  • 94 - year of the BEAST - 1994 Ford Explorer

I have heard negative things about Explorers but in five years have not experienced them. I get 23 mpg hwy, which makes it the perfect travel car on my Ohio-Tenn trips for school. It conquered everything I threw at it as an immature 1st time 4wd owner (seriously Im surprised this car is not stranded in a certain mudpit in Middle Tennessee). The most comfortable car, will haul it all, routine work - brakes, belts, etc. is dirt cheap (and I am a poor college student!). I have 155,000 on it now, a third of which is my doing, without a headache. As expected, transmission wear was easily solved with Lucas trans-fix additive. An $8 bottle has worked miracles for 17k miles.

  • Best vehicle Ive ever had. - 1994 Ford Explorer

My 94 Explorer has been the best vehicle I have ever owned. When it had 144,000 miles on it, I drove it cross country, from CA to NC, hauling a load inside. It now has a little over 148,000 miles on her, and she runs like a champ. Small windshield leak, and axle seals are staring to go, but other than that, an awesome vehicle.

  • Wish Id bought the extended warranty - 1994 Ford Explorer

I bought it used. With all the necessary repairs, the extended warranty would have helped. So much expensive repair work was needed that I would have been better off buying a new SUV. 4 wheel drive went out soon after purchase, engine sensor was very expensive, door wouldnt open and another door handle was going too, transmission went out too. Add me to the list of folks who will never buy another Ford product.

An awesome SUV, great off road and in the snow. Only qualms are fuel economy, stiff ride, and lack of power.

This vehicle has a nice balance between off road functionality and on road drivability. The Interior is comfortable as well as versatile. The 4.0L V-6 is a little underpowered, but highly reliable, and does supply enough torque for moderate towing. The SUV has a good turning radius, and visibility allowing comfortable driving in tight areas and heavy traffic.

  • Head On Crunched in Half - 1994 Ford Explorer
    By -

I bought the Explorer in July of 05. I drove it and had problems with the brakes and it going through tires much too fast, a bad battery cable, etc. It used oil. The dealership I bought it from said they had completely checked the vehicle out and it was in great condition. On Thanksgiving as I was driving to my aunts, a man in a Dodge Caravan hit me head on at full speed on the front driver side and completely crunched the entire front end into my feet and body. I became encased in the metal and steering wheel. I was cut out of the car and life flighted with 2 broken legs, head injury, lacerated spleen and liver. A month after I cant walk or stand.

  • Best Vehicle I Have Ever Owned - 1994 Ford Explorer

Ive had my explorer for about 4 years and i love the hell out of it. i got it from my grandma, so it was babied its entire life until i got it. I race it, i four wheel it, and daily drive it. Stock motor, never touched, trans rebuilt about 75k ago. Shifts strong, and runs like a racecar. i hit rev limiter all the time in it and the engine never skips a beat. i would highly reccomend this as a first car... it can stand up to the abuse that even the most rambunxious teenager can throw at it. only started to rust this winter, living on the washington coast hasnt hurt it one bit.

  • Outstanding - 1994 Ford Explorer

Over a quarter of a million miles and still going strong. The first 4 years pulled a 24 boat every weekend in the summer. Have only used Mobil 1 oil in it. 4 sets of tires, 3 sets of front pads and 2 sets on the rear. 1 alternator, 2 batteries. Replaced the hoses and belts for the 1st time this year just because of the age. No rust on the vehicle and we live in Wisconsin.

We bought this vehicle to move across the country with, and in hopes that it would last us without any problems for the 3 years I am in law school. 2 years down, 1 to go and the only thing of any consequence was replacing the brakes! Very satisfied with this vehicle.

  • Satifsfied, would buy another one - 1994 Ford Explorer
    By -

Purchased this vehicle used in 1997 with 36,000 miles.. It has been a reliable vehicle overall. It now has 138,000+ and still going strong. It doesnt use oil, Transmission is still original (serviced every 40,000 miles). New radiator this past year and waterpump. Had a problem with water temp. gauge in 2003 new circuit board fixed problem. Only complaint is auto hubs went bad (plastic components) and would cost approx.$800.00 to fix from Ford dealer. Had manual hubs installed for half the price.
