This Year's Model Updates:

Hyundai's Elantra sedan was redesigned last year, but the big news for 2002 is the release of the GT version, an all-new five-door hatchback that boasts such upscale standard equipment as a leather-trimmed interior, European suspension tuning, four-wheel disc brakes, 15-inch wheels, foglamps and a CD player. In September 2002, Hyundai announced that it had misstated the horsepower ratings for all of the models in its lineup -- the Elantra is now rated at 135 hp, rather than 140. To compensate, the company is offering owners (of 2000 models and newer) three options: 10 years of roadside assistance, 6-year/72,000-mile basic warranty coverage or 12-year/120,000-mile powertrain coverage.

Pros:
  • Solidly built, powerful engine for its class, plenty of standard features, ultra-low price tag.
Cons:
  • Funky front styling details.

I bought my car new and have had little to no problems with it. I have replaced the normal items like tires, belts, etc. I have owned 2 Hyundais and both cars I have over 200,000 miles on. Will buy again

Car rides really smooth, handles sharp, and comes with every option you could possibly want, plus looks better than any other car in its price range. If you compare this car to any other one in its class, it will win by a landslide, no contest.

  • Loving my Elantra - 2002 Hyundai Elantra

This car has been awesome!. I got this used with 8k miles for less than $10K and now it has almost 100k miles. Never had a mechanical problem. Performance and pickup is the best in his class. I love the handling, the exterior design and interior space. Could have more interior features. I went to the dealer this weekend to have a full checkup (just in case I want to sell it) and they found nothing at all. So Im thinking on keeping it for another 3 or 4 years, it depreciates too much (because the brand and not the quality), now is worth around 3K.

  • Very Satisfied - 2002 Hyundai Elantra

I took my new Elantra GT on a long road trip from Central Illinois to Vancouver, BC and back this July and had absolutely no problems. My other adult passenger, my two 50-lb dogs and myself were comfortable throughout the trip. The car cruised easily and quickly along the highway. I experienced very little driver fatigue. My average gas mileage for the trip was between 28 and 30 mpg.

  • OK value and practical car - 2002 Hyundai Elantra

Pros: easy on the eye very roomy interior for smallish car with nice leather nice suspension that handles bumps very well, gives impression of heavier and higher end car. Cons: Engine runs very hot, maybe inefficient design since gas mileage below average sheet metal very soft (thin gauge?) and prone to dings and dents very uncomfortable front seats for interstate driving headlights burn out too often sun roof causes annoying hums and air pressure waves when used. I would not recommend this car although it is average and of OK value for its price. My advice if you buy one is stay well clear of Hyundai dealer who scam you by calling every 3,ooo miles a "service" at $100+

  • Best in class - 2002 Hyundai Elantra

The Hyundai Elantra GT is everything it was purported to be in 95% of the reviews I read. Mine has the two available options packages, power sunroof and Traction Control System with ABS. Many standard features including A/C; Leather seats, steering wheel and door trim; AM/FM/CD; 4 wheel disk brakes; side airbags; and many other items. Good handling on various road surfaces. Have driven the car hard and fast. Lots of power available when engine is mated to the manual transmission. Finding a GT with the manual was difficult, especially one fully loaded with the chianti paint. The only negative issues are minor. Overall this car is hard to beat.

  • Not bad at all! - 2002 Hyundai Elantra

Great machine for the buck. This weekend at a local dealer, a few of basic model can be had for $4,000 off the MSRP. Incredible bargain.

  • Low price... Awesome car! - 2002 Hyundai Elantra

This is THE car. Try and find a 2002 Japanese car for the same price and features as a Hyundai and youll be suprised how much MORE they cost. The hyundai just feels all around better. I test drove Mazda, Honda, Toyota, Dodge, Ford, and Chevy compact cars and this one beats them all. I wouldnt even consider this a compact car. My sister has a 2000 Maxima and this elantra has more room in it and feels more comfortable than the Maxima. The sunroof is also a nice touch. I recommend this car above any other unles you just like paying more for the name a car carries rather than its value.

  • Fabulous car - 2002 Hyundai Elantra

Ive had my civic for 5 years and was reluctant to go through the car-buying process. After hours and hours online and in dealerships, looking at Corollas, Civics, and Focuses, my fiances brother recommended a Hyundai - - he got an Elantra GLS. As soon as we stepped foot on the lot I noticed the GT, and as soon as I sat in it I fell in love! We ran home to do some online research -- this car has gotten some great reviews -- and went back to haggle over a price. The guy was actually great to work with, they took our first offer in the low $14s. I LOVE IT! And cant believe there arent more of these on the road.

Love this car, owned a 01 Hyundai Accent, too small for someone who is 61" So decided to upgrade. Not really happy to know I could have gotten a better deal then I got. Paid 13,600 but considering I had a trade-in, I guess I got a good deal! I didnt go to several dealerships, should have, oh well! Car drives, handles awesome! LOOOOOVE Cruise, Keyless Entry, and something I have never had on any car of mine, AN ALARM!!!
