  • I LOVE MY 2000 SONATA! - 2000 Hyundai Sonata

Original owner of 4cyl 5-spd model and get 32/45 mpg after 5 years/68,000! Interior is roomy & comfortable for long road trips handling is agile a/c is ice-cold. Timing belt tensioner failed when I was thousands of miles from home, but dealership in Buffalo, NY quickly took care of it under warranty and put us back on the road to finish our vacation trip same day. Local Houston dealer has handled recalls and other warranty matters very well. Price & warranty got me to try it (always a Toyota buyer before). Id buy another Sonata & have recommended to others!

  • Never ending problem car - 2000 Hyundai Sonata

Unfortunately, I bought the cae used, so I didnt get the 100,000 mile warranty. At 50,000 miles drivers window mechanism went. I have since replaced all wheel bearings once and now a second on the rear, after only 25000 miles. There were no lugnuts for the spare donut tire. The capped lugnuts wont work. now at 100,000+ miles the car is always in the shop for various transmission and engine sensors. I have driven cars almost 200000 miles and never have replaced wheel bearings. This model should have been on a recall list. While the car drives and handles well, mechanically it is a piece of junk. The government should not allow vehicles like this into the country.

  • Will Never Buy a Hyundai Again :) - 2000 Hyundai Sonata

I have had problems with this car from the minute I drove it off the lot. Discovered an oil consumption problem when there was no oil in the car after 1000 miles.According to Hyundai specs it is acceptable to burn a quart of oil per 1000 miles in a new car. I tried to get them to fix this problem under the warrrany but they refused. I was very dissappointed in the corp. They finally admitted and fixed the problem at 60,000m when in the shop (for another problem) it was discovered that the piston ring gaps were lined up. Also numerous power window problems, wheel bearings, new catalytic converter, check engine light constantly coming on. Have had enough it is time for this car to go!

No problems encountered so far the only negative thing for me personally is the reputation these Korean cars have.

  • Beware of 2000 Hyundai Sonata - 2000 Hyundai Sonata

I had transmission replaced the first year I purchased the car when it would skip by the second gear. The transmission again was replaced in year 3 and again in year 4. The 10 year warranty was the main selling point when I purchased the Sonata, but I dont think it wouldve lasted that long. Thank God I got rid of it before the five year comprehensive expired.

  • Warranty Issues - 2000 Hyundai Sonata

Please who ever may read this. Be extreamly Cautious to the Warranty in which Hyundai offeres. Beware that THEY chose whether to honnor the Warranty!!! I have less than 80,000 miles on my car and the engine blew. Ive have had to Hire a Attorney due to Hyundai refusing to Honoring the Power Train Warranty. I maintained my car and have all the reciepts. But that did not matter in regards to Corp. Hyundai when it came to honorring the Waranty I have read other complaints online. You might want to check out Hyundai before you even purchase one!!!

  • When it gets to 100,000.....sell it. - 2000 Hyundai Sonata
    By -

The car runs great..... its very confortable and its worth the money you pay for it. The things that went bad on my GLS V6 were: power window$450, sun roof$500, valve cover gasket$400, wheel bearings$600(both rear wheels). I have spent a lot of money on it....but after 100,000 miles what do you expect.

  • Steaming in the South... - 2000 Hyundai Sonata

I liked this car at first, then at 66,00 miles , just out of warranty, it broke down. I paid for a new crankshaft ($975.00),then after two weeks, it broke down again, new timer belt, timer ($500.00), after three weeks it wasnt running again, this time it was a pulley (449.00, $300 just for the mechanic to tap the bolts back into the engine block!) The cassette player broke after warranty expired, and paint started chipping off the sides, and I live in the South. The sonata still drives funny, I think it might be the trans. I drive this car with kid gloves, I know longer feel confident in these cars. I am going to trade it in asap.

  • Not Bad for the Money - 2000 Hyundai Sonata

Good reliable transportation. I beat this car like a red headed step child. Lots of high speed, jack rabbit starts and idling. Excellent Heat and A/C. 30MPG also. Have had problems: Both Front windows stopped rolling up (cause was Nylon Wear Strips), Both rear wheel bearings, 3 camshaft position sensors, EVAP purge valve, lastly major engine oil leaks. 84000 miles and still under warranty. 4cyl w/5 spd.
