Overview & Reviews
Second- and third-row seats get new child seat-tether anchors, stereo speakers are upgraded, an intermittent feature for the rear window wiper is added and floor mats are made standard. LX models get a driver seat height adjuster and traction control, while EX models benefit from a new alarm feature for the remote control. A brighter Starlight Silver paint color replaces Canyon Stone Silver.
- Transmission hesitates when downshifting, dearth of low-end torque, leather seating not available, no optional on-board entertainment center, slow power sliding doors.

Cant judge a car by its maker - 2001 Honda Odyssey
By Patty Marria - August 24 - 4:32 pmWithout hesitatation we purchased a 2001 Odessey from an individual. The van had no previous warranty work at all. At that time it had 40,000. It started making a horrible groaning sound. It was taken to the dealership 4 times with no prognosis. Info was later given me at a Shell gas station, about bad brake drums on my model. They were not recalled but a Tech. Bulletin had come out in 2003 which recommended replacing drums. We did that at our expense 2 wks ago. We just took a 1600 mile trip, half way back the transmission went out. Our van is now 8 hours away from our home awaiting a new transmission. After much research, we have found Honda has lots of bad transmissions out there.

Honda fails miserably with the Odyssey - 2001 Honda Odyssey
By Mark - July 24 - 11:34 pmI have had more problems with this van than any other vehicle I have owned. I purchased it based on the Honda name and now realize that even Honda can make a lemon. Definitely avoid the 1999-2001 model years and get the 2002 and later years. The interior is spartan with hard seats that are not too comfortable on a long ride The side doors have a problem with sticking in the winter. Im on transmission number two...which has just failed. The original tires lasted only about 32,000 miles. The EGR valve is a problem on the 2001. Honda did a poor job on the 2001 Odyssey.

The van - 2001 Honda Odyssey
By Big dog - July 21 - 2:36 amThis is a pretty good van. It is very reliable (60k miles and no problems). I like the sleek look of it and its power for passing. It is much more reliable than vans made by Chrysler, but lacks the nice bells and whistles (although they break anyway). It also has high resale and the power doors are fun to mess with. Mileage is awful!

Nice Van... Poor Gas Mileage - 2001 Honda Odyssey
By drowe - June 25 - 10:00 amThe van overall has been great. We are now driving it oversees (Naples Italy) and the car handles nicely at 90 - 100mph on the autostrada. While in the states and our first 3 months in Italy, the gas mileage was really poor! 14 - 15 in the city... 20 - 21 on the

Best Minivan - 2001 Honda Odyssey
By JD - June 7 - 4:06 pmWe bought new after owning a Windstar, and looking at Chrysler, Ford and Toyota. Transmission had problems at 600 miles! But the dealer and Honda were all over it, and we had the car back with a new transmission the next day. No problems since, not one. It handles better than any other minivan, no exceptions, and holds more, too. Weve taken 2-3 trips per year of 2000+ miles with two kids and a dog, and I wouldnt try that in any other vehicle but this one.

Best MiniVan Period - 2001 Honda Odyssey
By Binkman - May 13 - 7:16 pmI have owed Oldsmobile and Chryler minivans in the past. I have rented GM minivans. None compare to the new Odyssey. It has power, room and the fold down rear seat is great. Like all Hondas engine has horsepower and good fuel economy

Satisfied but not overwhelmed - 2001 Honda Odyssey
By bangzoom - April 4 - 6:38 pmPurchased new in Feb 2001. Has 73K miles. No major problems, replaced brakes @ 45K. Power Doors stick periodically and warning buzzer alarm goes off occasionally when hitting a bump in the road and wont turn off unless you stop, open and close the doors to reset. Dealer has attempted several times to fix and has not been able. Annoying wind noise over 65mph also can not be fixed by dealer. Light in clock went out @ 37K, and dealer wanted $300 to replace. Ill go timeless at night thank you. Disappointing gas mileage around town (15-16mpg). No breakdowns or major repairs. Overall I am satisfied.

solid value in a used van - 2001 Honda Odyssey
By Daniel Smith - March 21 - 2:52 amWe wanted an Odyssey since they first came out & could finally afford a used one. No problems at all except for poor fuel mileage (15 in town, 18 on highway). Love this van - feels safe & sturdy, rides excellent, handles well. No mechanical problems at all and easy to service. Have changed the air filter, sparkplugs, oil & tranny fluid without a hitch. Cabin air filter was a pain, but youll probably only change that once anyway. Remote power doors are cool, fold down seats work great & interior & cargo room outstanding. Love this van!
