This Year's Model Updates:

In an effort to mold its image into that of a serious first-rate automobile manufacturer, Hyundai has recently added standard equipment and enhanced the performance of several of its cars. The redesigned Accent and new Sonata are proving that this South Korean automaker has finally learned how to build a good car. The current Elantra provides even more proof, and the company offers an industry-leading warranty program to back it up.

Pros:
  • Solidly built, powerful engine for its class, plenty of standard features.
Cons:
  • The price on this "inexpensive" Korean car keeps going up.

review really isnt for shoppers, but for the manufacturer. Please bring back my station wagon. Mine has a little over 100k miles on it and is still the best car Ive ever owned. The body gave up the ghost and is held together with duck tape and flex steel but who cares. It takes me wherever I need to go and has never failed to amaze me on how much cargo it carries. Please, return it to the assembly line!

  • First New Car, First New Hyundai and not the last - 2000 Hyundai Elantra

I purchased the car new Oct 99. Drove 2 Cali & back to MN a couple of times at generally 80 plus speeds. Smooth ride good economy. Wish it had ABS. It was an option but I wanted a manual & at the time Hyundai figured manual was for eco & ABS was a luxury. I had to lock up one time and put a flat spot on all 4 tyres & left an imprint of the pad on the rotors. The tranny did go at 95k (thank god for 100k warnty) The pin that holds the gears together broke. Wheel bearing (wrty) I have 126k mile would have more but I ride motorcycle alot. I thought Hyundai was junk but the 100k wrty gave me faith. I have purchased a 08 Veracuz, & thinkn bout the new Elantra just cuz 15 mpg sucks & 30 would rule

  • 185,000 miles and still going strong! - 2000 Hyundai Elantra

I bought my car used in 2002 and have not had any problems with it whatsoever except the front middle console lid breaking off since I bought it. I have 185,000 miles on my car and have never had anything go wrong with it (knock on wood). I would highly recommend this car to any commuter. Best car Ive ever owned. If Hyundai made an AWD car instead of the larger SUVs Id go out and buy one in a heartbeat!

Bought this car new, and hate to trade it. Put 100,000 on it without any major problems.

Upon deciding if I wanted a new car or not, my thought was basically this: Invest 1,200 dollars into an 8 year old car with 209,000 miles, and drive it for 2 more years, or buy a new one and have a 500 a month car payment for 3 years. I no longer drive 35,000 miles a year, so the deciding factor for me was doing a compression test on the engine. It was still well within factory specs., and it uses NO oil between oil changes. The body is still in good shape, everything still works fine. Why buy a new one? I will say I have changed the oil every 3k miles with fully synthetic oil, Slick 50 every 50,000 miles, timing belt with exterior belts every 60k, and regular tune-ups.

  • I [heart] my Hyundai! - 2000 Hyundai Elantra

This is the second Hyundai Ive owned (first was an Excel). Bought it used 6 years ago and havent had a major issue, just routine maintenance. The one thing that I would note with Hyundais is that some minor issues do crop up-- like, the drivers side power window is out of alignment, the lid to the storage compartment b/w the seats broke off, the front passenger door is a little tough to open no matter how much its lubricated. Like I said, all MINOR issues. Its a VERY reliable vehicle and I would DEFINITELY buy an Elantra again.

I am very happy with this car. Very comfortable, reliable, good gaz mileage (measured 31 mpg on average) and a lot of standard features for a reasonnable price. Also the engine 2.0L 16V engine of 140 HP is powerful enough for all situations.

Love my lil car. In the 5 years or ownership this car has been back to the dealer once for a recall. Otherwise no other problems.
