This Year's Model Updates:

For the 1999 Honda Accord, coupes remain unchanged after their recent overhaul, but the sedans receive new seat fabric, and the LX and EX sedans now feature fold-away side mirrors.

Pros:
  • Good build-quality, spacious interior, peppy engine, and comfortable seats. We call it intelligent engineering.
Cons:
  • Popularity. Bad guys steal them.

  • Honda quality - 1999 Honda Accord

My 1999 accord quality and reliability is so bad that I am convinced Honda is misleading the customers on their claim on reliability. Through this review, I would like to point out a flaw, either in the design or the manufacturing process, of the 1999 model year Honda Accord engine. The cylinder #3 valve melted out and blew a hole in it while driving on the highway. The mileage on the car was only about 105K. Honda dealers, and Honda H.Q. refused to honor any claims since the mileage is over 80K.

This is a great vehicle. I feel in love with the LX but could only afford the Ex version. I have not been disappointed. I have had no problems other than: -a seatbelt attachment replacement - a brake sensor needing adjustment - door locks going out Most of these things were covered by warranty. Although I do not have the V6, I still like how this car performs, rides, and looks. After four years, I am still very happy with it and plan to hold onto it for quite a while. Its nice to know that Hondas really hold their value in case I do decide to trade in.

  • Bearing Down - 1999 Honda Accord

Overall results are good except for the alternater that went at 42ooo miles- I was told it was a Delco part and that they were having problems with them. I am also having problems with rear wheel bearings. Both sides went bad at about 39000 miles and were replaced by Honda, who told me I would not have any future problems. Eleven months later and less than 12000 miles the right rear was again replaced and I can start to hear the left rear making noice. Any one else having these problems?

  • Picked the right "Honda" - 1999 Honda Accord

I purchased a 1999 Honda Accord EX Coupe V6 in Apr 09 with 184,786 miles on it. The CarFax was downloaded on the website. Went to check it out. The engine was in great shape not "DOGGED" like most. Belts and chain replaced. No Tranny work done. But I can expect it to happen with this model. So I just go purchase a good warranty packet no big deal. This Honda is a great car. A drivers car not a "RACE CAR" Stop crying and face the facts. Normal maintenance, wear and tear. You cannot beat it.

  • Overall a good car - 1999 Honda Accord

I wanted Honda reliability but was a little disappointed, overall a very good car though. Two guys I worked with have 98s (the year this version was redesigned), while they have a lot more miles, I used that as a gauge of problems I could expect. Alternator and battery failed at only 35K miles ($700) which I thought was pretty bad and it needed brakes prematurely soon after that, but thats been about it - almost 10 years old, needs new motor mount but no other repair issues. Its powerful, fairly quiet, agile, excellent handling and braking. Gas mileage drops al lot if you go 70+ MPH. The clear coat finish on the wheels is wearing a little prematurely being in FL most its life.

  • Most reliable car Ive ever owned - 1999 Honda Accord
    By -

Got this my car back in 2002 w/ 24,000 miles. Now it has over 80k and Im amazed how reliable this car is. Aside from the required maintenance, the only problems I had is changing the light bulbs, squeaky shocks on the front driver, & annoying rattles in the trunk. That is it, I bought a 5spd so I have non of those trans problems. Thinking of getting a new car, but cant really part w/ my reliable Honda.

  • Beyond Reliability - 1999 Honda Accord

I purchased the car in 2001 because my car died "literally" at the dealership. I am so glad I picked this car. It has been the best car I have ever owned. No problems. Change the oil, put gas in, & change the tires. Thats all you need to do. I have never had any problems. It even takes the abuse of my wifes driving :).

  • 185K and still going - 1999 Honda Accord

Best build quality of any vehicle hands down. Change the oil every 5k and no problems. 1 timing belt at 100K, and new ac compressor. Just keeps going and going.

  • Great Car! - 1999 Honda Accord

My parents purchased this vehicle new in August 1999, and it became mine in summer 2008, with 145K on the ticker. It now has 155K and has been dead reliable. Needed a clutch at 118K, ball joints and an ignition a year ago, and various wear items. Only non-wear items that have gone are the backlight for the clock, the left rear window switch in that door (still works from drivers door), and the green LED in the main cruise control switch. Id buy another one in a heartbeat but will hold onto this one for a while, until I can afford a six-speed Acura TL in a few years.

  • Nothing is perfect-Great basic vehicle - 1999 Honda Accord

I have 175K on my 1999 Honda Accord. I am thinking of purchasing another car, but it would only be for fun. My car runs like a new car. I could drive to the moon and back with confidence. I did have to replace the transmission at 90K and the ball joints at 30K. However, Honda covered these expenses and were very apologetic to me. The dealer gave me a loaner car. Keep up the maintenance with an oil change every 3000 miles.
