This Year's Model Updates:

Following a complete redesign last year, the 2009 Honda Accord carries over unchanged, though the V6's official engine output is up a smidge after further testing revealed slightly more power than previously measured.

Pros:
  • Ample passenger space, high-quality interior, above-average steering feel, high resale value, available coupe body style.
Cons:
  • Intrusive road noise, button-heavy center stack, some find seats uncomfortable.

  • My First Honda Has Been A Winner - 2009 Honda Accord

Manufacturer advises against a trailer hitch including one that would hold a bike away from your car because it sits low to ground and bumper cover is closer to ground than other years. Dealer told me after purchase, you should always use a flat bed truck for this year model if ever has to be towed otherwise, fiberglass of bump can get damaged. The exterior noise level that can be heard in the car is terrible, especially at high speed. I noticed in the test drive, even with with high frequency hearing loss but did not dismiss the car because of its safety report and history of low repairs over 5 years on this model on the Edmunds website (Sorry, I havent been able to relocate that very useful tool). As an original owner in July 2009 to January 7, 2016, there has been one repair that would have been close to a grand but I had bought the best extended warranty my dealer recommended. Interior is great! Two men have sat in my car at the same time who were ~ 6 feet. Trunk is a dream - holds 4 wheeled carry on bags. It has no navigation but I do not miss it. I love this car as much as I did my three rear wheeled drive Mercury Cougars ( gave up on this one when they went front wheel drive) but now get better miles/gallon. No plans to sell. I tend to hold on to cars 10-16 years. For mostly city driving the noise is not noticeable but on trips of more than an hour of highway, it is miserable because you cannot hear the radio without turning it up loud.

  • A superb quality car - 2009 Honda Accord

My wife absolutely loves her Accord. Its our first Honda car (although weve owned Honda powersports equipment) and we couldnt be more pleased. Purchased at 35,000 miles on the clock and 41,000 miles later, all weve done are oil changes, a new battery, new tires and brakes. The only issue that we were somewhat disappointed in was having to replace the rear brakes at 50,000...and it just wasnt the pads. We had to replace calipers, rotors AND pads. But, some of that could be attributed to the cold, snowy climate that we live in (Northern NY). Other than that, the car has been a joy to own. Surprisingly decent power is supplied by the 2.4L 190 HP 4 cylinder engine and the 5-speed manual transmission. The 5-speed shifts smoothly and is a blast to run through the gears. Inside, the car is very comfortable and the 8-way power seats are wonderful. Its very good in snow IF you run snow tires on it, especially with the 5-speed and front wheel drive. Great sound system with the multi-CD changer & 6 speaker setup. Air conditioning works great as well---you have to wear a jacket if you have it on. The Accord is a very high-quality vehicle, and we would recommend it to anyone. My wife will be back for another one...if I can ever get her to part with this one.

  • 2009 Accord EX-L 5M - 2009 Honda Accord

I have had this car since Oct 2011 and 37K miles. It just turned 60K. It has been a great car with no issues. I do mostly highway driving with 35mpg as my best. Driving position is excellent. The seat comfort is not the best although the leather has less lower back seat bulge than cloth seat. Road/tire noise is excessive. For now, I blame it on original Michelin tires until I replace them in the next few months. I also bought a 2009 Mercedes E350 RWD with Sport/AMG package last summer. Driving these two cars back to back, Accord feels thin with high road noise. The E350 feels solid, smooth, and quiet. If I am pressed to keep one,I will keep the Accord for its simplicity and reliability.

Purchased the car in Nov 2010 with 37K miles. It currently has 54K miles. It looks and drives great. It consistently gets 34-36 mpg on highway driving at 70mph. The feel and ride are great. Road noise is excessive and unacceptable. I just bought a 2009 Mercedes RWD E350 Sport. The road noise between these two is like night and day. I have had zero issues with my Accord. No rattles and squeaks that some complain about. I do have the power steering whine that even at 40K mile, I was told it was not covered. It costs $500 to replace the power steering pump. The Michelin tires are original and have worn well and evenly. I will keep the Accords for several years to come.

  • VCM (variable cylinder managment) misfire, engine light flashing - 2009 Honda Accord
    By -

Im posting this review for those who had problems with the VCM/engine misfire. It happened to us last week. Without a warning the car started stuttering and the flashing engine light came on. It sounded to me like a timing/sparkplugs problem. We found some scary info about class action suit against Honda due to the engine design problem. Took it to Honda dealer. They replaced 4 out of 6 sparkplugs and updated the car software. I talked to the shop foreman (yes, you have to insist on it, though the reception girl will first tell you that mechanics dont talk to customers, WHY??). This is what the foreman told me:

  • Best Car Ive ever had - 2009 Honda Accord

I bought my 2009 Honda Accord EX-L 3.5 L with Navigation new from the dealer in 2008. I now have 93,xxx miles on it with no problem. I changed the oil every 6k mile and thats it! Dealer sold me 4 oild chnage for $100. That is it. Oh, I almost forget. After 6000 miles, the dealer replaced the rear breaks at no charge to me. Buy it, drive it and enjoy it. It is a most dependable car Ive had.

  • An Aston Martin it isnt, but its pretty damn OK - 2009 Honda Accord
    By -

I bought it with 48k and now it has 68k. I have all service records, its been cared for properly. Nothing has gone wrong with this car! Its a V6 sedan and its fast! It has about the slickest engine and transmission combination Ive ever driven. Except for some body roll, the handling qualities are great. The steering is agile and its goes exactly where you nudge it. Fine car.

  • Quality, Quality, Reliability - 2009 Honda Accord

It is true that most people who write reviews are the ones with problems, and they want/need to vent. Happy customers just enjoy their purchases. But still, reading some of the low reviews here makes you wonder: are those people for real? In my experience Honda is nothing but quality, quality and reliability. My wife and I bought our 2009 EX-L V6 accord with 44000 miles on it. The car drove like new from the dealer, and drives beautifully now, almost a year later. Everything works perfect, the doors close with a nice thud, the engine is smooth like butter. Steering is sooo precise, every switch and control operates with assurance. Seats are comfortable and we have no problem with brakes.

  • BEST HONDA I EVER OWNED - 2009 Honda Accord
    By -

Sounds like some people bought cars made on a Monday or Friday. My 09 EXL is the best Honda yet, and I have owned them since 1988. No problems, looks like a BMW at a third of the cost! Great job Honda.

  • BMW like handling in a Honda! - 2009 Honda Accord
    By -

I drove my friends 2009 Honda Accord LX on a 250 mile road trip and I feel that I got a better enough feel of this car to write a review. At highway speeds the Accord has road noise and some wind noise and ride quality is not that good. The 4 cyl engine is noisy also vibrates alot at idle. This 8th generation Accord has a cheaper feeling interior as well. The car has extraordinary handling characteristics it tracks like a locomotive and it feels very stable at triple digit speeds. Power from engine was good too. The Accord has 50,000 miles and it never caused a single problem so I recommend this car to someone looking for a reliable sedan with sporty driving characteristics
