The Oil Consumption King - 2000 Volkswagen Jetta
By Sabre01 - December 15 - 2:00 amWe had our Jetta GL since May 2000. We babied this car. My wife loved this car. All maintenance was done on time. Then it starts to use oil. It used about 1 quart per 1000 miles! At first I thought it was a fluke. Then I checked the internet for other owners that may have the problem. This seems to be common with the 2.0 Litre engine. I even found a web site that has the Technical Bulletin (provided to dealers from VW)that instructs the mechanic how to deal with complaints of excessive oil consumption.

Fun to drive, but many problems/issues - 2000 Volkswagen Jetta
By BitBucket - October 2 - 10:00 amThe problems through 29k miles: - 3 oxygen sensors - front window regulator failed - horrible tires w/ no grip - car goes into Drive from Reverse VERY slowly - rear brake pads GONE (I verified this myself) after 25k miles - weak A/C, already re-charged once (less than 3 years) - industrys shortest door-to-door warranty (2 yrs? 24k miles???) - tranny - car didnt shift out of 2nd gear last winter, repair covered under warranty (thank goodness) Unfortunately, at least in my case, you really do get what you pay for. Theres a reason this isnt a $30K car, it behaves like a $16k car.

Outstanding Car - 2000 Volkswagen Jetta
By bhdfield - September 27 - 12:13 pmMy 2000 vr6 jetta was bought new, and now has 159k miles on it. Just replaced original front pads, rotors, and control arm bushings. I still have the original clutch. High quality components. There is no squeak, rattle, or false noise. The leather seats look like new, as does the clear coat, which I did not ruin by allowing ham fisted kids to scratch to oblivion. These are very well designed cars. There are a handful of weak components, with easy solutions. Coil packs crack after 70k miles. Solution: epoxy, and it will fix it and last forever. Some plastic parts in the cooling system will need to be replaced after 130-150k miles. Big deal, its a car with miles on it.

questioning my sanity - 2000 Volkswagen Jetta
By the me - August 12 - 10:00 amMy first new car.I drove a 74 Beetle for 15 years and wanted another VW.I had the car 6 weeks when the on board computer went Dealer fixed for free after 2 visits. The rear breaks had to be replaced after 35,000 miles(I paid for that). There have been 3 recalls and last week the passenger window failed to go down or up .It also goes through 1/2 quart of oil a week. The dash lights for the A/C have gone out, the trunk will not open using the drivers console in the door, the drivers door will not always unlock with the key or clicker.many problems for a new car.

Great First Car! - 2000 Volkswagen Jetta
By Juanito - July 21 - 11:12 amBought a used 2000 VW Jetta as my daughters first car...reliable, sporty, and still holds up in appearance and style with todays latest new car models. Very reliable and runs strong despite the 156Kmiles!! This car is built very well, all windows, sunroof, cup holders, visor clips, and other interior and exterior features still work and are made of high quality materials....

Great VW - 2000 Volkswagen Jetta
By Top Dollar - July 5 - 9:06 pmJust traded in my VW Jetta GLX VR-6 with 254,000 miles on it. I hated to get rid of it but I was getting bored with it. You ask why? Well for one, I was the original owner. With all those mile it kept its good looks, Leather seat were still beautiful, and engine still ran like new. I always hated one thing about the car and it was the 91 octane. Let me tell you this was the best VW I ever owned, but I had to stay on top of the maintenance! I miss here already!

Great car, annoying problems - 2000 Volkswagen Jetta
By Jim D in VB - April 18 - 3:00 pmGreat driving experience, great handling (w/17" wheels). Fuel economy is great as well. There a are NUMEROUS small problems and quality details, and most dealers as well as VW do little to back them up. Anything plastic on the inside you can count on deteriorating, or breaking at some point. Not enough to make me sorry for owning, but VW and their dealers should do more in the way of good will for their customers. Despite being a great car, their sales numbers are sliding because of the issues, although they are small.
