  • Many problems - 2001 Honda Odyssey

We bought this van new in Aug of 2001. Within the first 6 months we began experiencing problems with it. The light behind the dash board went out, the automatic doors began sticking, and the transmission began slipping. This van is at the shop every 6 months for some type of issue. I have taken it to the dealership for the transmission at least five different times. Now at 117,400 miles, the transmission goes out and Honda will bck up their product at all. There has been a class action lawsuit because the transmissions are faulty. I expected more from a Honda than constant small problems and a broken transmission. i have never experienced these problems with my Toyotas.

  • HONDA transmission failure at100K miles! - 2001 Honda Odyssey

I have a 2001 Honda Odyssey Van. I have maintained it according to all of the dealership recommendations and opted for all Honda advised work/repairs and scheduled maintenance since I purchased the van. The transmission failed at 100k miles! The service rep stated the several Honda vans have had a similar issue with the transmission. Honda did not offer a cent of assistance in this replacement. I relied on Hondas reputation for years and now I find that Honda will not stand by the quality of their vehicle and my cost is now $4,700.00 plus.

  • Tranny advice and comments - 2001 Honda Odyssey

Trannies are the weak link in ALL vehicles and especially VANS and MINIVANS. Most people dont realize this and push it to the limit abusing and breaking it prematurely. Be gentle with the tranny and will last much longer than did for others. Tip - find (feel) the changing spots and take the leg off the gas just before gear change. i.e. after 20km/h, 40,80)

At 60,000, the air conditioning went completely out. Were not talking a simple adjustment - the entire air conditioning had to be replaced to the tune of $2500.00. The bearings ground themselves to splinters of metal and shot through the lines, into the evaporator. No one at the dealership had ever seen anything like it. My warranty company sent 3 adjusters in just to see something they had never heard of before. At 68,000 miles, the entire transmission had to be replaced. Though Honda covered that, they didnt cover the engine mounts that had to be replaced as well. Thank goodness for the warranty company who picked up the $350.00 tab on that one. The only problem is that the "new" trans

  • Buy an extended aftermarket warranty - 2001 Honda Odyssey
    By -

Transmission bad at 37k. Canadian dealer replaced it but that one was no good. Same dealer replaced it again. Now, the new one is no good either and the dealer isnt willing to help anymore. Honda Can. wont help since the van was bought from dealer who imported it into USA after it was sold new in Canada. Guess I got a gray market rig. Local Honda service guy says theyre replacing all the trannys in these. Power doors work ok but scare us. If there is no power, the manual open option is very difficult - impossible for a child. If you needed to get out faster than the snail pace of the power door - too bad. Why do the editors love this vehicle? Its been nothing but trouble for us.

  • Engine leak - 2001 Honda Odyssey
    By -

Problems began also with doors stuck frequently, loose seals on doors, and needing new brakes at 20k and 40k. At 3 years and 2 months, engine leak and then 2 mo later transmission failure. Oversease Warranty is 3 yr/36k mile, so will be very expensive fix!!!

  • dissatified honda first time buyer - 2001 Honda Odyssey

I bought this Honda Odyssey EX as my first Honda because I had heard about Honda reliability but I am very disappointed. I am on my third transmission. Luckily I have extended warranty but who needs a car that is not dependable. I had to wait one week each time for them to get rebuilt transmissions installed. If they know that it is a recurring problem with many owners, they could at least stock one transmission at each dealership. I also have problem with automatic sliding door on driver side. It sticks sometimes. This is my first and last Honda.

  • Think Twice Before Buying! - 2001 Honda Odyssey

We purchased this vehicle & 100 miles later the CHECK ENGINE & TCS light came on. Took it back to COMMUNITY HONDA where we purchased it 5 days previously & was told that they already had the rebuilt transmission, that the previous owners brought it in 10 days prior to the sale & decided to trade it in instead of pay for a new transmission.Meanwhile, Community Honda certified the vehicle, ordered a transmission but never put it in & put the van on the lot to sell. When confronted they offered to give us $100.00 & said they didnt know. We demanded to cancel our contract & are in the process of returning the vehicle! Very unethical!!

  • Watch out for the - 2001 Honda Odyssey

We ordered this car with all the bells and whistles. Probably should have taken one off the lot...We are on our 2nd transmission (with problems as well) and the power doors have continually been a problem since year two. Navigation system needs updating through Honda, but I have to do all the work in obtaining a disc (whats up with that?) Have been told "off the record" that Honda made these so quickly that many have had similar problems. We loved our Accord back in the late 80s and thought Honda was a reliable name. I wont be buying another and am looking for its replacement!
