This Year's Model Updates:

The Maxima has been (controversially) redesigned, providing more power, more room and more amenities to the luxury/performance sedan buyer. Key among the improvements is 222 horsepower from the standard V6, a boost in rear-seat legroom and an available 200-watt Bose audio system.

Pros:
  • Silky and powerful V6 engine, sports car moves, room for the whole family.
Cons:
  • Odd styling details, high price, rough ride quality with SE suspension.

  • A great car - 2000 Nissan Maxima

This is my second Nissan, (first was an Altima) and I wont drive anything else. After 3 years, it has never been in the shop for anything but regularly scheduled maintenance. It is a powerful and solid driving car. I still love the look of this model Maxima. I recommend this car to everyone who wants a maintenance free vehicle.

  • Not worth the money - 2000 Nissan Maxima
    By -

I expected better when I purchased this car. Little things keep failing (coils, sensors), but you can expect at least a $300 bill each time. Customer Service is terrible, too. Interior is noisy and seats are uncomfortable for long drives. However, engine is powerful and the car moves when you want it to. Its too bad all the little nuisance problems spoil what should be a good car. Unless you find a really good deal, or dont mind a noisy interior with irritating squeaks, dont waste your money on this one.

  • Reliable Car - 2000 Nissan Maxima

Ive had this Maxima for almost ten years and have replaced the MAF, an O2 sensor, front axle, and three out of six ignition coils. The coils are easy to replace on your own (especially coils 2, 4, and 6) Anything thats ever broken on it didnt leave me stranded on the road! Overall, this is the most reliable car Ive ever owned. Its still quiet as a mouse and rides great. It still gets terrific gas mileage and I run it on 89 octane.

  • Hold for the long run - 2000 Nissan Maxima
    By -

This car has 139000 miles now and expect to hold for 200000+. Engine and trans ultra smooth, almost good as new; zip is still remarkable as described by all. Brakes have cost me a small fortune. Getting some body rust. Car is great on long trips, comfortable. Interior has held up flawlessly. Car has smacked 3 deer but recovered from all. Still great fun to drive.

  • I should have bought an Accord.... - 2000 Nissan Maxima
    By -

Overall, VERY fun car to drive when its working. Bought it slightly used a year and a half ago (now 4 years old) and Ive had a ton of problems with it-- everything from oxygen sensors going to traction control system errors to needing to replace all 6 ignition coils. When all is said and done, I should have saved $2,000 on the price and another $2-3,000 on repairs and bought the slightly less powerful Accord!

  • Great budget oriented sport sedan - 2000 Nissan Maxima
    By -

This car offers high performance (compared to the competition), and a low price with proven reliability and comfort. My only complaints are about the interior materials and the front wheel drive layout. My other car is an Audi A4, so I know what lengths some manufacturers will go to to surround the driver with lux materials and mechanics in the cockpit, but the Maximas interior is functional. To be more sport oriented, this must switch over to rear or all wheel drive though along with a shorter throw shifter. This engine is definitely a keeper.

  • A long term love - 2000 Nissan Maxima
    By -

I owned this car for 5 years and put about 100,000 miles on it. I absolutely loved this car. It has a cute exterior, and the performance is spectacular. The inside is roomy enough to fit 4 large adults comfortably, and the trunk had plenty of space for all of my camping gear. The 02 sensor was replaced and the tires cost a small fortune, but other than those expenses and regular maintenance (brake replacement, oil changes, etc.), this car was dependable. I commute a long way to work and owned this car for a long time and I never got tired of driving it.

  • LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT - 2000 Nissan Maxima
    By -

This is my second Maxima (the first was a 97 GLE). No kidding, I LOVE MAXIMAS. Theyre the best! My first Maxima had lots and lots of miles on it and started to make me a little nervous, so I got a 4 cyl 2 door Honda Accord for the gas mileage. Sure, I got 33 mpg, but after three months, I had to have another Maxima. Maximas have other "sport sedans" beat hands down on the power and performance.

  • My Best Car - 2000 Nissan Maxima
    By -

For a midsized car the 2000 Nissan Maxima does it all. It provides sufficient power at 225 Hp. It is not so great on the low-end torque but other features make up for the slack. The stock stereo system is great. The radio could have been a little more updated though (pause feature). Its handling is okay. So far it has proven to be very reliable. My fuel economy is okay considering that you have to put 91 octane or better in it or the engine will knock. I dont have any real complaints about this car yet.

  • Great car - 2000 Nissan Maxima

2000 Maxima GXE, 39,000 miles. Just replaced the stock tires. Could have gotten another 10 - 15k if I had rotated them more frequently. Had the alignment checked - didnt need it. Just had the brakes checked. Mechanic told me I have another 20 - 30k left on the pads. Havent done anything else other than routine maintenence. I still love driving this car. It drives like new - very tight,no squeeks or rattles. Lots of power and acceleration at all speeds, super smooth automatic transmission, Excellent performance and handling, totally reliable and good fuel economy.
