This Year's Model Updates:

The Maxima has been (controversially) redesigned, providing more power, more room and more amenities to the luxury/performance sedan buyer. Key among the improvements is 222 horsepower from the standard V6, a boost in rear-seat legroom and an available 200-watt Bose audio system.

Pros:
  • Silky and powerful V6 engine, sports car moves, room for the whole family.
Cons:
  • Odd styling details, high price, rough ride quality with SE suspension.

Had a 1995 altima before this one, and I just loved it. As soon as I had a chance to buy the maxima I jumped on it and boy did I made a good deal. The car runs much better than I expected, pover and delivery is exceptional. Is an se. Model so the suspension is a little stiffer but you know that going into it.

Although its not quite as nice as my 93 Acura Legend LS, it is a great car for the money. The engine is strong, the car is built well, drives well and is extremely reliable. Confortable enough for 405 adults. You get what you pay for. This years Maxima will never compete with other higher end luxury/sport sedans, but comes very close. If you dont want to spend a lot of money on a BMW, Acura or Infinity, this is a great car.

Where do I begin? I love everything about this car. Large trunk, roomy interior - husband 62" and rides comfortably, low maintenance, good gas mileage, smooth quiet ride, strong engine, beautiful car.

Bought in 2005, with 70,000 miles, as a good compromise between power and economy. Overall, have been dissatisfied with the experience. I have replaced 2 sets of brakes, and they have begun to make noise again. Suspension has aged poorly, especially in rear, transmission slips (and is more to fix than the car is worth to me). I have put a lot of highway miles on the car (60,000), and it has not taken them well. Fortunately, I installed an expensive aftermarket stereo, which drowns out most of the road, wind, and mechanical noises the car makes. Requires premium fuel for not-so-snappy performance. I have also had to replace coils, radiator, and thermostat. Engineering is mediocre at best.

  • Worst automobile I have ever owned - 2000 Nissan Maxima

Based on the other reviews, we must have gotten a lemon. All within 50,000 miles: lost starter, engine shift assembly, front seat motor shorted out, transmission problems, catalytic converter failure and others. Have owned Hondas and Toyota and have NEVER had the idiotic problems I have with this car. Overall, a money pit, almost $3500 worth. PLus, Nissan does not stand behind product. When starter went out at 37,000 miles, Nissan claimed "that is just normal wear and tear." My 11 year old Honda still has original starter. Will never buy Nissan again.

  • Best in 35 years of driving - 2000 Nissan Maxima

Of all the vehicles I have driven in the past 35 years I like my Maxima GLE the best. Even though the exceptional comfort sold me the car I appreciate the more than adequate power, the feel of the car on the road, and the reliability. My Nissan dealer provides the best service I have ever experienced in 35 years of automobile ownership. I recommend this car without reservation.

  • Awesome engine, rest of car above okay. - 2000 Nissan Maxima

This Max has been a legacy in my family. Started off with a 88 that was ahead of its time. Now the 00 max was heading in the right direction until its design team hit a block. What were they thinking of, the back end is simply ugly. However, set aside the exterior design and you have a solid core, with the engine, durability, electronics, and very useful vast space of cargo and seating. The Bose is tops with more than adequate bass. The SE has the ability to handle the road due to its sports suspension. Very practical for a family sedan with a slight tendency to sportiness. The mileage proved itself @ 24mpg on avg, not too shabby for a 222 hp quasi- racer. Not too much road/wind noise.

This is my second maxima. before this i had a 90 with 228k I have not had one major problem with this car. I only have replaced 2 tires and rear brakes. You can barely hear the car running...its that quiet and the car is really stable at 80mph. I am averaging 22 mpg with all city driving. • Quality Maxima! - 2000 Nissan Maxima

Ive had this 2000 model for almost 3 years now and except for an O2 sensor and ignition coils that needed to be replaced, this car has been trouble free and is obviously very well made. Quality and comfort throughout and absolutely tremendous driving long distances on the highway. Gas mileage goes up to about 27 mpg on the highway.
