Overview & Reviews
The Sonata gets only minor trim changes for 2001, such as a new grille design and some tweaks to the rear deck lid. Additional features are ladled onto the standard equipment list.
- Excellent warranty, stylish sheetmetal, lots of bang for your family-sedan buck.
- Noisy four-cylinder engine, breathless optional V6.

Would never Buy again - 2001 Hyundai Sonata
By hyundaihater - September 7 - 1:48 pmMom gave me this car and what a lemon.though it lasted me through college, cost me tons of money for repairing. Timing belt broke at 53000 miles out of nowhere, had to get a new engine at this time, luckily under warranty after showing massive proof of oil change records.had to get new breaks every year and a couple months later would squeal like a pig the minute i stepped on breaks. Terrible rotors or terrible work by mechanics ill never know. Check engine light comes on intermittently. Luckily, i will never deal with this again as im now a college grad wholl be able to avoid a hyundai now and forever. Am very grateful to have had a car that got me from point a to b. So thanks.

Say NO to Hyundai - 2001 Hyundai Sonata
By Bob - June 20 - 5:52 pmBeware of chronic "check engine" warnings. Prepare to pay hundreds and hundreds of dollars for faulty sensors: input and output. Hyundai will capture the public with a low/reasonable price tag but the REAL cost of ownership begins the day you take it home from the dealer. NEVER, NEVER AGAIN hyundai!

Great Warranty, but needed it too often! - 2001 Hyundai Sonata
By talie - August 18 - 2:00 amI bought this car because of the price and the warranty and those were the reasons I liked it. Until sensors started going out, the airbag light was on, rotors went bad, and I had to have it hauled to the dealer too often for my liking. Dealer was great, they repaired it nicely and really stood by the car, but it hasnt been as reliable as I need a car to be. Its at the dealer now. ANOTHER sensor went out at 53,000 miles. This is the last time Im doing this. As soon as I get it back from the repair shop Im trading in before the warranty expires because this particular car really needed the warranty to make it worth keeping.

unhappy camper - 2001 Hyundai Sonata
By jmsmin - October 22 - 2:00 amThis car had more problems than can be explained in 700 words. Briefly, the air conditioner compresser gutted at about 8,000 miles, the engine would die and not restart, (a sensor they said), the engine jumped time and when it was returned, died the nest day. It was towed 9 times and spent as much time in the shop as on the road. At 36,000 miles the engind jumped time again and would not run, the dealer would not fix the problem, and I returned the car to them. I was out down payment and year and half of payments on a car that was at best a piece of junk. No more Hyundais for me.
