  • Wish Id bought the extended warranty - 1994 Ford Explorer

I bought it used. With all the necessary repairs, the extended warranty would have helped. So much expensive repair work was needed that I would have been better off buying a new SUV. 4 wheel drive went out soon after purchase, engine sensor was very expensive, door wouldnt open and another door handle was going too, transmission went out too. Add me to the list of folks who will never buy another Ford product.

  • explorer experience was terrible - 1994 Ford Explorer

after buying what was rated by CR as a "good buy," Ive had nothing but trouble from this 1994 sport model. The undercarriage is rusting out, the tranny went out twice, the ignition module has been replaced twice, windshield washer motors replaced, ac gives out, emissions equipment no longer will pass smog requirements and so on... Without a warranty I would have paid twice for this vehicle, oh did I mention that I had to replace the firestones before the recall was established?

  • 94 Explorer - 1994 Ford Explorer

Purchased used at two years old with 30,000 miles. Drove very well with no problems for 3 years, then all hell seemed to break out with numerous problems. Auto was very well maintained with all required maintenance. At 6 yrs old, driver electric seat shorted out and caught fire. At 5 yrs old, driver seat seatback metal handle broke off leaving seatback stuck in remaining position forever (found corrosion/rust on the metal joint). Overall, have been treated very poorly by Ford service depts.

  • Get a wagon instead - 1994 Ford Explorer

Like many others, I fell for the SUV craze and regretted it. Sloppy handling, bouncy ride, noisy, gas guzzler, weak brakes, outdated styling, cumbersome 4WD system that never worked. Reliability was terrible and was the reason I got rid of it, everything was always breaking on this piece of junk. I got a VW Passat wagon to replace it and never looked back.

  • ford exploder - 1994 Ford Explorer

If your planning to by a family vehichle, this is not the one to buy. We named my truck the exploder because as soon as you fix one major thing another happens. If you have lots of money and nothing to do with it this is the vehichle for you.

  • stay away - 1994 Ford Explorer

overall, this explorer has lasted me a year,so far, and its been in the shop three times already. hubs went bad, wheel seals went bad, new motor put in & its now needing another new motor and a tranny. these are for the money bags of the us because youll need it to keep it on the road. oh and dont take them on the interstate b/c the engine light comes on frequently! nowhere else!

  • dont buy - 1994 Ford Explorer

I had to pay for this vehicle basically twice. I put 2 transmittions and one clutch in it. The vehicle still rides rough. Has many other minor problems. Overall, worst vehicle I ever bought.

  • Never Again! - 1994 Ford Explorer
    By -

Interior door panels - all plastic - crack and break under normal use - door handles fall off, engine leaks oil at 70000 miles despite routine oil changes, oem brakes, mastercylinder and front suspension all replaced at 80k mi, engine does not hold compression when pulling my boat - 3400lbs - vehicle rated with 5000lb tow capacity - No Way!!

  • Needs Work - 1994 Ford Explorer

My first and perhaps last SUV. The 94 Explorer handles poorly and fuel economy is non-existent. It seems to have been designed to do nothing very well.
