  • No buyers remorse - 2017 Honda CR-V
    By -

Ive held off on buying a car most of my adult life, for a variety of reasons, most recently because it has been near impossible to find a vehicle that ticks off all the boxes, but also because auto technology is changing so rapidly now. But living in New England and tired of driving of failing to get hybrid Camrys and Prius Cs through the snow and ice so I can get to my clients, I realized that I couldnt let perfect be the enemy of the good, so I made a list, I checked it twice, and the CR-V came through on everything but the mileage. And, even then, it has no peers in its class. Even the RAV4 Hybrid gets a mere 10% bump, and for that you pay a premium on a base model without all the great features included in a CR-V EX. Having owned the vehicle for a month now, I dont see how I could have done better. Sure, the entertainment and settings interface is terrible, but at least it is CarPlay compatible, so I am using that most of the time, and really looking forward to seeing if that sticks around and how it develops. I like the ride height and feel of the road. The steering is solid and the wheel feels good. The adaptive cruise control is a feature Ive come to really like, as well as lane departure and collision warning, none of which were available on the RAV4 hybrid. Loving having a sun roof now, too. Cargo could be a little more convenient, despite its volume. Theres a ledge keeping me from laying a folded 6 table totally flat in back, even with the seats down, which is annoying. Even the hybrid Camry allowed me to lay the table flat, with room to spare on every side. But I do like the vertical height. Took advantage of it to go car camping. Because of that height, we were able to load up the back without putting down the seats. Everyone remarks at the design and the Obsidian Blue color. People cant believe its a Honda. Neither can I. I should have seen it coming with the new HR-V style that got my attention (not a great car, but a nice design for a small SUV type vehicle), but I thought that was a one-off. Not so. I even like these wheels better than any previous CR-V model. This car went from boring and not on my list to the top of my list when it first came out, and I am not disappointed. Again, Id love to have this exact car with better acceleration and fuel economy (mid-30s seems reachable), but until that perfect car exists, this one will definitely do, and I have no remorse about buying it with the intent to keep for a long, long time.

  • Great car, dealership and service sucked - 2017 Honda CR-V

You can get a good deal, but the base model is very simple. No bells and whistles, but it will get you where you need to go.

  • Packed with features, few complaints - 2017 Honda CR-V
    By -

Adaptive cruise control and lane assist make for frighteningly leisurely highway driving. One step below self-driving. Android Auto integration is amazing. Ive been using Android Auto on my phone in an air-vent mount for years and this is just light years better. The feature list for the price is impossible to beat. Drives nicer and with a LOT less road noise than my 2009 CRV. A few minor complaints. Why in the world is the USB port with the data connection only 1.5AMP? There are two 2+AMP ports in the back, but the one that will be used every single time the owner gets in the car doesnt get turbo charging? Bizarre decision. Road departure protection has a tendency to trigger randomly when on less-than-great roads. So far Ive been dealing with it and resisting the temptation to turn it off because I know if I turn it off its likely to stay off and then it wont be there for me when I need it. Occasionally the computer says my phone isnt connected when it is and only unplugging/replugging will fix it. It has plenty of power for average commuting, I have so far never been tempted to turn off Eco mode. Averaging about 31.5 MPG without really trying and using Adaptive Cruise Control heavily.

  • Good so far but not great - 2017 Honda CR-V
    By -

Our CRV is only three weeks old. We have put around 2000 miles on it so far. We have found much to like, the fuel economy is very good. There is a lot of cargo space and the visibility out from the drivers seat is excellent. It has decent acceleration and holds the road well. Weve not had the chance to drive it in snow yet, but that is coming soon. We also have found some things that we are not so crazy about. It is reasonably comfortable but the seats are certainly not luxurious. The worst disadvantage is the noise level in the cab. At highway speeds, the road noise drowns out the sound system . The drivers display is pretty complex and can be VERY distracting when things get busy outside the car. There is no way to turn the lights off completely, if the engine is on, the running lights stay on regardless of what the driver tries to do. When the rear seats are folded down to increase cargo area, they dont fold flat, so its not real convenient for hauling cargo. The rear hatch collects dust (we live 25 miles from town at the end of about 10 miles of gravel road) and the exterior finish is the worst Ive ever had for electrostatic attraction of road dust. The warranty is a bit anemic. 35,000 bumper to bumper and 75,000 power train, but were banking on the Honda tradition of excellent durability. Overall were satisfied with the vehicle and would recommend it as basic, utility-type transportation.

  • May new Honda CRV EXL Is Somewhat Of A Disapointme - 2017 Honda CR-V
    By -

My new 2017 Honda CRV EXL is somewhat of a disappointment because : A. It didn’t come with roof rails and crossbars, B. Back window on rear hatch doesn’t open, C. I don’t like there climate control , when using autostart during the winter at times my fan speed that I set on high does not always engage on high. I’ve called Honda Customer Service in the past about goodwilling and installing new roof rails and crossbars and the person I spoke with could care less telling me that it was my problem. All CRV’s should come with a roof rack especially if the rear window doesn’t open.

  • Does and Does Not Exceed Expectations - 2017 Honda CR-V

After test driving several vehicles in the same class as the CR-V, I chose the CR-V EXL because it has nearly everything or more than its competitors for a much lower price. In terms of fit and finish, the interior of my CR-V EXL is superior than the Kia Sorento or the Chevrolet Equinox. The technology my CR-V came with is seems very current and up to date, and I have enjoyed every minute of it. One major downfall as far as the entertainment system is that this car did not come with a CD player. In terms of road noise, my CR-V is very disappointing. You would think the EXL trim package would include better sound insulation than the lower trims. I paid more, so I should get more in terms of sound insulation - plain and simple. Im a fairly small to medium-sized guy, so the interior fits my body type very well. Taller people could fit comfortably, but this doesnt seem like a tall person kind of vehicle. Ive only had it for 4 weeks, so I cant speak as to the reliability of my CR-V. Front seat comfort seems adequate, but rear seat feels like sitting on a park bench. Rear climate control is ABYSMAL, as the rear vent located behind the front arm rest barely pumps out a breeze for rear occupants. There should be a control switch so that rear passengers can adjust fan level up or down as they wish. Gas mileage is adequate when in Econ mode, but acceleration is severely hampered unless you take it out of Econ mode. Funny, it has a turbo which is supposed to give the 4-cylinder more gusto in acceleration, but Econ mode eliminates the gusto altogether and youre back where you started: a gutless 4 cylinder engine propelling a smaller, but hulky SUV. I think I would have preferred a 6-cylinder engine. The exterior style is far superior to that of any competitor in its class, as far as Im concerned. Overall, my CR-V EXL has been extremely pleasant to drive. I still feel that it stands head and shoulders above any of its competitors in all aspects, though I have my wishes as to improvements that could be made.

  • 1st The bad and then the good. - 2017 Honda CR-V

After only 3 mo. the foot operated lift gate quit operating and needs to go into the shop for repair. This model has the top of the line stereo system and my $150.00 boom box puts it to shame. Extremely dissatisfied. Had a 2001 Toyota Camry and it far outperformed this unit. On a scale of 1-10 I would rate it as a 4. The shift mechanism is a bit cheap as has way too much plastic and is a bit wobbly. Not nice and smooth operating. Extremely pleased with the quality of the rest of the interior. Very comfy seats, sits up nice thus providing good view. So far the traction with AWD really seems good in snow. Interior is quiet at highway speeds. Wind noise is quite minimal.

  • Hmmmm... - 2017 Honda CR-V

I have only owned Hondas since 1981. I owned a Civic (over 100,000 mi), an Accord (318,000 mi), and an Odyssey (359,800 and still going). This is the first Honda I purchased thinking I would trade it in in a few years on something else. There is much to like about the CRV, but the drivers seat is not comfortable compared to my Odyssey and other vehicles I tested and it is not as attractive as other 2017 makes and models. I also do not care for the sound system in the CRV. It sounds cheap. I decided on the CRV based on resale value.

  • Not My 2006 Car Camping CR-V. - 2017 Honda CR-V
    By -

I was so excited to learn there was a redesign for the 2017 model. The day they arrived at the lot, I test drove an LX and an EX. We all know what is good: cargo space, mpg, safety. With the CVT, I am hoping we still have reliability and CR-Vs that last for 200k-300,000 miles, but too soon to tell. I sold my all-time favorite vehicle, a highly reliable 2006 CR-V that doubled as a fly fishing and car camping machine, to fellow fly fishing friends. Three years later, it operates w/o any problems. I sold it because I shouldve rust-proofed that Honda, but I didnt. ): In part because recent year CR-Vs dropped their earlier ground clearance, I bought a Subaru Outback. Great MPG, but Im concerned about their CVTs, and the 06 CR-V was still a better outdoor persons suv than the Subaru, which is marketed to outdoor enthusiasts. There were too many little things that disappointed me in the 2017 CR-V, and a few big things that dont suit my outdoor lifestyle, that led me NOT to buy the new CR-V. Boo! *1) No CD player... to play the audio books on those 4 to 8-hr car rides to my fishing destinations. 2) Annoying: no storage on LX behind drivers seat. Chintzy and impractical. Come on, Honda. Thats where my maps go. *3) No option to use a key to start suv in any models except LX. What if battery dies or fob becomes defective, gets dropped in water? I want a key to most-reliably start the vehicle. 4) Id love the choice of a mid-level suv that does NOT make me have a sunroof. 5) It seems that the light-colored exteriors no longer had black (dark), cloth interior options... Outdoorsy people can get dirty and/or wet pants and still need to sit on seats and drive vehicles. *6) If consumers all have to have touchscreens, how about angling them slightly downward or ? so the sun does not reflect off them into the drivers eyes??! And for that matter, can we get rid of the fake, reflective silver trim on the dash and center counsel? These, to me, are more important safety and comfort features than things like "acoustic glass". *7) Please, please, please give the 2018 CR-V fold-flat front seats like my 06 CR-V did and the current Rogue does!! With the fold-flat seat, I could car camp safely in passenger front/rear seat, leaving cargo area for cargo and allowing me to slip into drivers seat in case of safety needs/to drive away. I could also recline the rear seat and work on projects or read prior to going to sleep. The 2017 LX drivers seat almost folds flat enough, but serious padding would be needed for remotely comfortable sleeping. Fold flat seats also allow for hauling longer items for DIY projects. 8) Do you remember those hooks on the rear headliner of the 06 CR-V that were intended for use with child safety seats? Well, those hooks served other practical needs. I hung bungie cords from them, used Velcro on the headliner and attached bungies between the left and right passenger above-the-door handles to hang my fly rods in the compact 06 CR-V. Man, I miss that vehicle! No hooks on headliner of 2017 CR-V, but Rogue has one. Alas, Rogue is too small and Ive heard rumors about CVT concerns there, too. Every part of me wants to own the reliable Honda CR-V again, but Honda started turning it more into a car as years went on. Now, with increased ground clearance and improved height cargo area, maybe Honda is getting more practical again and gearing their compact suv to people who really want the utility of an suv? Fold flat seats would go along way to make the suv more outdoors and DIY ready. And what other manufacturers are ditching the cd player?! Lets get that cd player back in the cabin. Thanks for letting me do this review!

  • Great Honda, Great SUV, Not an Acura - 2017 Honda CR-V
    By -

This is a very high end Honda, but this is not the quality of materials (the leather seats), or the fit and finish (particularly the rear hatch seams.....), of my Acuras. I assume it will have the same reliability as the 8 other Honda products I have owned. Details: average mileage is ~25 MPG; when you go over 78 MPH the turbo is on all the time, mileage drops fast (to around 22 MPG?); transmission is good, even acts like it is shifting when you push it hard (I like it?); rear seat room is awesome; handling is awesome; the leather on the front seats is weak, really weak, it will wear fast; get the all weather floor mats, they are awesome; the fit of the rear hatch baffles me, it is so bad I can almost get my finger in the seams....weird; the infotainment system is aggravating at best, very confusing; bluetooth is crazy, out of control, takes control of your phone even when you have deleted your phone; Android Auto works fine, but be prepared, Android Auto messes up your phone bad; Apple Car Play also works fine, but that product is terrible; love the deep white Touring color; AWD is awesome and seamless; There is a slight vibration at 78 MPH, I think it is the turbo not being isolated - I am getting used to it, so not a problem; we have 6K on the CRV. This CRV looks so much better than any of the previous versions, that is why we took a look at it. We do love it, quirks and all. We have 4 grown kids, and 2 grandkids, and we think this will make a very nice hand-me down at some point in the future - as did my 99 TL, my 05 Odyssey, my 08 Fit, and my 09 TSX - and 92 and 93 Accords....ugh....yeah, that is not all the Honda products, but most of them.....
