  • Perhaps a lemon? - 1999 Nissan Maxima

Overall this Maxima has been one of my favorite cars, but it hasnt been without some quirky mechanical defects that are just dumbfounding, including a fuel problem where I am only able to fill it up a third of a gallon at a time before it overflows. Several other issues have made me think twice about a future purchase, even though Ive had a lot of fun with this car.

  • poor gas mileage in Fl - 1999 Nissan Maxima

I have had nothing but fuel system issues with my two maximas. I purchased the first one in 1995 and after 70,000 miles the engine would shut down in the middle of the road. I purchased a 1999 and after 90,000 miles I am having major fuel problems. I have to put a bottle of fuel system cleaner in every fill up just to stop the rough idling...

  • ReliableEngine/Trans,thats where it ends - 1999 Nissan Maxima

Bought this car w/118000 on the clock w/out concern about reliability. In the past 3 1/2yrs, the engine and trans. have lived up to expectations (161500). However, Ive had to replace the alternator, 2 oxygen sensors, knock sensor, starter, tie rod, oil pressure switch, belt tensioner, two axles. I know w/this kind of mileage there is an expectation to replace parts, but this seems excessive. Now Im looking at having to replace the front struts and rear bushings. What prevents me from putting this car out to pasture is the engine/trans, quality/look and user friendly interior as well as the leather seats, moon roof and the Bose sound system.

  • Solid Performer - 1999 Nissan Maxima

Bought a white- pearl coat automatic 99SE but w/ an interesting twist. It has cloth heated seats! Actually better than leather because it heats up faster. Breaks and muffler system are OUTRAGEOUSLY priced to fix. Overall it is fun to drive, the payment does not kill you and it is just a very solid performer. A Stick might be more fun!

  • I have mixed feelings about this car. - 1999 Nissan Maxima

I had put 17,000 miles on this car,it has 67,000 miles on it so far. Problems: 1)Nissan Ignition Immobilizer system failed(car would not start)($ 140) 2)Fake interior wood trim started to deteriorate due to ultraviolet radiation from the Sun($ 235 online). 3)Rough idle,I will probably have to replace ALL the six fuel injectors which cost about $800. My parents own a 99 Suzuki Esteem and a 99 Honda Accord EX V6 for more than two years and NEVER had a single problem with them, thats what I call reliability.(The Honda Accord needs no major maintenance until 100,000 miles).

  • Couldnt ask for more - 1999 Nissan Maxima

I bought this car sight unseen using an online auction. I did a lot of research. I was pleased with it when I went to pick it up and have remained so even after three years. It originally had 68,000 miles and now has 116,000. The only problems have been: 1) one coil pack went bad, and I replaced it myself (about $45) 2) the automatic temp a/c wants to cool even when it is cool outside. You can still get heat if you run it up to 85. If the temp is cold outside, it works normally. 3) Ive had to replace both c.v. joints because of boot failure. Both were after 100,000 miles, so I kind of expected that. The joints were not making any noise, but the technician suggested replacement anyway.

  • It has been through it all - 1999 Nissan Maxima
    By -

Okay so I purchased this car when I got a job as a client manager. This required me to drive the vehicle roughly 200-300 miles per day. That lasted for one year. I was expecting with a vehicle this old, to have to put some money back into it in the form of repairs...but with just over 200k miles (25,000 of which is mine) the only problem I have had to repair was a broken starter. It has an oil leak but nothing that is not impossible to live with. I love this car and it has been incredibly reliable.

  • 1999 nissan rocks - 1999 Nissan Maxima
    By -

Original owner. The only 2 complaints are rear caliper froze with 18,000 miles??? IGNITION COILS will go . Mine went after 4 years 3 months. 3 months after warranty. After calling around found it to be a major problem on all 1999 maximas. Beware if you buy used .

  • 130K miles NOTHING NEEDED - 1999 Nissan Maxima
    By -

Yup, 130K and I havent needed anything. I bought the car from a used dealer and it was pretty thrashed. Car had been burglarized, and who know about the previous owner. Car still had no problems at 130K (I bought it at 100K). Awesome car with an awesome engine. Most reliable car on the face of the planet. There is nothing that ever needs to be fixed, nor is there any preventative maintence. My friend has one with 260K miles and all he had to do was have the automatic transmission rebuilt, and he redlines all day long.
