Overview & Reviews
Hyundai has added a GT sedan to the lineup. It has the same price and equipment as the GT hatchback, save for a rear wiper, and it gets a body-color rear spoiler. The hatchback will wear a black rear lip spoiler, and both GTs will come with floor mats. Meanwhile, the value-packed GLS sedan remains unchanged, except ABS will be slightly more affordable, as it has been added to the Accessory Group 3 options package, which costs $925. Finally, Hyundai announced that it had misstated the horsepower ratings for all of the models in its lineup -- the Elantra is now rated at 135 hp, rather than 140, though the engine itself is unchanged.
- Solidly built, powerful engine for its class, plenty of standard features, ultralow price tag.
- Poor offset crash test score, ABS available only as a package option.

2003 Elantra GT - 2003 Hyundai Elantra
By Dujybug - September 4 - 10:00 amI purchased my Elantra GT in February 2003. Having driven it for several months now, I love the way the car handles. It is wonderful to drive on the freeway or in city traffic.

Nice Car, Bad MPG - 2003 Hyundai Elantra
By Chen - August 31 - 1:17 pmA very good car. I got it as a used one with 35,000 miles. Its comfort but very, very poor mpg in city. ~ 200-250 miles/tank (14.5 gallon). Omg, where is the gas going? but good mpg in highway, ~ 30 mpg.

VERY DISAPPOINTED - 2003 Hyundai Elantra
By Mrs Barrett - August 8 - 4:19 pmI bought this car in 06 with only 15k miles on it so it was like brand new. I bought it because of the reputation of reliability, quality and gas mileage. But right at 50,000 miles in the middle of a road trip, my radiator suddenly cracked without warning and all of my coolant leaked out on the spot and my engine overheated. It all happened within 60 seconds at a stop light. I ended up stranded for 4 full days. Finally the dealership discovered the cracked radiator. No one can explain why that happened. I have kept impeccable care of the car. In fact I checked my coolant levels etc before I left on the trip. All was fine. It cost me over $1000 and now I am nervous to go on a trip!

Love my Elantra - 2003 Hyundai Elantra
By Timzee - July 29 - 10:00 amCouldnt decide between a Sonata and Elantra. I opted for less expensive. I love this car. I got a loaded car for less than 16K. It rides great, is responsive and has great pep. It is easy to handle, and with all of its features, you cant go wrong. Hyundai spared very little expense on this car. Hell the tires on this car run 130 a piece!

Hyundai - Make of the Future - 2003 Hyundai Elantra
By JayMo - July 16 - 2:00 amExcellent car loaded with features with a good cash rebate! Hyundai has come along way. 2-1/2 years ago this car was "tinny" and felt insubstantial and cheap. No more!! Compared with Protege, Sentra, Corolla and Civic. Extras included as standard features and price kicked butt. Ive owned Honda, Toyota and Nissan products and I believe they are pricing themselves out of the compact car market. All they have to offer is the snob factor. Wonder how long it will take most Americans to latch onto this great little car?

The car for new College Graduates.... - 2003 Hyundai Elantra
By kennies - July 16 - 2:00 amVery nice car. This car is starting to become popular. I was looking an affordable car that can get me around. I dont want a corolla or civic, cuz everyone has those. I wanted something cheaper and maybe better. This car is it. Bought in August drove it 2 months 7000 miles already. Wow 3500 per month. The oil leaked once, but i fixed it by tightening the oil filter. The shop must not have tighten the oil filter when i did an oil change. Besides that its purrfect. Im planning to drive this car to the ground since its not going to have a resale value, which im fine with. I just know i got a good deal on this car.

Great Value - 2003 Hyundai Elantra
By OmahaMark - July 16 - 2:00 amThis is a fun-to-drive car with many standard features. It has a surprising amount of room inside. I am 63", 280 lbs and I fit in the drivers seat just fine with ample leg room (after I adjusted the seat angle a little). I like the fact that almost everything comes standard. The only extra I got was a spoiler for an additional $500. Everything else I wanted came standard. The only hangup Ive had is its low-end torque. It seems like I really have to wind the engine up to get it to accelerate well. It doesnt really take off until I hit 3500 RPMs.

Love it - 2003 Hyundai Elantra
By DustinD - July 4 - 10:00 amI test drove this car for about 100 miles (I know the salesperson) and it was great, the Toyota Corolla seat comfort sucked, and the leather in this thing was a little sticky, but other than that, it was great, I live in Sacramento and the A/C kept me nice and cool (so much for my current camry, new a/c system and STILL warm) Im buying this car in November 2002, I fell in love with it. I love the Saab rear end look and the purple gauges.

Great Car! - 2003 Hyundai Elantra
By Hyndi03 - June 23 - 3:47 pmBought the car pre-owned with 50,000 miles on it and it now has 88,000 and never had a problem. Had the car two years and constantly commute state to state. I can put $35 of gas in the tank (which is about 14 gallons if you really push it) and get around 450 miles to the tank. Drove from Philadelphia to Vermont without filling up and still had gas left over! Keep up on the oil changes, transmission flushes, and the tune ups and this car will never leave you stranded. Reliable, simple, and has good pickup.

Nice - 2003 Hyundai Elantra
By PB - June 11 - 10:00 amThis is my second Elantra, I had a 1999 model, I am very please with the car, I would recommend to anyone. It is a very nice car, I feel this maker would eventually capture the US market based on warranty and quality.
