Eco-Turbo-Fun - 2000 Volkswagen Jetta
By turbopwr - September 2 - 10:00 am"one year pre-owned". Good mileage and a better price than new. The economy and fun-factor are very high! My two main concerns are the seat is too short- (seats could also use better lumbar and side bolster support), and the service cost. The service cost is TOO EXPENSIVE. I found a good german-auto mechanic to change the timing belt at 50,000 miles after two dealers told me it would be 500+ for the work. It still cost me 300+. The MAS just went bad at 75000. The part was 300+. Incredible!! If this keeps up, my savings on driving expenses will be quickly overcome by service costs. Overall, a good choice after one year of ownership.

Keeps Going, and Going, and Going... - 2000 Volkswagen Jetta
By outstanding car - August 27 - 3:30 pmMy Jetta has 143,000 miles and it is still in perfect condition. It is a 2.0 with a manual transmission. I have used it mostly for highway driving. I just replaced the water pump (and the thermostat) and timing belt (since it was already off), and recently replaced the catalytic converter. But prior to these repairs the only other repair that I had to make that was not covered by VW was the oxygen sensor and it was cheap ($130). I had all the recommended maintenance done on schedule (belts, plugs and wires, brakes, fluids, etc.) and it paid off! Ive spent only $850 in repairs. The rest is maintenance. I just gassed up and I got 35 mpg last tank. Treat your Jetta right and it will treat you right.

I love it!!! I hate it!!! - 2000 Volkswagen Jetta
By vw nut - August 10 - 2:53 pmI love the way it handles, the styling, the dash, all the kewl options. I love the way I can drop it into third gear and scream past the slower moving traffic. I love the bitchen blue dash lights and the heated seats, all those great options you normally find on only the higher end luxury sedans.
I hate how many times I have had to bring it to the shop for repair. The window cables have come undone, the little door for the gas orfice fell in the tank and the tank had to be replaced. The cup holders and arm rest, almost everything plastic inside the vehicle has broken. The temp gage has never worked and they cant seem to fix it. -

Check Engine Light - 2000 Volkswagen Jetta
By JLZ - August 5 - 9:53 amNot tightening the gas cap enough, moisture in the air, wrong oil, wrong gas, when it feels like it light. Thats what I call it. You would have thought I would have learned from the first VW I bought, but oh no, I bought a second one. What a waste of money. A lot of money. 3rd time is not the charm in this case. I will never buy another VW, warranty or not.

New Owner - 2000 Volkswagen Jetta
By Mike - July 25 - 10:13 pmWe have recently purchased a TDI. After long consideration we went for it. Lookslike a lot of work was done at the dealer. Hopefully we missed the worst. At 110km they did timing and waterpump as we insisted due to previous warnings and info. A lot of fun (5 speed). I am not sure of the mileage quality yet that everyone boasts about. I guess it all depends on the type of driving. We tend to have a heavy foot.

Love Hate Relationship - 2000 Volkswagen Jetta
By Jon - July 19 - 6:10 amAfter owning this car for five years, 2000-2005 and putting on 130,000 miles, I have to say i miss the car for its performance (modified of course), and the amenities for the price ie heated leather seats sunroof etc. I dont miss the car for its known problems, mass air flow sensor, window regulator clips, coil packs, etc. Overall i believe if i had kept the car stock i wouldnt have that many problems with it, but that wouldnt have been fun! Keep the car bone stock and it shouldnt give you as much problems, but good luck avoiding its known problems!

Great car - 2000 Volkswagen Jetta
By cptrguru - June 14 - 10:00 amIve been VERY pleased with my Jetta. Worst gas mileage to date is 42 mpg and have had as high as 53 on the highway. I filled up before I left in Kansas City and had a little over 1/4 tank left by the time I hit Dallas, doing 80+ the whole way. Diesel engine suggests changing the 100% synthetic oil ever 10,000 miles, which saves a few bucks. Ive put 32,500 miles on since I bought it and the only problem Ive had is the radios ground cable needing replaced (which the dealership did at no cost and provided a courtesy car). Interior is fantastic and standard features are far better than comparative cars for the price. Poor- mans BMW!

A terrible buy - 2000 Volkswagen Jetta
By Dan G - June 11 - 9:53 pmI bought this car and within the first month I had to replace the mass airflow sensor, later I found out this was the fifth time it has been replaced. Body quality is poor, and engine lacks power. The car is now sitting broken after several thousand dollars of repairs. Do not buy this model Jetta. This was a BAD year.

Big Mistake - 2000 Volkswagen Jetta
By XtremelyDisappointed - June 8 - 10:00 amWhen I first got my TDI, I loved it, raved about it. The mileage was great and the car looked sharp. Now its a different story. Ive sunk close to $2000 into it in the last 18 months. Everything from an engine temp sensor, to glow plug relay, to brakes. Not to mention the $100 oil changes. Ive even had the rear cup holder replaced. Now the temp gauge isnt working and the "check engine" light is on again. Im sure that will be another $300. I also found out this past weekend while it was in the shop, that one of the glow plugs is seized up and cant be removed. I will never buy a VW again.
