For 2001, improved cloth and velour interior materials come standard in the GL and GLS trim. Side curtain airbags that offer head protection for front and rear passengers are introduced this year, and steering wheel controls for the audio and cruise systems are available on GLS/GLX trim models. Optional 17-inch wheels and a sport suspension can be had on GLX models and GLS models with the 1.8T or VR6 engine. The Wolfsburg Edition returns as a limited-edition model in early 2001 -- standard features include sport suspension, bolstered sport seats and 16-inch BBS wheels. All models get redesigned cupholders and a trunk entrapment release button. A wagon arrives in the spring of 2001.

Driving a dumpster - 2001 Volkswagen Jetta
By shastanova - November 26 - 9:39 amI love the way this car drives but its a piece of junk. Interior must be made from recycled bottles cause everything breaks. Armrest, glove box, cigarette tray, overhead light switch, control for sideview mirrors, window motor, headliner, doorliner, speakers and more. Outside falls apart also, side markers have water in them. headlights are foggy. paint job is crap. Grille vents fall out. Antennae rusted and fell apart. Engine is only good thing. Everything else sucks. Had to put in new turbo$2500, 2 timing belts $1450, fix A/C $750, Pvc valve and intake $700, Glow plug relay $300, Window motor& regulator $750. Drive it of a cliff before you spend all this money. all this before 130,000

Now I know why they say - 2001 Volkswagen Jetta
By necat - October 23 - 10:00 amthis was one of the biggest mistakes i have ever made i had traded my 2000 civic for this Jetta that was made in Mexico . i have 36000 miles on it since then the car has had its share of brake problems, window problems i.e. fallig down and electrical problems i.e. dummy lights coming on, radio problems blinker problems. I would advise people to understand that they will have plenty of trouble with this car.

Save Your Money - 2001 Volkswagen Jetta
By JettaNoWay - August 15 - 10:00 amI have a 2001 with every option. After 8,000 miles had to get new transmission. Next problem the lights, I have replaced every bulb in the car all before a year was up. The newest problem turn signal relay went out. I have heard of problems with the electrical and windows falling down and with the latest problems I expect for those things to occur next. Overall this car is a joke. Interior is made for short people only, very uncomfortable seats after any lengthy ride. Leather interior is already changing color and deteriorating and the "clear coat" is already coming off.

By Erica - May 21 - 11:51 pmIts very costly to repair and once it breaks down once will break down multiple times in a year. A bought this car when it had 50000 first thing that went out was my transmission, had to replace my radiator, starter cranked, my started melted on to my battery, cooling system, my air conditioner. My advice is get it check first to know whats wrong before you buy it I have spent $6000 in repairs have only had it for 4 years its not a good buy. Bumper is too low also!

By Jettasucks - April 29 - 10:00 amI own a 2001 Volkswagon Jetta GLX. WHile the car was under warranty there were no problems. Literally within 100 miles out of the warranty everything broke. The heated seats were the first to go. Then an a/c vent. The center console clip. Window clips were recalled. Once I had that fixed, my door locks went out. ($300+) The check engine light stays on in my car. Everytime I have it repaired, the very next day something else breaks. One word for anyone considering purchasing this car, RUN AWAY!!!!!!!

POS Car - 2001 Volkswagen Jetta
By rob a - February 8 - 10:00 am500 miles clutch master replaced, 5,000 miles water pump replaced, 10,000 miles power windows replaced, 12,000 miles climate control repaired, 20,000 interior plastic trim falling off, 25,000 new rear brakes and rotors, 32,000 engine coil being replaced. Everytime I need a repair I have to call 5 or 6 vws so that I dont have to wait over a week for an appointment. This car absolutely sucks and I will be getting rid of it asap. DO NOT BUY THIS POS. You have been warned.

wont buy another! - 2001 Volkswagen Jetta
By setaglm - August 25 - 1:43 ama.m. radio went out at about 45k $600 dealer quote to replace. the transmission literally fell out before 25k. the passanger side mirror defrost has never worked though i have had it replaced a couple of times. the sunroof drain clogs periodically and starts dripping into the car via the interior lights. a can open is required for anyone over 5 to get in and out of the back seat. interior coating peels constantly. armrest storage latch snaps off randomly (4 times) the front bumper catches or snags on parking curbs and rips. diesal fuel has remained much higher than premium unleaded defeating the noise for mileage trade. v.w. floor mats replaced a number of times only to fall apart quickly.

I have had to replace the A/C sensor, fuel sensor and the best of all the timing belt broke at 72,000 miles and it is supposed to last up to 105,000. They never wanted to recognized the damage so the cost to fix it was $4,600. Only 50% of the actual car value. As a car: this vehicle is not worth it! As a investment: Volkswagen has the worst customer service: They never help (just lie) Think first before you buy one.

By Charles Clingman - March 16 - 2:00 amThis 2001 Jetta GLS VR6 has been a nightmare since it was purchased new. Repair costs are 3 times US made car. Car has had repeated problems like 5 electric window motor problems. The dealer had the car for a total of 6 weeks trying to diagnose and repair a problem, and finally had to bring in a factory rep to repair. That repair was over $1500.00! Car has locked up in Park twice requiring a tow to dealer. It has had numerous problems of rapid acceleration while sitting idle. A major safety hazard. Car is made in Mexico so that should tell one to stay clear of this headache. If you buy one of these VW Jettas you may die in it!
