The Maxima receives updates this year that make it less of a family sedan and more of an entry-level luxury sport sedan. Headlining this year's upgrades is a 3.5-liter V6 that produces a stunning 255 horsepower. For maximum performance, sport-tuned SE models now combine this engine with a standard six-speed manual transmission. Other changes include revised exterior styling, additional feature content and an optional GPS navigation system.

Of course, once you jump up to the luxury class (BMW, Audi, Lexus, etc.), you are paying for the name. Best value for a car given all the options and the performance

Best Motor - 2002 Nissan Maxima
By sam - September 5 - 10:16 amThis has been probably the best all-around car we have ever owned from the standpoint of durability/reliability. This is the best engine in any car weve ever owned. Smooth as silk, lots of torque, but with great mileage. We can get near 30 mpg highway if we use cruise and stay at 70mph or under. Hard to believe its a V6. Wind noise and ride quality are a little dated, but overall this is a better car than the current Maxima which is too soft and a big disappointment.

By Chuck Gibson - September 1 - 7:33 amI bought the car new in 2002 and have been very pleased overall. A few quirks witht the radio in the beginning, but all is resolved under warranty. Fuel economy is nothing to brag about (25.9mpg on the fuel economy meter, but dont believe it). Engine is powerful and extremely smooth. No problem getting around the slowpokes or merging onto highways. My only complaint is the limited turning radius on this car. Many times I have had to unnecessary 3 point turns that most cars, or even my wifes minivan would cruise through easily. I have received many compliments on this car and dont feel as though I have wasted a dime on it. The resale value proves the resale legacy continues.

By art327 - July 14 - 2:00 amGreat value for the money. Looked at a 325 BMW but it was 10K more than the Max. Glad that I stayed with the cloth interior but wish that I got the Boise package. Lots of power, received my first speeding ticket in over 30 years.

By tkesde1 - July 14 - 2:00 amThe car is very impressive thus far - feels solid - you can really feel the horsepower while also being incredibly comfortable in ALL the seats. Tons of leg room and it seems as if they thought of everything. Definitely the best car Ive ever driven.

By JIM CAVAGNARO - June 27 - 7:36 amI picked the se model for its stiffer suspension for better handling. The car is like a locomotive when you put your foot into it, especially above 4000 rpms. Mine is a 2002 model and has given exemplary service and reliability. With 45000 on the odo its as tight and quick as it was on day one. Top notch material quality. If the car has a shot coming its with the rear suspension which is not a real independant unit. I will probably buy another one after i pay this one off.For the money you cant go wrong with this model. Neck snapping speed, great brakes and all in a four door sedan package that looks great.
