Overview & Reviews
For the 2000 Ford Explorer, a color-keyed, two-spoke leather-wrapped steering wheel (with auxiliary audio, climate and speed control) is now standard on Eddie Bauer models. XLT Sport/Eddie Bauer/Limited models with 5.0-liter V8s receive a trailer-towing package as standard equipment. The XL is available only for fleet sales, and the XLS replaces the XL Appearance as the base retail model.
- A commanding view of the road, multiple engine choices, one of the most comfortable and commodious cabins in its class.
- Trucklike ride, poor gas mileage with V8 engine.

Faulty power windows and locks - 2000 Ford Explorer
By SUVDRIVEN - May 4 - 3:39 pmIve owned 2 Explorers over the last 15 years and both Explorers power window and door lock motors burned out in both! Not a coincidence. There is definitely something wrong with the way these are built. I like the Explorer and would keep purchasing them if that problem was resolved. i dont trust Ford to get that right.

I love the beast-ness of it! - 2000 Ford Explorer
By L0V3 MY 3XPL0R3R! - March 4 - 9:16 amI love my Ford Explorer and the V8 engine! Im capable of going shopping, grocery shopping, moving, or whatever in it without worrying about not having enough room! Im able to travel in snow well without any problems, maybe with ice but who doesnt?! The 4WD is AWESOME! I would love to get the newer Explorer, why wouldnt I love it? The only thing I hate is the minor problems with it...the rear window wiper blade doesnt wipe-it wipes maybe 3 inches of what it should, the gas of course, and just minor things, which have been worked out. Its built to be awesome and have that "Im a bad ass" feel to it. I wouldnt trade it in for anything less- even though gas prices are tempting me :[

New transmission - 2000 Ford Explorer
By no more explorers - December 22 - 10:00 amWe have a 2000 XLS. We have had to deal with the poor gas mileage which was expected. However, there were unexpected problems. We had several little complaints like it took a long time to warm up in the winter so the heat took a long time, wipers never worked great in the front or rear. The biggest complaint was that it needed a new transmission at 40,000 miles. There was no explanation given as to why a low mielage vehicle needed this work. Appraently it is a common thing with Explorers. We have sworn off Fords and bought a Dodge Caravan. The dealer was great to work with, which is good since we were there so often.

Happy Owner - 2000 Ford Explorer
By Ron Williams - November 24 - 12:19 pmI bought my 2000 Explorer Limited just before the intro of the 2001. I average 18.4 in town and 20 highway and have 135,000 miles on it. I went thru the tire recall and a couple other minor recalls, but have throughly enjoyed this SUV. Its been garage kept and looks nearly as good today as the day a bought it. I really take care of my SUV as it is my second most expensive investment after my house. Im not happy that the value has dropped so badly, but thats American for you. Ill drive this thing until either it or I dies. If I had my time to do over, I probably would have gotten the AWD.

Where did you get your SUV? - 2000 Ford Explorer
By inquisitive - October 9 - 10:00 amAn SUV is not a mercades benz. If you want comfort, buy a car not a truck. I love my Explorer and have had several in the past 5 years. No breakdowns, no problems and great maintenance plan. As for offroad, it handles perfectly fine and has plenty of clearance. If you want to bounce around like a kangaroo, buy a Monster Truck with poofy tires. I stand 62" and get claustraphoic in vehicles. The Ford Explorer has more room in the cab compared to the Chevy-Blazer and Jeep- Cherokee. As for carrying room. We have 2 large dogs and the truck area is plenty of space for travelling gear as well as dogs.

Safe SUV - 2000 Ford Explorer
By Maddox - October 8 - 2:00 amRegardless of what the media says about the Ford Explorer, I stand by its design. Unfortunately I was in a multiple rollover accident in my first Ford Explorer (2000 model) and received nary a scratch! Felt like I was in an amusement park ride as we tumbled over and over. Thats a good vehicle that can sustain the damage that we did with no injuries. My 5-month old infant son in the back thought it was fun. Theres no question in my mind that the Explorer is an outstanding vehicle.

Not too Bad - 2000 Ford Explorer
By Warning I will Race - May 28 - 10:00 amOnly minor problems with the car such as rear windshield wiper motor and tail light replacement. But it was done quickly and was covered under warranty. I have gone on several long trips and been off roading several times and the explorer does great. Only at high speeds does the explorer rattle a little bit (85-95). All-in- all, this car has been great for everyday driving, trips, camping, off roading, towing and even sleeping in :)

Bad Mileage "Gas waister" - 2000 Ford Explorer
By Carlos - April 10 - 11:12 amI read the specs on this car and suppose to give you 16mpg city and 21mpg hwy. But every time I fill the tank I reset the odometer and I always get only about 10mpg city. If some one had the same problem I like to know how to fix it. Carlos

Good car, few faults - 2000 Ford Explorer
By Scott - March 13 - 12:11 pmI bought this car 2 months ago, and have had nothing but problems. The next morning after i bought it, somehow there was a hole in the exhaust and i needed a completely new one. Dealer replaced it after much arguing, and now my check engine and check suspension light are on, I believe i need a new mass air flow sensor and a ball joint. On top of this, my ABS sensor failed, and it doesnt work. Apparently this truck passed safety, but it definitely shouldnt have.
