  • If one must own a minivan, the Odyssey is great - 2018 Honda Odyssey
    By -

My wife and I swore that we would never own a minivan. Then she became pregnant with our fourth child. Combine that with the complexities of the car lines at the kids’ schools, and poof, we went from being cool kids to owning not just one but two 2018 Odyssey Elites. I previously owned a 2017 Lexus LX 570 and she owned a 2016 Volvo XC 90. Needless to say, we were pretty happy with our former vehicles. But sometimes things happen in life that cause needs and priorities to change. We went with the Odyssey primarily because the magic slide seats are, well, magical. It is amazing how easy it is to configure the interior seating of this vehicle. I am 6’1” and a big guy. Because of various other family members who tag along sometimes, I’ve ridden in the second and third rows. Amazingly, with the magic slide seat pushed inbound and forward for entry purposes, I had no problem entering the third row. In addition, it was comfortable and I actually enjoyed sitting back there and watching a movie with my 6 year-old daughter (who thought it was hilarious that daddy was in the back with her). I have 2100 miles on my Odyssey and have had no problems with the vehicle whatsoever other than the doors (which I will get to). The van drives great, is economical, loaded with amazing technology, and has more utility and useful room than any large SUV I have ever owned. I still find myself wondering how a vehicle that small (I’ve previously owned Suburbans, etc.) can feel so big inside. I still haven’t towed anything yet (my 10 year-old sails competitively) so the jury is still out on that one. I also find myself why I previously owned much more expensive SUVs that had no more (and sometimes less) tech than the Odyssey. In a world where a loaded 2018 Expedition costs nearly $80k, a loaded Odyssey Elite at $44k (what we paid for both of ours) seems like a pretty great deal. Have there been a few occasions where I felt a little less macho with my minivan? Yes, a few; but surprisingly, not many. Being a man is about taking care of your family; and this van is the best family vehicle I’ve ever owned by a long shot. Two months into ownership, the stigma is long gone from my head and I stopped caring about what others think. The only “complaints” that I have about the vehicle are as follows; 1) the driver’s armrest is useless to me. There is no position in which it feels comfortable; 2) the sliding doors are a little quirky at times - usually closing in car line. I suspect that is some kind of sensor that relates to someone being close to the door on the outside. It’s pretty rare, but worth mentioning; 3) no 360 degree camera. This is the only thing my wife hates about the Odyssey. Acura has it. Nissan has had it for years. Honda, this would have been a simple addition; 4) the automatic emergency breaking feature, while it saved my behind on my last vehicle, is a little sensitive in the Odyssey in town with lots of traffic; and 5) the second row seats are heavy and difficult to remove. However, on the last point, the second row seats on the Pacifica are much less comfortable. Comparing apples to apples, I’ll take magic slide over stow-and-go any day of the week and twice on Sunday. While I have read complaints about the 10-speed transmission, we have not experienced any such problems. Good luck shopping.

  • Best Minivan of 2018!! - 2018 Honda Odyssey

I first purchased a Toyota Sienna Minivan back in 2006, and that was great and all, but when I was introduced to the 2018 Honda Odyssey, I instantly bought it! It has been amazing ever since I bought it, much better than the Sienna! The Elite trim level gives everything that Honda offers, which is great!

  • Pretty Disappointed with Quality Decline of Honda - 2018 Honda Odyssey

We replaced my wifes 2016 Honda Odyssey Touring a few months back for the all new 2018 Elite. We were having Transmission Issues at only 21K miles with the 16 and upon reading several online reviews and forums, found this to be more common than it should be. We initially picked up a new 18 EX-L as the options were pretty similar to our Touring and immediately started having issues with a couple of rattles that the dealer could not pinpoint after keeping the car for a week. Being that we only had it in our possession for 1 full day the dealer agreed to let me swap it for the Elite. Fortunately the rattles have not been an issue, but now we have a new problem. There is a rather severe popping from the front end when turning under power (i.e. into a parking spot, parking in driveway). We took it back to the dealer where they kept it for a week to replace the entire front/left strut assembly and coil. Picked it up and less than 30 minutes later when backing out of a parking spot and turning we heard the pop again. Its done this several times since and we are planning to take back to the shop once more. Also as other reviews have pointed out, the placement of the rear a/c vents is horrible if you have children in car seats. I cant believe Honda wouldnt think about this issue before removing the vents from the roof. Other than these problems, the new Odyssey drives great, is quiet and gets better mileage. The new electronics are a huge improvement as well. We love driving the new Odyssey, just very disappointed with the quality of our $47K van.

  • So far, So good - 2018 Honda Odyssey

Traded in my 2002 Odyssey EX with 209,700 miles last week for the 2018 EX, White Diamond Pearl with Mocha interior. I loved my old one but I had an urge for new technology and comfort. So far, I love my new one!! I didnt bother looking at any other Minivan because I knew I wanted another Odyssey. I also really like the styling of this one. 2 weeks and 230 miles of ownership, and Ive gotten 3 comments from people saying my van looks nice!! The seats are super comfy and supportive, everything on the interior seems high quality and not cheap at all. Practicality is this vans strong point, cup holders and storage compartments everywhere!! I hate clutter, so I can neatly store and organize all my junk in the door compartments and under the seats. Im most impressed with how this van drives, the steering is a little stiff with good road feel, minimal oversteer. along with a buttery smooth transmission gear changes and superbly quiet cabin even at high speed! Im a huge fan of the gauge cluster...it looks modern and cool, but easy to see while not distracting my eyes from the road. My only complaint so far is cosmetic and completely subjective; the wheels. They arent cheaply made, just not a fan of the design. I am planning to upgrade to 19 inch rims. I love my new Odyssey and look forward to driving it on lots of road trips in the future!!

  • Love it! - 2018 Honda Odyssey

We have had it one month and still getting used to it a bit, but generally love it so far. This is our second Honda Odyssey. The only two things that Ive noticed so far is that going from 1st to 2nd gear its not completely smooth. It doesnt really bother me but once you are past 2nd gear its as smooth as can be which is why Ive noticed a slight difference. The second thing is the entertainment system, when using XM radio, it will periodically jump to a station upon starting the car that I did not select (ex: Country or Korean Radio). I have found that I have to challenge myself to use the steering wheel controls as the touch panel your eyes get drawn to it longer than you probably want from the road to make selections. There are several features that you cannot engage in while driving & I understand the safety precautions driving this, but it is slightly frustrating.

  • 3rd Odyssey and am absolutely loving it. - 2018 Honda Odyssey

Ive had each of the last three generations of Odysseys, as well as a previous generation Sienna. In addition, I rent Siennas all the time for work and really like them. However, the new Odyssey blows them away. I was looking for a used Sienna or Odyssey to replace my 2011 EXL. However, resale values being exceptionally high, I was able to get into a new one for a couple thousand more. Im super-impressed with the upgrades over the last generation. Specifically, the safety suite is incredible. I didnt really think I needed it at first, but it is done so well that it isnt obtrusive and truly an asset. The ride quality is superb. It is quieter than either the old Odysseys or Siennas, but somehow feels connected to the road (the Sienna is a little too plush). The engine is responsive. If you floor it, you can actually squeal the tires. Not exactly normal minivan use- but fun nonetheless. The interior was beyond my expectations. Yes, the middle seats arent easy to take out. However, we only take the middle seats out once or twice a year. Im cool with the trade off of getting big comfortable seats instead of stow and go. We were given a town and country as a rental and the middle seats were flimsy and uncomfortable. The 2 axis sliding feature is great and helps manage the relationships of my kids. Again, Im super impressed. This is the first vehicle purchase I can remember where I havent had any buyers remorse.

  • Secound time is great - 2018 Honda Odyssey
    By -

after 26 years of owning Town and Country I purchased a 2014 Odyssey. It was better than the Town and Country but not what I was expecting concerning the electronics especially the voice recognition feature. Well my 2018 is great. It fixes all of the issues and it is significantly quieter.

  • Exterior 7/10, Interior 9/10, Driving 8/10, Value> - 2018 Honda Odyssey
    By -

Purchased this as i love styling & handling of Honda compare to Toyota (now a days Toyota have great exterior look!). Exterior look was great on 2014-2017 model on side giving solid look. New 2018 side view is horrible, but from front and rear it is looking okay/good. I wish they can offer LED headlights for EXL trims but i am very much disappointed despite paid over 40K i do not have LED headlights. Honda only offer LED headlights for Touring and Elite models which cost 5K to 7K more than EXL RES & NAV I purchased. I love keyless entry and push button start feature, auto seat position for 2 person and auto seat move back as soon as stop engine to get easy access in and out. RES feature is good as i can pay music and video thru USB drive. Useless blue-ray player as most people now a days use USB so Honda could save us some money not having blue-ray drive. Instrument panel has screen which is great. also has turn by turn guidance within. Leather seats are great. Air vents position for rear passengers is located on seating position so that baby in rear face carseat have lots of trouble getting cold air. Trunk cargo floor area is not flush/straight (at center it has bump!) Auto Start feature is included which is awesome! Floor mats quality is too cheap. interior lights are not LED either! Sound quality is acceptable so that i do not think to upgrade. Built in navigation is good. Have android and Apple Car Play but to use of it you have to plug your phone with same USB that you are using with Music and Video! I really disappointed here as if i wanted to use car play and kids also wanted to watch movies; both cannot be happen at same time. My parents said that seating inside this car is more comfortable and spacious than my sisters 2011 Toyota Sienna. Steering wheel is so much responsive too. Acceleration is not good. Feels Like Lake of Power, but may be bcoz this is Van not Car! Overall 8/10 rating. 2 points taken out for Noting giving LED headlights on 40K car, Pickup/acceleration is low and look from side is horrible (giving lines that kill Hondas sharp design). I was one of the fan of Thunderbolt 3rd row design which now they have killed. I was waiting for Toyota van to compare with Honda but Sienna for 2018 is still same one since 2011 and there is no redesign till 2019. at last Wheels looks for EXL is not modern and reminds me 2014 year wheel.
