This Year's Model Updates:

All new for 1995, the excellent Maxima receives few changes for 1996. A four-way power passenger seat is available, a new center console cupholder will hold a Big Gulp and two new colors grace the Maxima's decidedly dull flanks. Taillights are as ugly as ever.

  • Great car, very reliable - 1996 Nissan Maxima

Bought my Maxima at 3 years-old and coming off a lease with 30k. Ive driven it 100k in the last 7 years and the car has performed almost flawlessly. Well equipped with leather, moon roof, Bose premium audio and alloys. I drive it as a commuter car in town and a lot of business trips on the highway and it performs great in either case. Maintenance has been routine, minor items (brakes, exhaust, battery, tires). Only hiccup was a new anti-knock sensor that put me back $700. The 3.0L V-6 in these cars might be one of the best drive trains ever built.

This is my second Maxima, I sold the previous one with over 200000 miles, this one is almost there!

  • The Poor Mans 5 Series! - 1996 Nissan Maxima

I own a SE with a 5-speed manual that I love to drive hard. Ive owned this car for nearly six years and drove it over nearly 98K miles, and have never needed any mechanical assistance. No matter how hard Ive driven it, its never left me on the side of the road or begged for anything more than the routine oil change. The car is just a joy to drive and still performs like few cars under $30K can. When I bought it in 96, no family/sports sedan under $30K could. I dubbed this car "The Poor Mans 5-Series" because for those of us who would give their right arm for an M5 (if you didnt need it to shift) but can only afford about $26K worth of car, the Maxima makes for a decent consolation.

This is the best bang for your buck in a 4 door sedan. Fun to drive, great performance. I had no problems until I hit 160K, could go to 200K, but need to move on.

I bought this car for my wife who uses it every day. I have not had to take it back for ANYTHING. Since weve owned it Ive replaced the battery and tires. I would definitley buy it again.

This is my second car I have had. I had a Mitsubishi Mirage but didnt like it and wanted to have a better looking car. This car is awesome. The interior is my favorite part I have black leather and I feel like Im in a town car. The back of the car is a bit boring, but I put 18" chrome rims on it and everyone is like what when I say its a 96. They thinks its a 2003 or something. The car does stall on me occasionally and it does get annoying but I think I just need to clean out the fuel line. I now I have 160,000 miles on it and its a lot faster than people think.

I drive over 30k miles a year and love this car. Drove from Cal to Tenn and got 28+mpg@70+mph. Best stereo in the industry. GLE is much smoother than my wifes 99 GXE with same tires. GREAT car for the money.

  • Hate to sell it - 1996 Nissan Maxima

This car has been fantastic. The only reason Im selling is because I have no need to drive it anymore. Bought a 96 (stick) because several friends had 95s and 97s, and havent had a single problem the entire 50,000 miles Ive driven it. Ride is smooth and fun, interior is comfortable, Bose sound is great, and I think the older body style is better than the newer models. Great deal in a used vehicle, no doubt.

A solidly built, good looking and comfortable car with excellent performance and handling. I owned a 1986 for 10 years and have owned my 1996 for 7 1/2 years. Ill be glad to buy a third.
