I had this car for only 3 months when I was struck from behind at 55 mph while sitting at a stoplight. If Id been in my previous Honda.. I wouldnt be here to write this. The Jetta held up like a rock. It was over $8,000.00 in repairs and I watched over everything like a hawk. Needless to say those countless hours of nitpicking the dealer have paid off... My car is as tight and clean as the day it was new. The car has been pretty much flawless, knock on the beautiful wood trim. Ive got 44,000 miles the only noise I hear is from my Pirellis that are in need of replacement.

This was a very reliable car. At 50,000 miles, there are absolutely no problems. It was a little short on power, and I wish it had tiptronic, but overall, it is a cheap, reliable car.

  • nice car - with a few flaws - 2000 Volkswagen Jetta

Ive had this car for 12000 miles, bought it with 30000 on the engine. I bought this car with 30000 miles on it and have put 12000 on it. My last oil change was 6000 miles ago and still hasnt burned oil. Still full on the dipstick. (I never torque the engine until its nice and warm, I dont know if that helps but it doesnt hurt.) Plenty of zing on the highway. Front window regulator quit so dealer replaced both front ones for good measure at no charge for either. Only complaints are electrical - Lower dash lights for heater controls quit working, and AM radio reception spotty.

My Jetta is smooth riding & has great pick me up. The trunk space is bigger than I expected and the stereo is awesome. The only downfall is gas mileage. Only about 18-20 miles per gallon. I have to fight my husband for the keys! He calls it "the sports car".

This car could have been great. Its engine is fantastic. However, I have had many random parts failures (catalytic converter after 50K miles, complete power steering replacement at only 70K) resulting in thousands of dollars of repair. Overall, could have been better quality for the premium price paid.

I bought this car because it was fun to drive and great looking. There are also lots of safety features that come standard on this vehicle. I loved it until the nightmere began. rear breaks replaced at 30K miles-no warning. 6 different problems with the engine-all once the car was out of warranty. tons of goofy electrical problems-heated seats stopped working, lights on dash burnt out. I felt like i was always taking this car to the shop and spent tons of money maintaining it. I didnt even put many miles on it. If you are thinking about buying this car, PLEASE consider the time and money you will spend to maintain it.

  • Love VW but it is not Reliable - 2000 Volkswagen Jetta

This car was great until it hit 60,000 miles. The O2 sensor, vaccuum hose, turbo valve, strut mounts (poor design as they always break) all needed replacement and the check engine light is still on! We also replaced the window regulators but VW was nice enough to offer a good faith warranty. The locks dont always work on every door and the temp gauge works when it wants to. Overall this car is a headache but I love driving it when it works. The engine is awesome... too bad the quality of the car stinks and it is not reliable! I am not sure if I would buy a VW again.

  • Warranty Woes - 2000 Volkswagen Jetta

This car is excellent until the warranty runs out. Even though I put a lot of miles on my Jetta, I thought it would hold up better than what it did. At one point I was putting 450 dollars a month in it for maintenance & parts alone. Parts for this thing will make you think you own a Mercedez. I hated to get rid of it, but post warranty maintenance was killing my pockets.

  • Fun to Drive - Reliable??? - 2000 Volkswagen Jetta
    By -

The 4 cyl. Jetta is really fun to drive however the 2.0 engine is a little slow. Splurge on the V6. I too have had to have the car in numerous times for unscheduled maintenance. 2 oxygen sensors and a failed fuel injector. The dealership (Midwestern Auto Group - Columbus,OH) has been less pleasurable. They had a fenderbender with my car and have been less than honest about some of the repairs they have made.

  • Good car to have if you take care of it - 2000 Volkswagen Jetta

Yea I bought my car from some guy who treated it like crap, when i bought it from him it had like 119,000 miles and a lot of stuff was wrong with it not anything extremely serious but it was a bit costly, i fixed every single thing that was wrong with the car and after that i never had problems with it again. very reliable car to have and very good on miles. thanx a million vw!
