Got my Explorer used off of a lease, now have 175,000 miles on it, itll go another 25,000 without too much trouble. I think Ford got this one right, its a toss up between buying a new one and rebuilding this one!

Purchased used with 87,000 miles on it. Ive recorded 91,000 miles over the past 3 years. I now have a total of 178,000. No repairs to the motor and transmission. Had to replace the radiator.I made the decision to convert the air conditioner for better cooling Both cost a total of $675.00. Overall, Im pleased with its performance.

I have had explorer 10 years this month. Im turning 200k this month and have not had to do anything but standard maintenance. However, Im starting to hear some internal engine noise (lifter?) Primarly used for family travel. Started using a quart of oil every 1200 miles at about 180k. Changed oil every 3000, but never.. never gave tune-up. It was still getting 15 - 17 MPG!.

  • Even now she still surprises me! - 1993 Ford Explorer

With over 168,000 miles on the original transmission and engine this truck continues to amaze us. Though 130k miles is freeway commuter trips and the remaining city driving, this truck has yet to give us any major repair bills (knock on wood). The leather was well worn, so I installed beautiful Wet Okole seat covers and she looks new again! Well done Ford! Look at how many of the pre-1995 Explorers are still on the road next tiem youre on the interstate, it will surprise you.

When I bought my Explorer I loved it. Last year my transmission started to go out and its been downhill since. I have talked to a lot of Explorer owners and found that they also have had to replace their transmission for the same model.

  • What a great ride - 1993 Ford Explorer

I live in Northern BC Canada and we have quite cold winters here where temps reach -40c. This vehicle had started great and drives very well in the snow and ice. Its too bad this truck does not have a little more power. Still is great for long drives and seats 2 adults and three young kids quite comfortably. Corrosion protection is awesome and touch button 4wd works great. AC and heater both crank and sound system is excellent

I really liked my explorer it was fun to drive summer and winter. With the 4whl drive on in the winter i could navigate most city streets even in the worst weather.

  • TRANSMISSION - 1993 Ford Explorer

We bought the car new, off the lot, and have had normal use and maintenance on the vehicle. No off roading, or extreme towing. Yet there have had 2 bouts of transmission service. The first at just over 90,000 miles on the odometer and the second job within 2 years and 20,000 added miles. The "Ford tuff truck" is the image of the older truck chaise Explorer that could be used both for tough utility purposes as well as a passanger vehicle. Yet the power train did not last with basic to & from work city style driving.
