This Year's Model Updates:

The Maxima has been (controversially) redesigned, providing more power, more room and more amenities to the luxury/performance sedan buyer. Key among the improvements is 222 horsepower from the standard V6, a boost in rear-seat legroom and an available 200-watt Bose audio system.

Pros:
  • Silky and powerful V6 engine, sports car moves, room for the whole family.
Cons:
  • Odd styling details, high price, rough ride quality with SE suspension.

  • Wish it were a better car for the money - 2000 Nissan Maxima

Decent car but not the most reliable. Well cared for but after 115k needs oxygen sensors and a catalytic converter, ball joint, tie rod end, steering rack. Has already had manual trans rebuild w/ clutch(bad leaky seals, coils replaced, alternator, Bose stereo replacement, sub woofer replacement and Im sure I left something else out. The trunk lid is totally rusted out also.

Had the car for about 4 months now, is all I thought it would be. I bought it used, so I knew that there will be some work needed done to it, but so far so good. Is strong, smooth and it delivers at any rpm.

  • The Very Best - 2000 Nissan Maxima

Bought the car brand new and never had any major issues. Just totaled the car a week ago and walked out with little injury. Very Safe! Now looking to replace the best car I ever owned! 103k and was still running as strong as the day I drove it off the lot. Normal wear and tear issues. Tires and brakes seemed to need replaced alot..could just be me. Fun to drive, loved everything about it.

I never planed on buying a Maxima...Ive always had Grand Cherokees....but once i test drove a Maxima...I was hooked! Overall, my Maxima has been the most reliable car Ive ever owned, and is also the most fun to drive! Superb acceleration, & braking, and decent gas mileage. I just miss that high driving position of an SUV....perhaps I should check out the Nissan Murano next year...

  • Yes indeed I like Maximas - 2000 Nissan Maxima

This the third Maxima Ive owned. That should tell you something right off the bat. These are really great cars, reiable cars, that also give you pride in owning one. Its as well made as a Honda Accord but gives you three time more fun in driving. Im not a dealer or a Nissan rep, just a guy who loves and believes in these cars enough to take the time write such a message for your benefit. I cannot imagine why people consider any other four door (sports) sedans when they can get one of these. Enough is enough. My new (used) Maxima SE is just as good, if not better than the other ones Ive owned. Or you can get some slower, lamer, more expensive Lexus for more money.

  • Bang for our buck - 2000 Nissan Maxima

I always knew this car was a performer. I have only owned domestic vehicles my whole life because I knew how to work on them with ease. I decided to make a change and try out a foreign vehicle. The Maxima was my first choice. I have not regretted buying this car and have enjoyed everyday commuting in it. It is comfortable with leather seats, fun to drive with a 222 hp engine and sport suspension, and classy enough to drive into any yuppified area of town. This car is a vehicle of all traits and will prove it upon any dare presented. If you need a car that does it all with a budget in mind, this one is for you.

  • Three Year Review - 2000 Nissan Maxima

This is the 7th Nissan vehicle I have owned, and the second Maxima. I use it extensively on the interstates for business travel, and it has been a very dependable car. I have put nearly 80k miles on it, and it has only required tires (one set at 58k miles), brakes (pads at 59k miles and front rotors and all pads at 78k miles), and a serpantine belt change (along with regular oil changes, and oil and air filter changes). A very quick, agile GLE.

My second Maxima after my original 1981. This car gives me exactly what I need and expect, great performance, solid feel and superb reliability. I also own a popular German car and I would keep my Maxima if I had to make a choice. My wife would keep the Teuton, so everybodys happy. If I have it my way Ill be purchasing this car at the end of the lease; if not Ill be leaving a lot of money on the table.

  • Fun car, but unreliable - 2000 Nissan Maxima
    By -

I loved and hated my maxima. Lots of power, roomy and comfortable, but tons of problems. Fuel gauge was off, ignition coils went bad, and it randomly died on me on the freeway- where people were doing 80 and I had no place to pull over. This was during the three day period I owned it. Car met its demise when I was taking a drive one night and there was a cow... in the middle of the road. Apparently somebody in Nevada thought it was a good idea to create "open range". The brakes on the car were bad and I didnt see it in time. Car was no longer drivable, but I walked away. Reliable? No. Safe in an accident? Very.
