Overview & Reviews
In an effort to mold its image into that of a serious first-rate automobile manufacturer, Hyundai has recently added standard equipment and enhanced the performance of several of its cars. The redesigned Accent and new Sonata are proving that this South Korean automaker has finally learned how to build a good car. The current Elantra provides even more proof, and the company offers an industry-leading warranty program to back it up.
- Solidly built, powerful engine for its class, plenty of standard features.
- The price on this "inexpensive" Korean car keeps going up.

No longer a good used buy - 2000 Hyundai Elantra
By Mike - July 6 - 2:50 amI bought this car with about 65,000 miles on it, and now have 110,000. If Id written this review before the 95K mark, it would have been a glowing review. However, since then just about everything has come apart-- the transmission (and Im not one to push a car and dont live in the city), the power window, horn, check engine light, oxygen sensor, wiring etc. This is one of those cars that falls apart at 100K, and youre unlikely to find one with lower miles these days. The Elantra was essentially redesigned the *next* year, so the newer models may well be worth looking at.

By TW - March 7 - 7:38 pmNever had any trouble with this car, I did change the timing belt at about 60000 miles and do timely maintenance as recommended. I would buy this car again.

Good Value - 2000 Hyundai Elantra
By HunnyCar - March 1 - 5:55 pmFun to drive, especially for a wagon. Handling is zippy and predictable, The 2-liter V6 is smooth and predictable. Reliability has been good at 49,000 miles, but the radio gave out early.

What a Shame (I love this car) - 2000 Hyundai Elantra
By Kalroffb - October 8 - 3:36 amI have been to several dealerships in my area and have had some disturbing problems: Getting complete service on my oil changes (skimping on fluids or forgetting to check them) We had our car dented at dealer facility. Have had a couple elec. doodads replaced before 30K . The idle being rough when the car is warm and in gear. Rare instances it wants to die, but it starts right back up. This is progressive problem worked on 3x not fixed. Trans. has started leaking at 40K

Hyundai Elentra 2.0i GLS - 2000 Hyundai Elantra
By Califorguy - June 7 - 10:00 amI am very happy with this car. Very comfortable, reliable, good gaz mileage (measured 31 mpg on average) and a lot of standard features for a reasonnable price. Also the engine 2.0L 16V engine of 140 HP is powerful enough for all situations.

So-so - 2000 Hyundai Elantra
By Jordan - January 25 - 12:16 pmI bought the Elantra used, though only 1 year old several years back. I just traded it in for a Kia a few weeks ago. I was surprised to find it used a lot more gas then I expected for such a light vehicle. Overall it was reliable, it ran fine when traded in and major problems never seemed to crop up. But minor things kept breaking like power windows, dash lights shorted out, dash clock shorted out, cd player broke, and the CV joints (not covered under mfg warranty) kept going even when I was careful about my driving. The interior design was nice, everything was easy to find and use, important in an emergency or when first driving a new vehicle. Outside it looked nice for a wagon.

Great Car for the Money - 2000 Hyundai Elantra
By Kathleen - January 19 - 10:46 amI bought this car new in 2000 and have since driven it 140,000. It could not have been a better car to own. The gas mileage is great for my situation (a 60 mile round trip to work each day) and I have done nothing but routine maintenance. I do keep the oil changed every 3000 miles, but other than a few belts and tires, it has been maintenance free.
