This Year's Model Updates:

Completely redesigned, the 2009 Toyota Corolla looks much the same as last year's model but is a bit larger inside and out. Highlights on the new car include an available 2.4-liter engine and a navigation system.

Pros:
  • Smooth and controlled ride, excellent fuel economy with base 1.8-liter engine, attractive and ergonomic interior design, lengthy features list.
Cons:
  • Oddly weighted electric-assist steering, so-so gas mileage with 2.4-liter engine.

  • A proven workhorse - Love It - 2009 Toyota Corolla

Travel average 2 weeks per month Purchased used in 2010 with 14,000 miles - still gets 38 miles to the gallon highway. Removed head rests back seat folds down provides ample room for cargo. Regular maintenance except decided to have transmission flushed at 60,000 miles. Now at 68,000 the car has proven to be reliable and easy to maintain. Would buy again in a heartbeat. Oh Previously drove a Honda Civic (1983) which has 180,000 miles and still gets 34 mpg hwy. When purchasing a car expect it to last until newer models have significantly better gass mileage AND comfort.

  • 2009 Toyota Corolla it does what I want - 2009 Toyota Corolla

I disposed of a car I loved but it got 15 mpg. The Corolla is appointed much better than I expected. The interior is very roomy and sound system and airflow are fine. Gas mileage differential alone pays for 2/3 of the car payment.

  • A decent car for the money - 2009 Toyota Corolla

I just traded in a 1999 Corolla CE for a new 2009 LE. I feel the handling, acceleration, etc is about the same as the old car. On the plus side, the new car is a little larger, has less road noise and seats are a lot more comfortable. On the negative side is the new steering system. The car does seem to drift when your driving on the highway. I dont seem to notice it as much when Im driving locally on side roads, etc. Other then that it seems like a decent car for the $$.

  • Best MPG From Toyota for the $ - 2009 Toyota Corolla

I purchased for increased MPG, as my new job now requires me to drive several hundred miles per week. I did close to six months worth of research before deciding on the 09 Corolla. I have had this vehicle for about one month and 1400 miles. I have had a blast tested it in mixed driving, all city driving as well as all highway driving. My resulting MPG are much better than the advertised sticker ratings. Mixed is 35 MPG, city is 33 MPG and highway is 40 MPG. I was a little worried about going from my large SUV to a low riding economy car but the transition was easy based on great styling, ease of driving and of course the increadable MPG. Bottom line, you cant beat the fuel economy.

Had this car for nearly two years now. I drive about 30000 miles a year, mixed of highway/city driving. Only had regular inexpensive maintenance done so far with no single issue. Comfortable drive, great fuel economy and good looking car.

  • 2009 Corolla S - 2009 Toyota Corolla

This car really blew my wife and me away. We were just about to buy a Mazda 3 when we tested this lil bugger. Everything about it is great... mileage, handling, acceleration, comfort (which is important because Im a big guy!). I even have plenty of room in the back. At first I had a gripe because my right leg rubbed the center console when driving, but after a couple of days I got used to it. Now I just want to drive it all the time... too bad its my wifes car!

This is the worst car Ive ever driven. Whatever small gains you get from the electric steering assist are nullified by any small gust of wind. You cant relax in a car when youre blowing all over the highway in the slightest wind. Furthermore, the seats are doughy and unsupportive. If youve ever had lower back problems in any car, this one will bring them right back. My Volkswagen had firm, supportive seats and I forgot what it was like to have a sore back after a trip - until now. Cheap backseats too - pull on a corner when theyre "locked" and it will have enough give for you (or a criminal) to reach into the trunk. Awful creamsicle backlighting treatment on the dash too.

  • Lovin the new Corolla - 2009 Toyota Corolla

I bought my new 2008 Toyota Corolla S (red) a few days ago. I was looking for a new car, but didnt know what I wanted. I was looking at Honda, Nissan and Toyotas. I test drove an 08 Toyota Corolla and didnt like it. When I saw the 09 Corolla S, it looked real sharp! The car was smooth riding and looks sporty. This car really turns heads!! In case youre looking at the car colors on toyota.com, the colors online dont do the actual color justice. I was skeptical of the red when I found out thats the car the dealership found for me. But when I saw the car in person, it looked totally different than what that what I saw on Toyotas website. You wont be disappointed.

I was either going to buy a Yaris or the Corolla and when I drove up to the lot there was a Barcelona red Corolla and a red Yaris. The salesman thought I should get the Corolla because of the more roominess and other options. Best friend has a Yaris and he gloats how it gets better mileage but I dont think I have made a mistake in getting the Corolla. I put about fifty miles a day in it so I was looking for fuel economy and I love the style of this car. The color turns many heads and it drives great! I get about 31 miles a gallon in the winter and it goes up to 35 in the summer. Eighty percent of my driving is freeway. Its a great car.

I have only 2,000 miles on the vehicle but it performs as expected, secure, 34 mpg and a comfortable fit for 62" guy. The cruise control across the mountains of West Virginia is a little rough but expected. Id recommend this car to everyone. Got the S model as a compromise with the wife.
