This Year's Model Updates:

The Elantra received a slight refresh for this year in the form of a new hood, deck lid, front and rear bumpers, grille, headlamps and taillights. Interior revisions include a redesigned instrument cluster, vents, center console and climate controls. The engine has been fitted with continuously variable valve timing, and it is now sold in SULEV or ULEV configurations (depending on the state in which it's purchased) which offer horsepower ratings of 138 and 132, respectively. The base GLS model now offers remote keyless entry as standard equipment, while GT models now have a Kenwood CD/MP3 audio system as standard.

Pros:
  • Solidly built, powerful engine for its class, plenty of standard features, ultralow price tag, long warranty.
Cons:
  • Poor offset crash test score, antilock brakes available only as a package option.

i bought my 2001 hyundai elantra in march of 2001 i put so far 60,000 miles on it so far and dont really take that great of care of it and it still runs great. it gets wonderful gas mileage and it seats 4 adults quite comfortably. i only had one problem with it so far and that is the headlight bulbs dont last more than a year but they are cheap to replace. u can purchase them at kmart for 7 dollars each. i highly reccomend this car to anyone.

Its the best comfortable ride I have ever been in, with such a great price such as the Elantra. You couldnt find a better car then the Elantra with the price range.

Bought the car for going back and forth to work. Occasionally picking up the children.

Bought my GT used in Oct 2005. The car has ample power off the line and for passing on the highway. The ride is quiet, and the Sport Tuned Suspension improves handling over the GLS. The interior has held up very well in the time I have had it. Plenty of room in the back, I actually fit four girls back there during a night on the town. Hyundai really dropped the ball eliminating the GT sedan in 2006. The current SE model offers a lot of the same features, but it does not handle as well as the GT and the electric steering does not give the same feedback.

  • Great Car - Better than an Acura - 2004 Hyundai Elantra

I have had no problems with this $15,000 car in my 3+ years of ownership which is more than I can say for my $40,000 Acura MDX. Other than the Passenger Airbag Sensor recall, this car has not been in for repairs other than the regular scheduled. The MDX has had several recalls for major items - power steering pump, transmission. Also had a cracked fuel tank pipe. Its really too bad that Hyundai is still getting penalized for being Korean and Acura/Honda gets high praise for being Japanese. Ill buy another Hyundai before a Honda/Acura product.

I like the fact that we got a good four door car for less than other cars with a great warranty. We looked at Kias and Hyundai had better standard features. Hyundai matched and beat Kia by $700, how can you turn that down? Power locks and windows and A/C standard, cant beat that!

  • best car in its class - 2004 Hyundai Elantra

this is our second Hyundai, my husband has a 2000 Elantra as well. you cant beat the warranty...you cant beat the preice...all in all, Hyundai is the car to buy if you are just looking for a family sedan or a car to commute in.

Ive had the car for about a month and I love it! Im glad I did my research before assuming this car was junk just because its a Hyundai. If you notice, there arent many on the road which makes me feel good. Its great not to be a sheep and follow everyone else to the Honda, Nissan and Toyota dealers. Im a lifer for Hyundai!
