Great long term car. - 1998 Nissan Maxima
By jcopeland - September 12 - 10:00 amI bought the SE new in 98 and aside from one malfunctioning indicator light (under warranty), it has never needed a repair. I drive it pretty hard and its yet to let me down. Only complaint is an occational vibration noise from the dash but the sound is very minor.

Love Hate - 1998 Nissan Maxima
By dizizbex24z - July 16 - 3:00 pmI have a dark green maxima. I really love my car but it keeps presenting me with problems. One thing I really hate that ive found on at least 2 other maximas is that the back of the car always sways from side to side when I hit a bump. I dont like other people driving it because I dont know if they know how to handle it. I also added green lights in the footwell and they look Nice.

The 4 door sports car - 1998 Nissan Maxima
By Chris Webber - July 11 - 5:13 amI bought this car used 3 years ago at 110,000 miles. It has been a great three years and I am now up to 150,000 miles on it. Then engine still is extremely strong and the cluth and trasmission have been just as durable. Car is alot of fun but I do wish I got the SE as it has more options than my GXE such as a sunroof and better suspension. The problems so far I have had are with the calipers which it has ate a few up the alternator, which was luckily replaced for free under recall. All in all this is a great car that has alot of power.

go maxima for maximum performance - 1998 Nissan Maxima
By g-mann - April 28 - 10:00 amThe maxima is one of the best cars i have ever owned, besides the visible fact that it can be a little hard on gas, its performance and comfort is worth every dollar of fuel you invest in. The maxima is also very reliable but that can also be said for most nissan products. If you like to put a vehicle to the test and be considered as one of the fastest on the street but still want to hide performance parts or give your mother or grandmother something to take grocery shopping, the nissan maxima is the car for you.

BEST MAX EVER - 1998 Nissan Maxima
By TheMax - February 12 - 2:00 amIve had a lot of Maximas in my life time. Ive had a 1989 Maxima GXE, 1992 Maxima GXE, 1995 GXE, 1996 SE, And Finally a 1998 SE. These cars have been the best cars Ive ever owned. Ive owned Hondas, Acuras, Toyota ect. And the Nissans have been my favorite. Im 19 years old and i still have more cars to go, but the maximas are by far my favorite. The performance is excellent, handling and suspension is out of this world the car is just all in all great. Easy to work on and very fun to drive.

Fast, Fun, and Inexpensive - 1998 Nissan Maxima
By Paul Huang - November 5 - 2:00 amThe car has been reliable: small problems include battery replacement under warranty and a front-end squeak that dealers have not been able to fix. The rear suspension lands with a harsh thud when going over speed bumps with both rear wheels. If only 1 wheel goes over the bump its fine. The engine is great!!! The clutch is getting close to replacement after 76000 hard (not auto-journalist level of hard though) miles. I love my car and have problems finding a potential replacement. I have money to buy a more expensive car, but even then I cant find a car that is as fast, fun, and reliable as my $18K Maxima.

good compromise - 1998 Nissan Maxima
By microshitf - October 6 - 10:00 am98 Maxima SE, 54k miles, manual transmission. Zero problems so far after 17k miles and one year of ownership (I bought it used). Small quirks: some screeching sounds from time to time from the brake pads, some whinning sounds from the clutch esp during warm weather.

Great Car!!! - 1998 Nissan Maxima
By bigev - September 27 - 7:33 pmThis car has been in my family since 98. Never had any serous problems knock wood. It is fully factory except for a k&n air filter. Gas mileage not 2 bad I get about 17 city on regular and about 28 highway. Engine is more than sufficient. Currently has 112,000 mi on it still almost as good as new. I would recommend this car to anyone in the used car market
