This Year's Model Updates:

Since the Maxima was updated last year and is scheduled for a redesign in 2004, there are no major changes in store for the family sedan in 2003. There's a Titanium Edition package available for the SE and side airbags are now standard on GLEs.

Pros:
  • Impressively powerful V6 engine, sports car moves, availability of premium features, plenty of room for five adults.
Cons:
  • High price, rough ride quality with SE suspension.

  • 2003 Maxima - THE GREATEST EVER !!! - 2003 Nissan Maxima

Have owned 4 previous Nissan/Datsun products. This is the Best Ever!!! Fun, comfortable, spacious, and lots of power. Carried three grand children (one in a car seat) in the back with no problem. Good trunk size. Fair highway miles of about 25.5 on a 600 mile trip. Conveneint controls while driving. Have had great luck with previous products, Datsun 210 (15yrs 235,000mi), a 300ZX (Used-drove 5 yrs 160,000mi), King Cab Long Bed Pickup (18yrs 175,000mi), and currently own a Pathfinder (3yrs 70,000mi). All great. Expect great future performance with my new Maxima too.

Just got the vehicle needed somethin 2 drive to give the Spec V a rest. Max is a beautiful car rides and handles nicely. Stock stereo in my Spec V is better than stock stereo in Max (huge dissapointment opt for Bose). Ride & Handling like Spec V but a bit softer. Seats are comfortable and look of high quality. Dash materials are nice and display quality but could be softer like the Toyota Avalons. Headlamps are beautiful and makes the Max look expensive. Love the Interior/Exterior design b/c it doesnt look like somethin u would see everywhere u go. This is our second max and hopefully will be just as reliable as the 1st and the other Nissans that we have owned. The engine is a Top Notch...

I love to drive my Maxima..it is fun and fast. Whenever I feel like whinning about my carpayment, I just jump in my "baby", crank up the stereo and drive around town and all my payment shock goes out the window!!! It is all worthwhile. My friends are tired about hearing how much I love it. :-)

  • Gimme traction - 2003 Nissan Maxima

After 9 mos and 7000 miles on my 6spd SE I am pretty unhappy with the car. The shifter is extremely stiff and notchy. You have to work quickly to jam the shifter into gear or the revs drop too low and the car jerks into the next gear. The low and midrange torque is excellent. You never need to rev it up that high which is a good thing because the traction is hands down the worst Ive ever experienced. Dont even THINK about flooring this car in a turn because it will produce a lot of white smoke and very little forward motion. My overall impression is what good is all this power when the car just simply isnt fun to drive hard?

  • two words the best - 2003 Nissan Maxima

i had a 2000 altima se with leather and every option that was offered and it was awesome the only thing that was keeping me from being 100% satisfied was the lack of power in the 4 cl which at 155 hp is damn good for a 4cl but not enough for me so i got a 03 maxima se and i havent looked back. it is better than i ever dreamed power, smooth ride, and quality. i havent gotten the gas milage that was promised but.... its probly cause i cant keep my foot off the gas pedal! its an absolute blast to drive sometimes i sneak out at night after my wife is asleep and go blasting down the highway or local roads when theres no traffic i hate traffic!

TO ANYONE INTERESTED IN PURCHASING THE MAXIMA PLEASE BE AWARE THAT IT IS PRODUCED WITH ZENON HEADLIGHTS THAT HAVE BECOME EXTREMLY POPULAR TO THEIVES. I HAVE HAD THE CAR FOR SIX MONTHS AND THE HEADLIGHTS HAVE BEEN STOLEN "6" TIMES, THEY COST $750.00 PER HEADLIGHT AND $350.00 FOR THE LABOR TO BE REINSTALLED. DUE THE MATH YOU CAN BE DRIVING A MERCEDES

  • Disappointed - 2003 Nissan Maxima

Well, I chose the Maxima over the Avalon and now think I regret my choice. Yes the Maxima has the horsepower, it has a more progressive look BUT the ride is rough, it is a little work to dirve, and outside noise is detectable. So if you only have short hops want to accelerate to 60 -70 and then go slow its great. If you want to cruise and drive for more than 30 minutes at speed NOT A GOOD CHOICE - This weekend I am going to buy an Avalon - will accept less exterior sex appeal look and horsepower for Luxury ride / quietness which should be expected in a $30K car.
