  • Honda Quality isnt what it used to be! - 2016 Honda Odyssey
    By -

After loving my 2005 Odyssey for almost 12 years I decided it was time to update. I didnt put a lot of time into research because I knew what I wanted. Well you know what they say about assuming. I assumed that the new Odyssey would be as good if not better than my last version; I was unfortunately wrong. First, the only way I could get both Navi & Rear Entertainment is to upgrade to a Touring; even though that combination used to be available on the EX-L. Fine, I can upgrade. I will start with the changes I find inconvenient. There are at least 4 cup holders missing; 2 in the front that used to pop down from bottom of the dash and the two on the sides of 2nd row seats. There is no good spot for kids in the second row to put their drinks. The tray on the center console is very shallow; it is not even deep enough to hold a stack of mail. There is a large storage box in the center console now, but it is so deep it is not realistic to go digging in there while you are driving; and to open it up means you cant store anything on the top tray. There is now only one glove box, rather than two; I found the little glove box was just right for registration and insurance cards, now just throw them in the big hole. The hidden compartment in the floor of the second row is now gone. With the old version of the rear entertainment system, it was one button push to control it from the front; that is not the case in the new version. The entire menu / control system is very difficult to use; no longer a quick touch but now you must dial and toggle and dial some more, and then go find the button to push. Fortunately my kids are now big enough to control it from the back but I dont think it would be doable with younger children (which surprisingly was the big selling point over the Toyota when I bought my first one). It is nice to be able to synch your phone and you can even voice tag your most used contacts. Only problem is that the voice tags dont seem to work, it actually brings up every person with a J in their name except for the one I want, even though that person is my number one favorite. Now for the more serious concerns. The windshield had a very bad distortion, so much so that I had a headache the entire day after I drove it to work. Imagine wearing someone elses glasses or looking through a fish bowl; that was the effect. Every person I had get in the driver seat saw it (except those at the dealer). Now today, the first time I use the windshield wipers because it rained, the passenger side wiper arm pops off while I am driving. I have only had the car for about 10 days, but if this an indication of Hondas quality I am concerned.

  • Poor cargo option - 2016 Honda Odyssey
    By -

Middle seats are supposed to come out for cargo hauling. I find it impossible to get them in or out without dealer assistance even with the user manual. Why make the seat design too difficult for users to operate? On that subject, the entertainment center is way too complex for the driver to navigate while driving. Surprised that Honda would do this. These items put a big damper on an otherwise nice vehicle.

  • Loved our first, but this one was a mistake - 2016 Honda Odyssey

There is less room up front on these newer models both passenger side and driver side. Removing the rear seats is still extremely frustrating, but the technology on the van is what is most frustrating. I generally give up any anything I want to do that involves the electronics including adjusting heating and cooling, music, radio, video etc. I can normally figure these things out quickly, not on this vehicle. Also, you get wireless earphones for the video play. They have never worked right. The plugs for earphones are on one side of the car in the back. So my boys need to share earbuds and one has to sit in the middle seat in order for them to reach. Our first Odessey was great, I really regret buying this car. It makes my blood boil every time I get into it.

  • noisy and bouncy, bad transmission - 2016 Honda Odyssey
    By -

Ive had this 2016 Odyssey EX for a couple weeks, my first minivan. Frankly, I am really surprised at how harsh and jittery the ride is. I think "busy" is how it can best be described. The wind and road noise is bad enough, but why in a vehicle this large do I feel like Im bouncing down the road in a Toyota Yaris? Every road imperfection is transmitted to the cabin. I understand that people like a car to have some road feel, but do I need to know about every single 2cm crack and smidgen of gravel? What a frustration! Why would anyone want so much vibration transmitted to a vehicle that is principally used for hauling children? Why? Why? The van came from the dealer with tires over-inflated to 40+, so I reduced them to recommended pressure, but to no noticeable difference in ride quality. I am really surprised and upset that this is the best tire/suspension setup the geniuses at Honda were able to come up with. My 2012 Camry has a much more comfortable highway ride without feeling at all floaty. Im surprised that the professional reviews of the Odyssey so seldom mention its terrible ride quality. Is it just that everyone has gotten used to it? Ugh. So I really have to warn you people who are still shopping... if you are planning to take any long trips, make sure you THOROUGHLY test the highway ride of this Odyssey against the Sienna and Sedona (as I did not). I dont mean take a test ride on the highway for a cursory 3 minutes --- I mean take it out for at least 20 minutes on both smooth and rough highway. Pay attention to what you are feeling, and imagine feeling that for a 3-hour drive. You have been warned! If I were to do it again, I would seriously consider the Sienna. Also, the transmission. I dont know. It doesnt let the vehicle coast. If you get stuck are in traffic and you want to coast a little while until traffic stops again, the transmission wont let you. It will slow the car down to a stop. So you need to keep your foot on the gas to keep the car going at 5mph. Why? Who knows? Is this why Odyssey transmissions seem to die early? I dont know. Do I sound like I am happy with this purchase? In summary, yes, the Odyssey is car-like to drive. And thats what my wife wanted. And maybe thats all you need if you are driving it to the local school and playground. But for driving on the highway? Ugh. I think you will want something else!

  • Its ok...read and youll see why - 2016 Honda Odyssey
    By -

Been a Honda/Acura owner many times over. Acura RDX, 2 Accords, Civics, Pilot..so, I know my Hondas. And usually Im very, very happy with my purchase. So, after having second baby I decide a mini van would be a helpful choice as I am petite and loading a car seat would be much easier. At the time I had a fully loaded 2015 Nissan Platinum & had to be on my tip toes to put the car seat in. I looked at Toyota & Honda to compare and went with the Honda. Of course. I do like the overall appearance of the OD but was a little worried about not having AWD for CT winters. Anyways, Ive had it for 9 months now and feel I can write this review fairly. After leasing, which Im glad I did. I was actually excited to get it home. So, here are my pros and cons. The pros-the space! It is truly amazing how much you can fit in the van..grocery store/whole sale club kids, dog, strollers..I will give it that! Gas mileage is on point!! Another plus!! And ease for a three year old to climb in and enjoys the big windows and auto doors! The 3rd row is very roomy and comfy for adults!! The cons, no AWD..come on Honda (that is why I was looking at Toyota) Awful entertainment/console with pairing with iPhone, extremely frustrating when driving to operate, from changing songs to phone calls, and Im on my game with tech. Cant move seat to get to third row/so you have remove and store to get to 3rd...that commercial on tv is so right! Creaking tailgate, annoying tailgate alarm...that you cant shut off/the whole neighborhood hears you when you get home late at night! Acceraleration-when needing to move, it bucks. Definitely not a smooth transition. Height position of driver seat-when my husband drives feels like hes way too high and head is close to the ceiling. Minimal alert when low on gas, it beeps once (kids talking, music on-you wont hear it) and if you miss it...only your common sense will let you know how low you really are. Basically meaning if you look down and its orange..god only knows how long its been on. And then when you get gas and click(S) the cap like your suppose to sometimes an alert will stay on. The back up camera is awful on so many levels..one thing Nissan has is that 360 degree camera which should be standard on every car on the planet! Actually beeps when getting close to something. I actually have to open my honda door get out and look..eye roll. I actually could go on..but, Im going to stop. Im rating it a 3 stars because the overall day to day stuff gets under your skin & quick. And that overrides my decision. Ive kinda been bummed for the past few months with our choice. So, if you need space this is it. But, if your thinking of getting a mini van loaded go with the touring. As the lesser trim levels are not so good, well for us. We have the EX-L & back in the day of the old trim levels EX-L didnt exist/but, now its just an upgrade of leather. If you need roof racks you have to get the touring, if you want charging tools for your company in 3rd, you have to get the touring. Where Im going with this...is..for the price you can get a loaded AWD/4x4 Platinum with wayyyy more stuff in it-then a kid wagon. Step up your game Honda-this mini is boring and that overhaul is taking wayyyy too long!! I think Nissan will be getting our business next time around. I do miss my platinum amazing snow handling 2 wheel, AWD and a 4x4, unbelievable access to the 3rd row with car seats in, heated seats in both rows, double moon roofs, storage, off the chart nav, iPhone, 360 cam, all accessible from steering wheel, alarms when carts, people and stuff behind you, gas mileage, the works! Come on baby, turn front facing so mama can get back to an SUV!

  • Honda Infotainment System Like 2016 Flip Phone - 2016 Honda Odyssey
    By -

If car manufacturers are going to bombard interiors with standard electronics, the performance of infotainment systems will be a large part of my review. As such, the Honda Infotainment system in my 2016 Odyssey seems to be 5-6 years behind what I would expect in a new vehicle today. There is a wonderful wide screen on the dash and a touch screen lower down. When you test drive you are thinking, wow! that is pretty cool. But, you can only try so much of the Infotainment system on a test drive. So, after purchase when you sync your phone to your new van and realize, wait!....no Android Auto availability! It is available in other 2016 Honda offerings, but missing in the 2016 Odyssey. So the cool wide screen display on the dash is kind of worthless other than showing the Pandora song that is playing, or your trip computer information. So...overall the electronics are flashy but near worthless. Overall, the controls of the Odyssey Infotainment are clunky, slow to respond, and require far too much "eyes off the road" time. This is my second Odyssey, so other things Ive noticed are.....this van has much more road noise than my 2008 Odyssey. Dealer on the test drive suggested to turn up the radio....LOL. Also, the body quarter-panels and hood on this appear to be plastic or some other non-metal material and probably contributes to the added road noise. Cabin body panels are still metal. Overall, though, it still has good interior utility, decent interior materials (far better than the Sienna which I looked very closely at.) I like the drive and seat comfort of my 2016 Odyssey compared to my 2008. Overall, Im not disappointed in my purchase....it is still a great family mover. Im just disappointed/disenchanted that the electronics are so prevalent in the dash, but seriously lacking in useful functionality.

  • Why - 2016 Honda Odyssey

Operating the features is unnecessarily difficult. The controls for talk or text is difficult and unsafe

  • Did I get a lemon? - 2016 Honda Odyssey
    By -

Walked out one day and the running board on the drivers sides was hanging down. Didnt get hit or hit anything. Did drive over a dirt road with washboards. I was able to clip it back on but dont trust that it will stay on. Then washing my car I noticed some of the clips on my font bumper were overlapping and visible (they should not be visible). Again I didnt hit anything. Perhaps some one backed into me but couldnt find any marks on the bumper. Then notced the back bumper on one side looked to be pulling away. The only thing I think that could have caused it is driving on a dirt road. Seems like it should be built to withstand that. Second issue is poor sound system. I have the SE model with the rear entertainment system. Well kids keep complaining that they cant hear the movie when I put the sound through the car speakers. Guess what there arent any speakers in the back. What was Honda thinking on this one. This is my second Honda odyssey, loved the first, drove it for 200K miles over 10 years. Bought a new 2016 and seriously regret it.

  • Bought 2017 Chrysler Pacifica vs2016 Honda Odyssey - 2016 Honda Odyssey
    By -

As of September 2016, Honda has no information on their 2017 models. 2016 model pricing is very high. I bought a 2017 Chrysler Pacifica miniVan because it has Stow & Go foldable second row seats.
