hose, turbo valve, strut mounts (poor design as they always break) all needed replacement and the check engine light is still on! We also replaced the window regulators but VW was nice enough to offer a good faith warranty. The locks dont always work on every door and the temp gauge works when it wants to. Overall this car is a headache but I love driving it when it works. The engine is awesome... too bad the quality of the car stinks and it is not reliable! I am not sure if I would buy a VW again.

  • A terrible buy - 2000 Volkswagen Jetta

I bought this car and within the first month I had to replace the mass airflow sensor, later I found out this was the fifth time it has been replaced. Body quality is poor, and engine lacks power. The car is now sitting broken after several thousand dollars of repairs. Do not buy this model Jetta. This was a BAD year.
