  • Better than I expected - 2017 Honda Civic

    No maintenance issues with the car so far; we have 700 miles on the car. The turbo engine and CVT combination is a *great* bit of engineering - superior low-end torque *and* great mileage. There is a tiny bit of turbo lag, but for daily commuting and long distance trips its a non-issue. We test drove a Mazda3 Grand Touring before the Civic and that engine had to be flogged to get the same acceleration. And unlike my friends 2.5i Subaru Outback, this engine/CVT does not annoy me with constant RPM droning. The CVT seems to find the right RPM for the moment. Unlike my 2006 Highlander which has horrible down-shift lag when passing other cars, this car "downshifts" *right now*. The car handles well, not as good as a 2017 GTI, but definitely better than the other compact cars Ive owned (2000 Accord, 2004 Corolla, 2010 Corolla) and tested. Cornering turn-in is much better than expected for a front-wheel-drive car. The driver seat is one of the best fits ever for me and Im six feet tall. On the other hand, the passenger seat sits too low in the car for both me and my wife. The entertainment system took a while to figure out and is a bit quirky. The user interface could be better. Interior fit and finish is great. Overall great car. One of our best car buys ever.

    So far I have put on 1100 plus miles and I do not have any complaints. The car handles well and is roomy (Im 62") with plenty of space for passengers. I think the price I paid was fair and I would do business with my dealer again. Lots of cargo room too. The 6sp manual transmission is quick and responsive and fun to drive.

  • Majority Upgrade, A Few Issues - 2017 Honda Civic

    My lease came sure on my 2014 So, and enjoyed the car, so I upgraded to the 2017 version. The engine is noticably more powerful, and the exterior styling has been improved (the car looks a whole lot meaner, in my opinion). I have the same complaints from my 2014, and a couple new ones: STILL AN ISSUE: 1. Cupholder placement. I know drivers that prefer manual are a dying breed, but if youre going to make a manual-only Civic, dont put the cupholders in front of the shifter; 2. Touchscreen. Hondas interface has been upgraded (?) but its still terrible. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay can only control a piece of the system. The rest has to go through what Honda built. Painful. NEW: Parking Break. Part of the appeal of driving stick is the feeling of greater control over the car. The parking break button takes some of that away; 2. Break Hold. Seemed like an unnecessary, but nice feature for stopping on hills. Actually a huge pain in the ass. If you unbuckle your seatbelt when Break Hold is activated (for example, when grabbing a ticket at the parking garage), the parking break is activated. Very annoying when youre not expecting it.

  • Drive it before buying - 2017 Honda Civic

    Had quite a few Civics before so decided to buy the 2017 for its looks and power with excellent mileage. Should have asked to drive it for half a day before doing it.Did not take long to find a few things wrong with it. The main one was when I noticed the navigation system did not have a CD player like 99% of the others do. It actually looked like an after market unit on it. The steering wheel controls are not intuitive or in the wrong place. The volume control is very hard to adjust and the cruise control easy to turn off by accident. Should have gone for the Kia Forte which for about the same price it comes with Cadillac features, like seats with both A/C and Heat, memory power seats for two drivers and two remote controls for gates and garage doors. Not to mention the 5 year instead of 3 warranty. The main reason I decided not go buy it was for its lousy gas mileage. If you decide to buy the Civic I sugges you insist in getting at least two years of free maintenance from your salesman which is not hard to get.

    Great combination of economy, some fun, and reasonable roominess for a phenomenal price! Highway mileage is good for the long commute, yet you can let the turbo wind out the gears for some quickness on curvy roads. The cargo space is surprizingly large with and without the back seats down. All this for under $20k.
