  • AWESOME 97 MAXIMA GLE - 1997 Nissan Maxima

...bought my 97 Maxima GLE in Sep of 97, 14.3 years ago, and it has been the best car ever! There have been no major expenses/repairs outside of basic maintenance and minor wear & tear part replacement. The engine light didnt even go on until my 13th year of owning it and, even then, the repair cost was minimal. ...am about to hit 232,000 miles and had the goal to see if it could make 400,000 (had heard of an owner that did hit 400K). However, the 0% financing Nissan is currently offering drew me in so I am now selling my Maxima. Tears will be shed when "she" is driven away.

I have driven the 5 speed manual maxima se for 7 years and its an incredible car. at 141k miles it still runs strong and has had only 1 significant repair. fuel economy for my highway route is 30 mpg on midgrade fuel. highly recommend this car as tremendously reliable. dont pay a premium for a toyota, just buy the 95- 99 maxima.

  • Great car! - 1997 Nissan Maxima

I loved this car from day 1, and I still love this car on day 4,655. It has always been a reliable car, never let us down. Nissan may not have built the most beautifully designed Maxima in 1997, but it sure built a fun to drive, sturdy one. We finally decided to buy a new one, and let this one go to someone else. We couldnt buy any other car. We bought a 2010 Maxima.

  • So reliable! - 1997 Nissan Maxima

Nissan built a fun to drive, ridiculously reliable vehicle in 1997. We are the original owners of this 13 yo car, and never had any major issues. It has always performed, never let us down, lots of power under the hood, and there are absolutely no complaints here. It was the most eye popping exterior design year for the Maxima, but it has to be one of their best in durability. I have loved it from day 1, and I still love it on day 4,655. We finally decided to get a new car. So what did we buy? Another Maxima! And it will be ours for the next 15 years.

I bought this car from my mechanic last year when my 95 Camry became too expensive to repair. I was leary because the car had 243K miles on it; but my mechanic said it would most likely go to 300K. Im at 254K now and have had no problems at all. The car is so quiet that I sometimes think it has stalled. It has the original stereo, which I hate, and the interior could have been better maintined (I think the last owner always drove with the sun roof open..dust and dirt caught in places I cant seem to reach). I cannot complain about this car. Mechanically and speed-wise, I love it. It has been quite reliable.

An OK car; many leaks--transmission; power steering; power brakes. VERY poor heating; balky auto climate control. Not hot enough in the winter and too cold with A/C. Funky shifting from 4th to lockup-- uncomfortable to drive. Knocks no matter what grade of gas is used. Large front A pillars block views--a very poor design element.

Ive owned all foreign cars and this is by far the best ofthem all. Im in sales and drive all the time. I never get tired of hearing the engine or the awesome stereo. I have never had a single problem, even with 200,000 miles. I plan on keeping it to 300,000+ and then buying another one. I love my Maxima!!!

I cant think of a better used car for the money. Great performance with room for 5 people. A lot of fun to drive. My only regret is not getting a manual tranmission.

Been a great car very reliable all I have had to do is replace the stereo (which I guess happened on many of these models) but otherwise no major issues so far.....great mileage for a V6, about 27-28 MPG....power is fine and interior has stayed together well.

  • Best FWD family sedan - 1997 Nissan Maxima
    By -

Ive had the car since Febuary 2004. It doesnt handle too well in the winter like my 91 Maxima did. In the summer, Ive driven over 10,000 miles, with little to no maintenance. This is probably one of, if not the best FWD car on the road, with enough room to seat the family, and enough power to get up and go. Trunk space is great, and there is plenty of head room. Handling is great. Almost every Sunday, I take it up the canyon and open the throttle. Ive been getting 300-330 miles to the tank, and that averages out to 20-24mpg city driving. This is a great car for the family.
