I feel like driving a sedan and not a minivan. Super smooth ride so much improvement from previous models.

  • Parents of toddlers beware - 2018 Honda Odyssey

I have owned Honda vehicles for years and our old Odyssey was great. We were approaching 150,000 miles and loved all the new features of the new design so we purchased one day 1. We love most everything about the van with one glaring exception. We have a toddler in a rear facing car seat in the second row. Now for some strange reason Honda decided not to put a/c vents overhead in this new design. The A/c vents for 2018 were moved down low just behind the front row seats and blow back towards the rear of the van. With this deign children in rear facing car seats can not get air directed directly on them. Now we live in Florida so the heat from the son requires this. Every time we get home my sons back is sweaty. I even went to a Tint shop and had expensive ceramic based tint put all around but to no avail. Yes the tint reduced the heat coming in but you just cant match having a/c coming down directly on you. If you dont have or will never have rear facing seats you will never notice this issue and everything else about this van is great. You may find the 9speed a bit strange at first but I got used to it and now like driving the van vary much. I just cant understand why Honda would not consider the comfort of the most delicate passengers when designing a new van. I can only assume it was some cost cutting reason. By the way you will notice another cost cutting feature in the sound system of the EXL. Note they no longer have speakers in the back of the van. All the sound for the rear of the van comes from one overhead speaker. The second row is fine with this however the third row occupants can barley hear whats playing unless you fade the sound all the way back and turn it up louder than you would normally like. All and all we love the van and we like Honda but honestly the A/C oversight is really bad and we are considering getting rid of it after only 1,000 miles. Update So after months and many miles later it’s more of the same. So far it has been in for a new wiper motor as well as the power window switch. At times the engine runs ruff during warm up but only intermittently. Just recently the front left speaker started crackling during music with high higher tones and the entire body where the sliding doors meet creak when going up steep inclines. All and all not impressed. Our old Odyssey was better in many ways. Yes this one is more powerful and quieter and more fuel efficient but it’s the overall quality that has gone down hill.

  • Why I didnt buy - 2018 Honda Odyssey

I loved this van except for the black carpets. I like light colors inside and they were not available in the 2018 so, I bought a Sienna that fit the colors I like. I still like the Odessey better. I loved the way it drove and all the safety features. I like the feel of the van hugging the highway. I also like the looks of the Odessey better than the Sienna....but, being female I went with the light colors inside the van.

Got about 3200 miles on a new 18 model. We got the first one off the truck here locally, the EX-L model with Tech and Nav. We put 100K miles on the same 2011 model. So here is my assessment so far on differences and pros and cons. This is primarily a daily driver for my wife, but I tend to drive on the long family trips. I am 61" 200 lbs and find this van is much roomier than the older models. I would say another 4" or so in legroom, much more head and shoulder room too. I can nearly straighten my left leg in the new van. The arm rests are bit wider as well. You can put the seat back farther as well. The touch screen technology is so much better than the older van. It is in HD color, easy to use, tons of options on it. Fuel efficiency is much better. We just drove a 6 hour trip, full load with 5 people and got over 29 MPG. The van is running 4-5 MPG better on both highway and around town than the older model. Also, the ride is much much quieter, this is very noticeable. The engine puts out a bit more acceleration as well when needed. I also like the fog lights standard on this model, not so on the older ones. The middle seats can tilt back some which the kids like on long trips. The blind spot monitor and other safety features like shin airbags are other nice add ons. Overall, the van looks better, definitely seems like they lengthened it maybe another 6", its roomier for sure. Electric start is nice, also the shifters are now buttons which take some getting used to but work pretty well. The kids like the extra plugs, USB, etc. The rear tailgate goes up higher if needed which I like as I used to hit my head on the old one. As far as Cons, the 9 speed transmission can be a bit shifty and low speeds. Again, this just takes some getting used to. Also, all the safety features like lane monitoring, cruise control, etc. are very unique from what I am used to and take some reading up on. Basically, if the van moves out of the lane and hits the lines, it will lightly vibrate and correct back into the lane. On a tight road, this can get annoying. Also, when cruise control is on, if you approach a car in front of you, it will automatically slow down. A bit annoying as you may just prefer to change lanes without adjusting speed. Just some little nuances. Overall, been happy with the purchase. Van is quiet, more comfortable, looks more appealing, gets good fuel efficiency, has more room, and has Honda safety and reliability. We had to pay sticker but got a good trade and got color combos we wanted.

  • Technology disaster - 2018 Honda Odyssey

Buy at your own risk, Honda blames everything on Apple, Bluetooth skips, siri does not connect, messages I haven’t seen or sent one, screen goes black and does not respond or goes blue with a loud beep while you are driving. Honda dealer wanted to just get rid of me and helped in no way after I spent 50k on a car that is most expensive in their lion. The armrest movement is put on reverse and Honda says everything is fine, instead of going down from level position, it goes up pointing towards sky. What good is it that? No car seat position can utilize that mode of armrest, don’t know who tried it? Pretty bad attitude from Honda towards customers that bought their most expensive vehicle. The AAC is a hit or miss, not consistent. The car never brakes on AAC mode but flashed for me to brake. I turned it off after that. Lane keeping does not work below 45mph and even above it misses the lanes all the time, pretty dangerous to depend upon.

  • FEEL CHEATED - 2018 Honda Odyssey

No compass. Really! We wrote a check for more than $41,000 to own a 2018 Odyssey minivan that Honda purposely put on the market with no compass, a simple tool standard in every decent vehicle since about the dawn of internal combustion. Shame on them. We wouldnt have bought this van if we had known it didnt have a compass. Some people writing online say Honda is manipulative, trying to force people to pay thousands more for the most expensive trims to get a simple, cheap feature found on every car but low-end fleet vehicles. Honda may be manipulative, or have no regard for customers, or just plain stupid. The people at my Honda dealership were as shocked as me at the absence of a compass. I would trade the moon roof, which Ill probably never open, or leather seats for a compass. I really wanted to feel good about owning a new minivan with many electronic and safety features, but now I simply seen a large gray machine in the garage with no compass. Im sure Honda could retrofit this minivan to include a compass if they cared. In the meantime Ill use my old Boy Scout compass and wish I had bought a Toyota.

  • Cheaply made. - 2018 Honda Odyssey

I had 2015 Sienna which was about to end Lease. Family thought of moving into something else after owning two Siennas and shape staying the same. Well leased Honda Odyssey exl 2018 for 499 a month 0 down. no doubt it does have some good safety features more than Sienna but the ride is rough than Toyota. Exterior cheaply made . front and rear bumper not aligned correctly. Had to go back to dealer to have it aligned. Over there I saw other odyssey with same issue. My rear window started making clicking noise . they stated loose connection on a new car with 100 miles. Interior has no compass, seat doesnt go high enough, cheap interior material, went location on side so stupid, no place to stow the middle seat, sliding doors jam, third row has only cup holders, no compartment, no speakers, no sunshade and the window is fixed so you cant open for ventilation!!!. Shame on Honda, my first and last Honda. If my family wouldnt insist, I wouldve never leased it. Lets see what happens later.
