This Year's Model Updates:

A 20th Anniversary edition includes the 227-horsepower version of the standard 3.0-liter V6 from the Infiniti I30, as well as goodies like bronze-lensed headlight covers, a body kit, ersatz carbon-fiber interior trim, drilled metal pedals and a number of features normally optional on the SE. This special model also gets an exclusive color: Majestic Blue. A new Meridian package is optional on all Maximas, bundling side-impact airbags and a low washer fluid indicator with heated front seats and side mirrors, as well as special trunk lid trim. Adding optional traction control to the SE or GLE results in a Z Edition Maxima, for some zany reason.

Pros:
  • Silky and powerful V6 engine, sports car moves, room for the whole family.
Cons:
  • Odd styling details, high price, rough ride quality with SE suspension.

  • I love this car - 2001 Nissan Maxima

Purchased new in 2001 (built in Japan), low mileage (55k), regular maintenance, well cared for, interior great. In six years, not a single item has failed and have only replaced crappy stock Potenzas tires. New Yoko Avid 4Vs great all season performer. Driving on snow and ice still marginal, but not designed for ice/snow performance. Ergonomics are excellent, cockpit is well designed and comfortable. Bose sounds great. I drive spirited and the 5 speed w/3.0 liter V6 (legendary engine) offers excellent performance and descent fuel economy 22/27. Not a drop of oil in engine compartment. Will need brakes soon and other 60k maintenance. I love this car and will keep it for years. Excellent value.

  • Wouldnt hesitate to get another - 2001 Nissan Maxima

My first Nissan experience was a bust...Quest van had so many problems I swore never look at another Nissan. Then I sold them for a time and drove them everyday. Renault has turned Nissan around. I no longer sell Nissans but I have no reservation of going back for another Maxima when this lease is up. It is far and away the best car on the road. The SE manual is a blast to drive. I got luxury car and sports car rolled into one.

I bought my 01 Nissan Maxima brand-new. I have loved it up to now, it has recently gone out of warranty, and has had some problems. I had problems with the starter..etc. I also slide around in the snow, . Lving in Chicago I need to drive my husbands Jeep around. This car has good looks and a lot of power. I now have 40,000 miles on it and it is worth only $11,000. It has deprectiated very quickly. Also my friends Lexus SUV gets better gas mileage than my Maxima.

  • Maxima SE 2001 - Not So Good - 2001 Nissan Maxima
    By -

I know numerous people that love their Maxima, but Im not one of them. Heres why: 1) CD was bad when purchased and had to be replaced 2) O2 sensors were bad and took 5 trips for the dealer to fix. 3) Paint on front bumper doesnt handle road debris well. Looks like its peeling and very unsightly. 4) Alternator just replaced at 55K miles (car isnt 3 yrs old yet). Contacted Nissan about covering it (warranty)anyway - they asked a bunch of useless questions to determine if I was worth bothering with and refused to help. 5) SE model tires are very expensive. OEM tires (Michelins) perform bad in moderate rain. I will NEVER buy another Nissan again.

Great car and fun to drive. Combines good looks, performance and comfort. Anything less is unacceptable, anything more is unnecessary.

  • Mixed results - 2001 Nissan Maxima

Bought the car new (13 miles on it) from the dealer. For the most part the car performed well. 26,393 - driver side window stopped (warranty). 44,749 - engine warning light (catalytic converter replaced). 46,356 - engine warning light (catalytic converter replaced again). 56,784 - seat belt light (dealer convinced me I needed a new battery). Seat belt light came back on within 10 miles of leaving the dealership. Warranty expired 60,968 - replaced seat belt sensor. Later issues (after 5yrs, like clock work): back left tire bearing tie rod rear calipers struts. I should have gotten out between 4 and 5 yrs. After that things really started to fall apart.

Love the 222 hp. and the suspension is fantastic. Interior is well laid out, especially convenient are the radio controls on the steering wheel. Chain link drive belt is a plus for reliability. Plenty of room for a family of four (mine).

  • STYLISH AND AWESOME - 2001 Nissan Maxima

I HAVE OWENED 4 MAXIMAS PRIOR TO THE PURCHASE OF 2001. This vehicle unbelievably reliable. The hadling and performance are out of this world. The 2001 body style makes the Maxima a real sports sedan especially with 17 inch wheels. The comfort and cabin space are execllent. This isnt any other vehicle that I would purchase. I plan to keep the 2001 for 10 years.

  • FANTASTIC AUTOMOBILE!!! - 2001 Nissan Maxima
    By -

Bought my GLE in July,03 with 69,000 miles on it from a Houston dealer for $11,450. No oil used between changes. Lots of adjustments for seats, great lumbar support, like sitting in a fine chair in your home. Bose stereo is just incredible. Gas mileage: 23-27 mpg mostly city, but engine is so responsive it is hard to lay off of it. VERY comfortable and smooth ride with GLE suspension. Good legroom in rear with cupholders all over. Stereo controls on steering wheel a great convenience/safety feature. Auto trans is smooth as can be, no comparison to American cars like my brothers Buick LeSabre and Chrysler 300M. Great car!
