Dual airbags top the changes for the redesigned Explorer. Integrated child safety seats are optional on four-door models. Exterior changes include new sheet metal, headlights, grille, taillights and side moldings. The Control-Trac four-wheel-drive system automatically sends power to front wheels if it senses rear-wheel slippage. This feature can be locked in for full-time four-wheeling.

  Expensive Ride - 1995 Ford Explorer

  Bought my Eddie Bauer Explorer used with 47,000 miles on it. First year was great, but after that, everything started breaking. This is the most expensive vehicle maintenance-wise that I have ever owned. The electrical system has numerous "gremlin" type problems, fuel economy is not great and the ride has always been less than smooth. Definitely not a "Suburban-like" ride. Added to this, I had to replace the transmission at 106,000 miles. I changed transmission fluid every 5-7K miles, and this should not have happened. Also, Ford never fixed the faulty rear-main seal configuration for this engine, so a small oil leak is the norm. Recommend against it unless you just love spending money on repairs.

  I have a 95 "Exploder", yes an exploder. It only has 94,000 miles on the OD and Ive had to replace the transmission twice on it. The first time was at 37,000 miles which was 1,000 miles past warranty and Ford only picked up half of the replacement. The second time the transmission guys are telling me that the solenoids werent replaced when the transmission was changed and most likely contributed to the failure this second time. Never again will I purchase from this company because its true Ford stands for FIX OR REPAIR DAILY.
