This Year's Model Updates:

For 2005, trim levels have been slightly revised, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror with a HomeLink remote transmitter has been added to the LX.

Pros:
  • Excellent warranty, pleasant highway ride, refined V6 engine, lots of storage space.
Cons:
  • Noisy four-cylinder engine, bland interior design and materials, tight rear-seat legroom, tepid handling.

  • Initially Pleased / Later Horrified - 2005 Hyundai Sonata

Happy with look and performance of the car. Attracted by the "best warranty". After 2.5 years have found it to be built CHEAP, plastic that breaks, seats & mats have worn out. Reliability of car is HORRIBLE. In 2.5 years I have spent over $1,000 for service to maintain the warranty, $2,500 for items not covered by the warranty and the warranty has covered over $4,000 of items that have also broke. Reliability issues have been 2 dead batteries, had to replace flywheel, replace clutch - wore out in 21,000 miles, dome light, cup holders cracked, stereo, auto door locks replaced, alternater died, and steering wheel and seats have cracks and tears in them now. Never another Hyundai for me!

I LOVE this car! Ive been spying the Hyundai Sonata from the first time I saw it. Being a person who gets what she needs rather than what she wants...I had to wait untill I needed a new car before I could buy one. I bought my goreous Sonata last month and I am lovinit! It is so sweet. The way it handles...drives on the highway...awesome. It is so good looking and comfortable I feel like Im getting away with something. Do yourself a favor...test drive this sweet ride.

  • Ole Reliable - 2005 Hyundai Sonata

This 2005 Hyundai Sonata was my first car and I loved riding it. Drove it many miles never did I encounter any roadside problems. This car is reliable in the purest form, it gives first time drivers a luxury experience at a low cost price, with amenities that other first car drivers do not experience (power windows, sunroof, power seats, etc). The only trouble I ran into with this car was that only a minimal amount of times the muffler would either rust out or flat out break, and the antenna that goes up and down every time the car starts. The car is great and I would recommend this to any first time driver.

  • Beware Windshield Wipers - 2005 Hyundai Sonata
    By -

Hyundai wont admit this and the dealership says its a recurring issue and nothing can be done...the windshield wipers just stop working....rain or snow. Its a MAJOR safety issue and there is no remedy. Ive owned two Hyundais and Ill NEVER buy another. Unless you want to jeopardize your life or the life of you children, dont buy this vehicle unless this problem is permanently remedied by Hyundai.

1- Dashboard hardware falls apart 2- Excessive tire wear even though dealer maintained - rotate and balanced. 31000 miles on car now and it is ready for tires 3- This is the third flat tire I have had 4- Windshield wiper mechanism fails often 5- For some reason tail lights burn out often, this is the second time. 6- Automatic side view mirrors do not operate well....they move but not enough. 7- I would not buy another Hyundai

  • Great Value - 2005 Hyundai Sonata

My wife and I have had this car for two years. My two children have had older Sonatas and we all would buy another. Drives and feels like a more expensive car. Had a BMW and think this is a much better car considering the price difference. Have never had it back in the shop for anything. Never did like the exterior, but the new models are very nice.

  • My 3rd Hyundai sonata - 2005 Hyundai Sonata

I crashed my 03 Sonata it was a total loss (no injuries to anyone in my car). Bought an 04 and loved it, but saw the 05 GLS SV model with the bigger rims, homelink, sunroof and fell in love so I bought it. I still own my 1994 Excel and it runs great.

I never really liked Hyundais but took one out for a test drive and fell in love..It is fun to drive and the dealorship bent over backwards to make the deal work. Exceptional Quality and very good price

  • Love of Sonata - 2005 Hyundai Sonata

This is my second hyundai sonata, and I can say that, without a doubt, Sonatas are great vehicles. The power of the 4 cylinder is unlike any other, and the ride is smooth. It handles corners that other cars have to slow down for. I must say it is a good car for a single person, or for a small family. With loads of storage, and extra power ports for coolers, dvd players, or any such travel device, it is worth the money. with 10 year 100,000 first owner warranty, and 5 year 60,000 second owner warranty, it is definitely worth the money.
