  • Disappointing in the end - 2013 Hyundai Elantra

When researching which new car to purchase, the deciding factors in the end were that I had an Elantra for 12 years and it was very reliable, and I wanted a car with decent gas mileage. So far its been reliable, though a few small things have failed already. But the gas mileage is just plain terrible. If I had known, I would have gotten the car I really wanted that had weaker gas mileage instead!

  • Elegant Elantra for featherfooters - 2013 Hyundai Elantra

Worst feature, youll have to dump 3 gears before you finally get Elantra to go. Poor rear suspension. Beware of potholes, & rear wheel skip! Comfortable, less so with lots of weight. Elantra is the best looking car in 20 years, inside & out! Using ethanol-free gasoline & careful driving, accurately AVERAGED 39+mpg (high-43mpg), May thru early December, Seattle weather. Presently, with cold & winter blend gasoline, its dropped to 38mpg. Should still be above my hoped for 35-36mpg after the first year. Elantra has lots of road & tire noise, but very quiet on "experimental quiet pavement". Widest rear seat shoulder width of any car getting nearly 40mpg. 100%, no problems.

  • ABS problems in ice due to cheap tires - 2013 Hyundai Elantra

As a whole, I like this car. It has a very comfortable driving position for someone my size (63"), gets good gas mileage (though not what was advertised), is reasonably quiet and has this nice extended warranty. I have noticed a couple of significant problems, however, one of which is dangerous. But first, for the false sales pitch. The sales person will tell you that the oil only needs to be changed every 7500 miles. That was one of the selling points to me. But the manual has all sorts of fine print around that figure, so the actual service guys will tell you that you may void the warranty unless you change the oil around every 5000. So dont get caught in that trap. see below

A bit disappointed with the gas mileage as it is not getting what was advertised 13000 miles later.

  • 7.2 L/100 Km, Not really - 2013 Hyundai Elantra
    By -

I am writing this review cause I am disappointed with my 2013 Elantra GLS. After driving for some weeks and going for three full tanks, I am not even close to the publicized 7.2 L/Km. I am getting between 8 and 9 L/100 km (city and highway combined). I drive very cautiously, never accelerate too aggressively or maintain the car idle for prolonged periods of time. I went to see the Hyundai dealer and they first mentioned that they could not do anything about it, that 9 L/100 Km was better than other drivers were getting. I had to push the dealership to do something and I they said that I needed to take the car for a road test and I needed to pay for the test. I accepted.

  • Love my 2013 - 2013 Hyundai Elantra

I got this car back in august of 2012. I absolutely love it. The only problems Ive had is with my tires. My car seems to be a road hazard magnet (I had 4 nails in 3 tires at one point) It took the service department a long time to figure out why my tire pressure kept getting low but the day they did figure it out it was covered under the tire plan that I got when I first purchased the car. I have the Fuel Reimbursement so I have to qualms with that! Overall I drive 25-30 miles to and from work every day and im getting gas just about every week and a half.

  • Car great, Han Kook tires not so great. - 2013 Hyundai Elantra
    By -

I had a 2007 for 5 yrs until I got my 2013. Other than 3 radios put in, and at year 5 I did have some minor problems such as a back door handle broke internally and problems rolling up a back window. However the real problem was with the Han Kook tires. 3 of my 4 original tires got flats, one literally from what could only be called a large splinter. After 2.5 years I ended up replacing all 4 tires. Fast fwd to 2013. My nitro filled tires. I had my car 6 months. I notice the tire light go on. Sure enough I had a leak. I took it in for an oil change, looked at and told me I needed a new tire! The leak was too high to patch. All they had in stock Han Kooks. Han Suck! Loud on highway, tires?

  • Dont believe the gas mileage hype - 2013 Hyundai Elantra
    By -

Recently purchased a 2013 Elantra Limited under the premise that I would be getting a fuel efficient vehicle for a decent price. I traded a 2012 Camaro to make this deal as I travel 65 miles a day to work and back in hybrid traffic. I drive pretty conservatively and live in Florida which is predominately flat. With the first 1,000 miles down, I am getting 25.4 MPG which is a far cry from the 28C-38H-32Hybrid they are so fond of telling you about. My Camaro was getting 20.6 hybrid, so I gained far less car with no real savings. The Elantra is a great car for what it is, but if you are seeking this vehicle solely for gas mileage, dont make the mistake. You wont see the stated mileage.
