This is my second Maxima. The first one was a 1992 that got T-boned by a full sized pick-up truck. I was impressed by the structural integrity and believe it saved my life. There was no hesitation on another Maxima as a replacement vehicle. The car is the right size with good interior room and comfort. The engine is deceptively quick when accelerating hard and I do think of the car as a Japanese BMW in terms of performance, comfort, and handling. I rated the fuel economy as a ten because I switched to Mobil synthetic oil and filter and highway mileage went from a true factory rated 29 miles per gallon to 31. In town mileage remains at 24 on average. Want to use synthetic transmission oil too.

This Nissan was my 3rd product, and it will be my last. Although nothing major went wrong, little stuff did. Examples, engine is so heavy, I had to replace all four tires by 20K miles; found out just before the lease turn in that I had had a bad throttle from the first day I drove it off the lot and it wasnt covered under warranty; a 35K miles, the trunk is already rusting.

This was my second Nissan Maxima SE. I had no problems with the vehicle. I truly recommend it. I only had to replace the brakes, tires, and battery once. Very good car. I am looking to sell it now and buy a new one.

  • Nice Car - 1999 Nissan Maxima

Bought my Maxima new 4 years ago. Im pretty tall and this was one of only a few cars with moon roof where I sat comfortably. Found out the alignment was bad after 25,000 miles. Replaced the Goodyear Eagle tires with Michelins and significantly reduced road noise. No other real maintenance issues other than warranty repair on a bad air bag sensor.

I always look forward to driving this car. I love the way it handles. I joke around about this car wanting to take a road trip because it feels like its anxious to go! Am amazed at how quiet the engine is while idling. Plus, I love the body style. I think Im in love!!

I bought the car in 06 with 54k on it. It was perfect for two years. Now there is 90k miles on it, and all of my coils need to be replaced, along with all spark plugs. At the dealer they charged $1400.

  • Maximum Driving Fun, Minimum Reliability - 1999 Nissan Maxima

Bought My Max in 2005 w/118K (now 214K). I have averaged about 1000-1500K a year in repairs. The exceptional VQ V6 and transmission combo in these older model maximas is even better then the 2004 Avalon legendary V6 I recently purchased to replace it. Problem is everything around it is falling apart. Id fix one probem and two more show up. Id fix two problems and four more show up. You get the idea. Whats more, I got tired of having to feed it premium gas-tried regular, but the knocking sounded like someone was trying to break in to my house. Despite my gripes, I still own her. Im hooked on the powertrain. Ill keep it through winter and then its good bye.

  • Extremely reliable car at 169K miles - 1999 Nissan Maxima

I bought my Maxima GLE used in 02 with 35K miles, and it was the best used car decision I ever made. It is now at 169K miles and still going strong. It has never needed a major repair.

I bought my 99 Maxima SE Limited to replace my first car that I used through high school and one year of college (a 96 Saturn SL2 Premium). The Maxima was the short list. I purchased mine with 59,858 miles on it in July of 2006 and now currently have 72,562 miles. Ive had no unscheduled maintenance and have only had one major replacement, the exhaust system. My Nissan dealership has serviced the vehicle with great care at each scheduled maintenance. The performance, styling, and build quality is impeccable. Nissan engineers have executed every detail perfectly on this vehicle. The engine is smooth, refined, and aggressive. The Maxima is Nissans flagship for a reason.
