This Year's Model Updates:

Hyundai has added a GT sedan to the lineup. It has the same price and equipment as the GT hatchback, save for a rear wiper, and it gets a body-color rear spoiler. The hatchback will wear a black rear lip spoiler, and both GTs will come with floor mats. Meanwhile, the value-packed GLS sedan remains unchanged, except ABS will be slightly more affordable, as it has been added to the Accessory Group 3 options package, which costs $925. Finally, Hyundai announced that it had misstated the horsepower ratings for all of the models in its lineup -- the Elantra is now rated at 135 hp, rather than 140, though the engine itself is unchanged.

Pros:
  • Solidly built, powerful engine for its class, plenty of standard features, ultralow price tag.
Cons:
  • Poor offset crash test score, ABS available only as a package option.

  • Probably would buy another one. - 2003 Hyundai Elantra

Paid $13,700 for this car: power everything, moonroof and ABS. Im 63" and find it fairly comfortable to sit in--very good visibility. No trouble to date, at 18,000 miles. Very quiet car. This car blows the Ford Focus away (I got rid of my focus at 36,000 miles because of build quality and it was very uncomfortable). Bottom line: If I had to spend less than $14,000 on another car, I would buy another Elantra. (but see the suggested improvements)

My 2003 elantra Having 60 series 15” Mich tires front and rear Stabilizers bars and 2.0 Liter engine Makes for quick and easy Back road driving. Yet with the 4 speed automatic trans turning the motor about 2200 rpms at about 65 mph has got to be more than 33 mpg highway mileage and having a ten year 100,000 mile warranty and 9990 price tag what else can you ask for.

  • Just Bought New Hyundai - 2003 Hyundai Elantra

Hello, I just purchased a new Hyundai GLS 4 dr w/ automatic transmission today for my daughter. It is a quiet car for the money. As a first car, it is perfect for the college kid. It has A/C Power windows, doorlocks, tilt wheel, cruise control AM/FM/CD and Sunroof. It is really loaded for such a small car. Time will tell as to how reliable it is. We expect good gas mileage and cheap operation.

Car was purchased new. It can handle quite a lot: I had several huge people in my elentra when I struck the mother of all potholes traveling at a high rate of speed on the God forsaken streets of Brooklyn NY, I really thought at the very least there should have been casualties but to my amazement the car was not affected in any way. Another time my father had a huge accident drunk driving accident, it cost so many thousands to piece the car together everyone suggested the car should be scrapped yet the insurance carrier insisted it be repaired. To my amazement the car still rides well after massive cross- your finger type of repairs.

  • awesome car for the price - 2003 Hyundai Elantra

I absolutely love this car. I test drove all the competition and no other maker could offer so much for the Hyundai price and I actually prefered the looks and handling of the Hyundai over the higher priced competition. The hatchback is awesome and has a ton of room when the back seats are folded down, like a mini SUV. The car is very fun to drive, all my friends are impressed. It handles as nice as the Subaru WRX but about 5K less in price. Has way more horsepower than a Honda Civic and a much better look. Hyundai has made a believer out of me and I highly recommend the hatchback.

  • Humming Noise at Highway Speed - 2003 Hyundai Elantra
    By -

We experienced a humming noise that occurred at about 60mph. Sounded like someone blowing into the top of a empty pop-bottle. Took it to the Dealer yesterday and they had just got a memo to replace the front door seals! Good timing :) The problem was fixed and the mechanic was extremely personable. We love our Elantra GLS. It does well on the highway with pickup & go. A problem that my wife was worried about with a smaller engine. Not a problem with passing or getting up to speed quickly.
