This Year's Model Updates:

In an effort to mold its image into that of a serious first-rate automobile manufacturer, Hyundai has recently added standard equipment and enhanced the performance of several of its cars. The redesigned Accent and new Sonata are proving that this South Korean automaker has finally learned how to build a good car. The current Elantra provides even more proof, and the company offers an industry-leading warranty program to back it up.

Pros:
  • Solidly built, powerful engine for its class, plenty of standard features.
Cons:
  • The price on this "inexpensive" Korean car keeps going up.

  • Pleasantly Surprised! - 2000 Hyundai Elantra

When I was shopping for a car I was looking for a 2nd hand beater. Something simple to get me back & forth to work. I wanted something inexpensive and after much looking I found the Elantra at a local stealership. Wow! Where do I begin? Dollar for dollar you cannot beat what this lil car has to offer. First of all these cars only come in one trim that means you get EVERYTHING! Power windows, locks, AC, am/fm radio, etc... Even the powerplant is not dissapointing. The 2.0L DOHC provides plenty of zip for this car. The fit and finish is very good. Hyundai has definitely learned from their mistakes and done a complete 180. I highly recommend this car!

  • Great little wagon - 2000 Hyundai Elantra

This car has been a pleasure to own. Bought it new in winter of 99 and have minimal problems (2) First had the speedometer go bad (under warranty) and second, had a front wheel bearing replaced at 72k (under warranty). This little wagon can haul just about anything. Have hauled tons of stuff from the garden center, hot water heater, dining room set, and a refrigerator! It is comfortable on a trip and gets anywhere from 33 to 38 mpg. Got 42k out of the factory tires and the second set seems to be wearing even better. Besides two warranty repairs, just the usual wear items of tires, brakes and tune-up.

  • Great car-SW Elantra - 2000 Hyundai Elantra

I decided to buy a station wagon that was economical and yet could cruise at 120 kph in the BC rockies and be confortable in big city traffic.I did my homework and ended up buying a sandle wood coloured SW Elantra, fully loaded, with additional roof rackage and a black bra to highlight its pleasingly nice looks and a disabler alarm system was free.79,000 km later it has not disapointed as there has not been a single hickup, even the brakes recently checked out at 75% remaining. At 145 HP and 35 MPG I could not be happier. Extremely low maintenance.

I have no complaints on this car. I would buy a wagon again. It is a little tight in the back seat for three adults or two kids and a car seat.

I went from a Lincolm Towncar to the Hyundai Elantra Wagon & Ive never been as satisfied with a car. I can scoot around traffic with ease. Its no V8, but I have no problem with exceleration. My dealership is wonderful & I recommend the Southtowne Motors in Newnan, GA to everyone. I have had few problems with this car.

  • LOVE THIS CAR - 2000 Hyundai Elantra

I started out driving an 85 Accord, but after it was totaled in a wreck with a drunk driver, I got my Elantra. I love it! The cassette player broke, but the speakers are great. I love the compact size, you can squeeze through tight spaces and park almost anywhere. The gear selector safety lock is a pain sometimes. This car has a lot of power for a four cylinder. I was impressed. Handles very well, very easy to drive. The fuel economy isnt bad, but thought it might be a little better for a four cylinder. The trunk is also suprisingly spacious. This is a great car for a high school student.

  • Reliable Car - 2000 Hyundai Elantra

Bought my car new. In 3 1/2 years, I racked up 110,000 miles. Only problem I had so far was with one spark plug cable going bad, causing the engine to run rough. It caused me $60 to repair. Other than this, I spent money on regular maintenance such as oil&filter change (3-4K miles), one set of tires, and spark plugs.

Since I purchase this car in March 2000 Ive had zero problems. I change the oil every five thou, had the tires replaced at 30,000 and one tune-up. I couldnt be more please. Naturaly the air filter, oil filter and other regular maintance items have been replaced.

  • good relatively cheap car - 2000 Hyundai Elantra

I had a pleasant experience with this car. Not enough power though. The sound system is badly designed but it is not an essential part of a car I guess... for me at least. It get realatively good mileage on the highways. Wished it kept its value better.
