i bought a honda becuase i thought i could reley on it to provide me with good transproation. i bought the highest grade model, and things just started going wroge within two weeks of my car off the lot. my electircal system had to be completely rewired, my head had to be replaced, and my transmission was less than satisfactory. after two montehs with this car, i left my civic crap for a new cavalier, which has been much more reliable, and saved me about 3000 dollars, even after the hondas bills.

This was the first car I ever bought. I bought it used, off a Honda Dealer and I got to say, so far, its been the best decision Ive made! It is great on fuel, it looks great and it is very reliable. I just make sure I get oil changes every 3-4k miles, and its good to go. Since Ive owned it, all that has need replaced are "wear and tear" items, such as brakes, tires, muffler, battery. The exterior still looks great - my car is black, and there are no rust spots, or chips in the paint - its still has the glossy finish.

Bought a 157k miles 98 LX from the 2nd owner who doesnt know what car maintenance means. She paid for all the quickie oil changes but the original timing belt is still there after 157k miles. Goes to tell you how amazing the car is built. Anyway, I bought it cheap and spent $800 on a major service including new timing belt, fan belt, water pump, etc... The transmission also did not get a fluid change in the last 135k miles!!! With a little TLC, this car will drive beyond 200k miles.

I have just gotten my license in the last year and for my first car i bought my Honda Civic. So far ive had to replace an Oxygen sensor which set me back a couple hundred bucks. The power under the hood could be more but it does its job. Other than that i have no complaints. The car runs great and is really fun to drive. I would recomend a Honda to anyone who wants an affordable reliable car........

  • best purchase ever - 1996 Honda Civic

How can you go wrong with one of these? Ive had this car from day 1, and all i have spent money on is preventative maintnance. Its not going to out-pace a corvette, but it is a car you can count on to get you where u need to go. Ive got 141,000 miles and im running it till the wheels fall off.

  • How to deal with High Gas Prices - 1996 Honda Civic

I bought the car in 8/2001. All the servicing I have had done are oil changes and changing the radiator fluid. I use the cheapest gas I can find. It gets 40+ highway miles to the gallon. How can I complain? Its probably one of the smartest purchases Ive made in a long time.

  • Original Owner Stills Drives Car in 2017! - 1996 Honda Civic

This is the best car Ive ever owned and first Honda! Bought it on a whim in 1996 and still own it today. The only mechanical work Ive had done is general maintenance. The radiator and transmission both lasted over 200K miles. wow! I have about 240K miles on it now and expect to drive it another 240K at least. Just keep up with regular maintenance and it will pay you back many times over. Great fuel efficiency too. Gets 35 mpg in town and has gotten well over 40 mpg highway. Ive driven this car in high elevations, coastal areas, snow, rain, you name it. Its always held its own with traction. Never gotten stuck. Great little car. If I could say one thing that I dont like about this car is that the front seats are very uncomfortable on road trips.

  • Bad Quality - 1996 Honda Civic

In 2nd month, window got stuck after paying toll on NJ Turnpike, had to drive the next 90 miles in freezing cold with wide open window. Afterwards, there was a big wind noise on the driver side window. The hatchback rattled all the time. Everytime the car went in for an oil change, I had service guy check it out. Every time he claimed it was fixed. It came back again. The AC broke down in the first summer. With skinny tires, the car changed lanes on its own whenever theres strong cross wind. Little power. Dealer ate the new car survey. Sold it after 3 years. Would never buy another Civic.
