  • Dont buy a 2016 FORD EXPLORER..... - 2016 Ford Explorer
    By -

My 2016 Ford Explorer was purchased in March. It has about 6,000 miles on it and it completely stopped in the middle of the road. Im so disappointed.... A 50,000 dollar car should be made a whole lot better than this. This is happening to all of the 2016 explorers as I just so happened to drive a rented one while on a business trip and the same exact thing happened. I guess I have bad luck!!! we need to complain this is absolutely not right!!!!!!!

Overall the 2016 Ford Explorer is a great vehicle. A few changes would make it an outstanding vehicle. The Sync Center boasts about the SD drive and USB. However, the SD drive is unavailable if the navigation system is being used -- a second SD drive would be great. The navigation SD should also have a lock of some sort on it. I was advised to remove it whenever the vehicle is serviced since the drive is a popular item to steal. Also, there is no auxiliary speaker connection for the older model MP3 players and no adapter is being offered. There also needs to be an option to turn off the hands-free lift gate option. This option could pose a problem if you are in a crowd with the keys in your pocket and your vehicle not in your view. There should also be a side step purchase option for the shorter people to aid in entry and exit of the vehicle. I was told if side steps are installed after market it could possibly negate my warranty because of the possibility of nipping hidden wiring. Lastly, the area for resting your non-driving foot is over a hump and not flat for comfort and the seats are a little short - another couple of inches would have been nice. These are just adjustments that would suit my lifestyle. The vehicle is beautiful and a joy to drive. I JUST WANT IT ALL.

  • 3rd time could be a charm - 2016 Ford Explorer

This is my third explorer. This car is so comfortable and smooth its incredible. I recently rented a Lincoln MKz and it was so quiet and smooth, I rate this Explorer about the same about of smooth quiet. The only issue I have is the push off. The immediate exceleration is awful, once you ramp up the car moves and you have to watch yourself. Its so smooth I forget how fast Im actually moving. Seats are comfy, the whole family loves them. The entertainment right at your finger tips is a joy. Being able to listen to text messages and voice mail was an added plus. I will not text or read text or even talk on the phone and drive. This makes this a bit safer and easier to deal with.

  • First Impressions - 2016 Ford Explorer

Have owned this vehicle for 2 weeks. Took it on its first real road trip this weekend. Approximately 3 hours one way. The engine responds very well and gets up to speed quickly. Do to the quietness of the cabin and the smooth ride you may be going faster than you think. The electronics in the vehicle are way better than comparable cars in the class. A lot more bells and whistles for the value. We had owned a BMW X5 prior and looked at those prior to purchasing this car. We also checked out the Lexus and the Audis. For the price with all the options you can not beat this car. The interior materials a very nice and stylish. top notch leather, beautifully crafted and stitched. Instruments are well laid out and easy to see and understand. Heated and cooled seats, heated steering wheel, heated rear seats. Cargo space was a must for our family and the rear area with the seats folded down hold golf clubs length wise without an problem. The third row seats are fairly nice and in a pinch work well. They have better leg room than the competition. Cons: - Driver Seats - While they may look pretty, they are not the most comfortable for long drives as previously noted. One reviewer noted the seats were to contoured. I find just the opposite, I wish there was a little more bolsters and the side of the back and the seat. Along with that it has been noted the seat feels a little short. Not quite enough thigh support. If the seat tilted back and lifted the front edge a little more that might improve this. I also have a 14 Ford Raptor, and I wish they would have put those seats in this car. Dead Peddle - Or the location the left foot sits while driving. This is just plain weird to me. Im not sure what the engineers where thinking. There is a distinct lack of space if you try to stretch out your leg. I am not particularly tall at 510" and if it bothers me I know it will be an issue for someone taller. I found that I had to keep my left bent in a 90 degree angle for the ride in order to be comfortable. For 3 hours this was not that bad but I have the feeling that for longer trips it will become an even bigger issue. Overall, the car offers a lot for the money and the appointments are nice. Would the negatives be enough to prevent me from purchasing the car again? I dont think so. This car is my wifes and the seats fit her fine and she has no issue where the foot sits. I will either deal with the dead peddle issue or let her drive.

  • Another Throttle Body Issue - VERY Dangerous - 2016 Ford Explorer
    By -

My 2016 Explorer only has 7,300 miles and hasnt even had its first oil change yet. Last week, while driving on a major highway at 70mph in the center lane, it just shut off. Im so lucky that I didnt cause an accident. Finally got it working again and was able to get home. The dealer scheduled it for service but didnt seem concerned and it would be a week before they could see it. The next day, it did it again on another major road 4 TIMES. I barely made it home and then called a tow truck. Its been at the dealer now for 6 days. The Throttle Body Sensor is on backorder (probably from so many cases) and they have no idea when it will be in. They would not offer a rental car because I didnt pay for the extended warranty. So not only was this VERY dangerous, Im now without a vehicle for almost a week or more b/c of this. Ford should at least offer a rental car.

  • Second Explorer-same problem - 2016 Ford Explorer
    By -

This is our second Explorer. Bought the first one in July of 2014. Anytime you accelerated to pass a car or just sped up, there was a smell of exhaust fumes in the cabin. After many trips to the dealer and finally filing a complaint with Ford, they reacquired the vehicle in October of 2015 and we purchased a 2016 model. We were told that problem had been repaired on the 2016 model. That was not the truth. We are now going through the same process with a complaint. Not sure how this will turn out but will not have another Explorer. And that is really sad because we love everything about it with the exception of not being able to breathe when the cabin fills with exhaust fumes.

  • Same problems as everyone else - 2016 Ford Explorer

Read the reviews and we have all had the same problems . I almost died with my 10 year old son in the car in north 275. Car shut down had it towed . No where to go on 275 cars driving by us going 90 . Got the car back after being fixed the second time and it still not running right . Runs rough and now my son wont drive in it . Called ford they dont care that my son is scared to death to drive in this brand new vehicle. Tonight I was driving again and lost engine power again . This is becoming nightmare . These cars are a mess

  • Already been in the shop - 2016 Ford Explorer

I bought this car brand new in 2015. Its a 2016 model. The other day while driving down the road, the car lost power. It freaked me out because the car is brand new. Come to find out, the throttle body went out. I bought a new car so I wouldnt have to spend my days at the dealer getting it worked on. Well that came back to bite me in the butt. Then, a day later, I noticed my AC isnt cooling properly. Is anyone else having issues??

The lane guidance and adaptive cruse take a little bit to get used to the automatic functions. These features work well but are unnerving the first time used. Handling, braking and acceleration are excellent better than my previous Mercury Grand Marquis V8. Auto wipers are somewhat intermittent in operation and sometimes not as effective as they should be. Second row seats have good leg room, third row seats are tight for adults. Heated, cooled and massage front seats are great for a long drive. Ford should offer a running board option as vehicle is a high step up without running boards. The only negatives on the platinum model that I have found are the lack of fitted running boards and the Ford MySync Touch being the older Sync system. The phone Bluetooth functions are limited to read text and no speech to text function available. The brake assist should be improved to not just flash warning bar and increase brake response but system should apply brakes to stop vehicle. Review at 9 Months 6800 miles: After several long trips I still love this car, heated /cooled massage seats reduce long trip stiffness, versatility of use with 4X4, fold down seats, roof rack & class III allow use in any trip. Trip to mountains with seven passengers was comfortable for everyone and kids loved the third row seats. Only negative is automatic wiper function which I may just turn off in the settings options. Wipers for no reason dry wipe on a very intermittent bases.
