You cant beat the great handling and powerful VR6 engine! I love putting the windows down, opening the moonroof and just letting it all hang out.

Somwehere between the sun-roof, the cruise control, the 12-radiostation memory, the curvatures of its body and the super spacious trunk, I discovered this car was the best decision ever!!!

  • Love my Jetta VR6 - 1998 Volkswagen Jetta

A very reliable and fun car to drive. The VR6 enigine is very zippy as I hug the turns like a high priced sports car. Many cars on the road give me a double take as my Jetta zips on by them with ease. For the price this car rocks!

  • The best car ever - 1998 Volkswagen Jetta

This car has been ASWOME! it has 78k on it and have done nothing to it beside routine mantince that had to be done on the car. i have a 5 speed and it really goes for a small engine. I street raced a lot of cars and beat a lot of smaller cars and could even stay up with v-6 camaro, and the mustang. Great gas milage around 45 to 50 in town. If you want a good car buy this one!

  • The good and the bad...... - 1998 Volkswagen Jetta

I bought my Jetta GLS new in November, 1997 and now have approximately 145,000 miles on it. Over that time it has needed a few repairs, but nothing hideous. The car is still an absolute blast to drive. The acceleration with the manual 5- speed is excellent and the handling is still tight. I havent experienced the "stiff shifting" quality cited in some reviews. The car definately encourages "spirited" driving, giving the driver the same sense of connectedness with the road as the BMW 3-Series and the Audi A4 for thousands of dollars less. Its interior and exterior design are really attractive and have stood up over time, the car still looks great. Overall, a durable, and stylish ride.

  • awesome diesel - 1998 Volkswagen Jetta
    By -

this is the most reliable car that i have ever owned, and the funnest that i have ever driven. People are amazed when I fill up at the diesel pump( which doesnt happen often, 50 mpg). I say diesel and people think of big rigs. When its on the road people are amazed at the acceleration and pull of the little engine. I have pulled u-haul trailers with it while moving, and pulled away from other mid size sedans while running down the road. It has been ROCK solid reliable and has always been there.

  • The VW Experience Part 2 - 1998 Volkswagen Jetta
    By -

I have always loved Volkswagen since my high school days of driving my VW beetle that was two years older than me. After graduating college and working in the real world, I finally got out of debt from my previous clunker car (of the Ford variety) and was able to save enough money to purchase my OWN NEW CAR! I knew it had to be a VW and it had to be fast for the big city of Houston (as I have to merge with freeway and highway traffic as effectively as possible). The VR6 Jetta GLX has been the answer to my driving prayers.

  • Great Car - 1998 Volkswagen Jetta

I bought the car used with 103,000 miles on it in 2004. The paint is still very shiny (exclusive to wolfsburg painting techniques) and the suspension, wheel bearings and other components were still in great condition. The car has decent pickup for a 4-cyl. (faster than my honda) and the 5 speed transmission works beautifully. The engine idles very smoothly and is very reliable. My clutch did however go out at about 107,000 miles which is normal. I get many complements about my car and I love it. The only problem is the door trim, which any able bodied person can fix for 4 dollars by buying a tube of automotive adhesive. Install NEUSPEED products!
