Great and reliable - 1998 Nissan Maxima
By reggaedg - July 26 - 5:25 amGot this car from a friend 18 months ago, car was sitting for a year. This car has 268,000 miles on it and you could walk by it and not know that the engine was running. Installed new brakes and rotors and a paint job. Car now looks and run like new. Love the car, very reliable and the gas mileage is excellent for a 6 cylinder. Step on the gas and this car will launch you in a new dimension. The ride is tight, well it is a 4 door sport car after all. This car is fun to drive and if you plan to lend it to someone be certain to advise them on the quick throttle response. They could get a whiplash on take off.

Best Car Ive Owned - 1998 Nissan Maxima
By Best Ever - September 6 - 12:46 pmBought a new 98 Maxima SE 5spd to replace a BMW 525. Ive driven 215k miles and the only non-wear item replaced has been the alternator! Still has the original clutch, second set of spark-plugs, and second set of brake pads. I drive mostly highway and average 26 mpg. It seems to have a perfect blend of economy and performance, and I couldnt be happier!

Love it! - 1998 Nissan Maxima
By Shmegan - September 4 - 10:00 amBought a black SE w/ leather and manual tranny last year. Ive driven it hard and it hasnt let me down yet. For the money, there is nothing that couldve touched this in performance, comfort and looks. I recommend switching to synthetic oil, platinum spark plugs and dont even think about using 89 octane gas. (Something to consider before buying with gas prices what they are.)

Fun family car. - 1998 Nissan Maxima
By 14a10 - June 11 - 10:00 amThis car is a fun to drive family car. I really enjoy the handleing and acceleration. I bought this car used, and after a couple months the engine would blow blue smoke on accelerating. A new engine later (warrany replacement) and I am one happy camper. I am 66", I feel a little cramped, but they really dont make a car for my size.

the max - 1998 Nissan Maxima
By jamaicanlovrboy - October 10 - 5:00 pmi jus recently bought my nissan maxima. i had a 89 bmw 325i before, and the maxima is cheaper to maintain. only problem i had so far is the rear calipers locked up on me. has a very responsive V6. this car has tons of dress-up, and performance parts. ive already changed my Y-pipe, intake and exhaust, lightweight flywheel, clutch, had my ECU flashed by JET, and oh man this baby moves. this car wont win a gas saver race, but i know i have fun buring the gas and hearing that 3.0 scream.

Competent sports sedan - 1998 Nissan Maxima
By tdisalvo - September 20 - 10:00 amThe Maxima satisfied many of my automotive needs. I needed a sedan but didnt want it to be ugly. I needed japanese reliability without sacrificing performance. I needed a 6- cylinder engine AND a manual transmission. I also needed an affordable price. The Maxima fills all of my requirements and does it with style. Nissan builts character & personality into their cars, something Honda/Acura should look into. Go test drive a 5-speed Maxima, youll see what I mean.

Great Car - 1998 Nissan Maxima
By John_Denver - June 12 - 7:40 amIve only owned mine for a year and put around 19k on it but its been a free ride so far. I have the 5 spd. Agree with someone else who complained its not the easiest to drive smoothly but no complaints otherwise. I love the reliability (nothing has failed) and quality of materials/workmanship. It gets around 28 mpg and has plenty of power. Third gear is my favorite - it just keeps pulling. Suspension is a little soft - it doesnt track like my old 318i or GTI but sure is nice on the highway. I plan to drive it a long time.

not bad, definite room for improvement - 1998 Nissan Maxima
By cxk - November 6 - 2:00 amVery reliable and awesome engine, now for the negatives. I know Nissan was having financial problems in the mid to late 90s and it showed in its cars. Very dissapointing handling. The car sits up way to high and whats with the solid beam rear axle(you generally find that in entry level cheap cars). The only other negative is the very cheap looking cloth seats.

max 6+ years - 1998 Nissan Maxima
By dogz max - July 5 - 3:23 amIve had my MAX since January 2000. It is a vehicle well worth buying. Ive changed the oil, spark plugs, knock sensor, brakes, and timing belt. Unbelievable how I dont now the inside of dealership. Wish 2004 Max generation family had better reviews because I will stick with Nissan, just think about getting the Q45. I have 155,000 miles now and still runs almost as good as the day I bought it with 22,000 miles on it. I highly advise this car to anyone.
