This Year's Model Updates:

For 2001, improved cloth and velour interior materials come standard in the GL and GLS trim. Side curtain airbags that offer head protection for front and rear passengers are introduced this year, and steering wheel controls for the audio and cruise systems are available on GLS/GLX trim models. Optional 17-inch wheels and a sport suspension can be had on GLX models and GLS models with the 1.8T or VR6 engine. The Wolfsburg Edition returns as a limited-edition model in early 2001 -- standard features include sport suspension, bolstered sport seats and 16-inch BBS wheels. All models get redesigned cupholders and a trunk entrapment release button. A wagon arrives in the spring of 2001.

Pros:
  • Solid build quality, rich interior materials, loads of features, available turbo and V6 engines.
Cons:
  • Cookie-cutter Euro-copy sheet metal, bigger standard-features list means bigger base price.

  • Great Sporty and Fun to Drive Car - 2001 Volkswagen Jetta
    By -

Had my 2001 Volkswagen Jetta GLS Wolfsburg for just over three months now. It is execptionaly agile and quick of the start. Its very fun to drive. I love the turbo engine. I have had no major problems with this car yet. Of course, the engine light came on the day I bought it, I just took it back and replaced sensor and it has been great ever since. I had a Honda Civic before and thought this would use lot more gas but can get 32 mpg highway if I dont push it over 80 mph. This is one of the best cars that Ive owned

  • Fun, but... - 2001 Volkswagen Jetta

I had 3 major complaints. 1st, from day one the car had many unidentified interior squeaks and rattles that the dealer couldnt/wouldnt fix. 2nd, the 150 hp 1.8t is not a very powerful motor, but it was always enough to make the front wheels break free, causing a nasty, jarring hop under hard acceleration. 3rd, the damn check engine light was on for the last 10000 miles I owned the car. The dealer was always good about fixing whatever was wrong for free, but the light never stayed off for more than a week. In spite of all that, it was a lot of fun, and it always got me where I needed to go.

  • Works good for some but not for everyone - 2001 Volkswagen Jetta

Its very costly to repair and once it breaks down once will break down multiple times in a year. A bought this car when it had 50000 first thing that went out was my transmission, had to replace my radiator, starter cranked, my started melted on to my battery, cooling system, my air conditioner. My advice is get it check first to know whats wrong before you buy it I have spent $6000 in repairs have only had it for 4 years its not a good buy. Bumper is too low also!

  • Call it a VW Lemon Instead - 2001 Volkswagen Jetta

Ill like my Jetta but heres why Im selling it: Month 3: the rear brake lights blew out (look around at Jettas others are driving, youll notice the same in most). Month 4: O2 sensor blew out. Month 6: O2 sensor I replaced blew out. Month 10: engine wouldn’t start (something about some fuse?). Month 16: left back brake worn out, grinded the rotator Month 23: front right signal and left front head lamp blew out at the same time -- Folks, the repairmen gave me the parts that blew out and they were BURNED TO A CRISP Month 24: I’m selling the car

  • Volkswagen Service is HORRIBLE! - 2001 Volkswagen Jetta
    By -

This was my 1st brand new car and VW has ruined it for me. Although the Jetta appears to be a great car, the service is horrible. Ive had a lot of problems with this car. Most recent is my car stalls out of nowhere. Im driving & all of a sudden it comes to a complete stop & my engine light & EPC light come on. Ive taken it to VW 4 times & they cannot figure it out. The worst part is that they are very rude & nasty about it. I have been to 3 different dealershipS in the NY area & have had NO LUCK. Do not go to New Country VW in Greenwich CT, Mayer VW in Larchmont NY or CityLine VW in Bronx NY.

I am utterly frustrated with my car. It has had a repeated problem of engine light issues. The turbo had to be replaced, and then it was realized most of the engine oil was stuck in the turbo inter-cooler. I have been to the dealer 6 times since December 2004 - April 2005. My Air-Sensor has been replaced multiple times. I worry each day if I will be hanging out with my service representatives, whom I know all by first name.

  • Problems - 2001 Volkswagen Jetta
    By -

The car has had many electrical problems. The cheap battery left me stranded, faulty switches renderd the brake lights useless, the glovebox door breaks repeatedly, and the door locks malfunction. Most of this occured while under warranty, but it still occurs now that the car is out of warranty. Of course, fixing these issues is quite expensive even though I consider them manufacturer defects.

  • awesome car - 2001 Volkswagen Jetta

this is my 2nd vw. i had a 99.5 jetta 2.0 as my 1st car and loved it except for it was to slow.great on gas though. i later got a bmw 323i and kind of liked it but not as much as the jetta so i got rid of it. and finally found the 01 jetta Wolfsburg. it had everything i needed, 5 speed, sport seats, turbo, 4cyl (for great mpg).i have owned it for about a year and a half.has never let me down.previous owner kept everything tight and said he never got check engine light, as of today i havent either. i have also added coilovers, APR tune (making 215hp!), forge dv valve (makes the psshh sound), 17 rims, and a Nav system, i have put about 20k miles on it without a prob. this car is awesome!!!

  • fix the problems before you buy - 2001 Volkswagen Jetta
    By -

car drives great for the most part, turbo is fun to drive but i noticed i have been getting less power off the line the past couple of months. buy the dark interior, light interior stains with anything on it, trim is peeling after a couple of months, cup holders need to be redesigned, front windows dropped five times before they figured out plastic hinges dont work, check engine light is a common feature, warranty needs to be better because parts are not cheap on this thing. i wont get one of these again.

  • I love my Jetta! - 2001 Volkswagen Jetta

I LOVE my Jetta. After owning 2 sables in a row and a Sebring, I got my 1st German engineered car . . . . I will NEVER go back! I have a 6 year old son and he can fit himself and 2 friends in the backseat, PLENTY of trunk room for the sports stuff, but I still feel like I am driving a sports car. I feel so safe in it - it is so sturdy. The transmission seems to shift hard, had it checked, they said no problem - so I guess I have just gotten used to it - but otherwise I am in love! It is a bold red with black windows, sunroof, black leather interior - awesome!
